29 weeks pregnant at my wedding

Hi all, well I’m gonna be 29 weeks pregnant at my wedding! Our wedding was originally booked for nov 23rd, but I would have been a Few weeks away from giving birth! I’m due dec 26. We wanted it in the summer but my partners paperwork won’t be back in time for it. So we settled for october. My question is has anyone got married when being this pregnant? When I went dress shopping I was not pregnant but I did ask the lady if I had a bump woukd I still be able to wear this dress and she seemed very confident in saying yes I 100% will be as something to do where it sits is perfect for a bump and also it’s corset so can go up or down a few sizes. It’s not a big wedding, 18 people in a register office then a sit down meal, just something small and intimate, I don’t want to move the wedding till after baby is here so I have no choice lol. Am I crazy? I’ll attach a pic of my dress now too so you can see if you think it’ll fit obviously I don’t know how big I’m gonna get though as I’m only 6 weeks now!

great news, the shops said as a gesture of good will they will exchange my dress for me! Can I please have reccomendations of dresses from wed2b? I’m clueless! Thanks everyone for your lovely comments about my dress! I’ll be really sad to say goodbye to it! I honestly didn’t think I’d get pregnant so soon!!! Lol 🫣

This is excellent news OP! And £900 to spend on a beautiful floaty dress should be a really good amount to find the perfect dress. I’d just go empire line like the first pic above from a PP. To be really honest, I’d go in with a clear picture of what you want and the most candid friend you have as I’d be dubious about their advice after recommending the last one. Style is beautiful but not practical for a heavily pregnant bride. And even if something can be done in alterations, it’s best to have someone who will advise about what will make you feel good and comfortable too. Good luck! How exciting!

Meg1313 · 04/05/2023 16:22

@DollyP88 I’m really happy they’re doing this! Tbh I really don’t like the dress in the picture on this thread, it’s not me at all, I don’t know what else I’d want. I always wanted a 50’s wedding dress :( I’ll probably have around £700 to spend as il be keeping my veil, jacket and headband. It’s only a register office wedding of 18 people and a sit down meal which is why I didn’t want a big ball gown dress, ahh something else to stress about lol

What about this one and have it altered to tea length for a more 50s style?

It’s in the maternity section on the website despite the model not looking at all pregnant

changedforthispostt · 04/05/2023 16:28

Hi op, I'm sorry but that dress will come down to far on your bump. I was 28 weeks at my wedding, have attached pics so you can see how the dress will fall! I had an empire and the seamstress was amazing, she made it an empire line and added a corset into the back (with ribbons)

Meg1313 · 04/05/2023 16:30

@Hazelnuttella thats one is pretty I just don’t like the lace on it 🫣 all of the maternity dresses on there don’t have pregnant brides. It looks like they’ve just put all their a line dresses in that section?

You can see from the first pic how much bigger my bump got in 3 days from final fitting to the day !

Meg1313 · 04/05/2023 16:37

@changedforthispostt oh my gosh yeah! God knows what I’m gonna do. I’m just looking at dresses now and I don’t LOVE them like I love mine lol, I’ll just have to get over it, not sure if any of these would work. But again I don’t like them that much 😂 I’ll just be settling

Still a good amount to spend! Ah, that’s fair enough if empire or A line isn’t your thing. They’ve probably got loads like that though in their maternity section as your bump will more than likely literally be right under your breasts by the third trimester (and the smallest part of your midriff runs where the bottom of your bra sits essentially) so I can see why it’s a popular and flattering choice.

Seamstress here!

Congratulations OP first and foremost. For your engagement and your baby.

Personally, if you came to me with this dress, I'd say change it. Obviously it's hard to tell without seeing the inside boning and structure of the dress. The saleswoman is right that corsets have more movement but this applies more to general weight gain and loss, as corsets as we all know cinch your waist in. Something that cannot be done safely and professionally if you're pregnant. Certainly not at 29 weeks pregnant. What can happen is instead of the corset going up in a V shape, depending on how you carry it will go up in more of a 0 shape or a U shape. Wider where you're carrying IYSWIM instead of that normal V corset shape.

I would change it. Sorry OP. Unless you carry teeny tiny, I don't think it's going to work and at the very least, you'll be really uncomfortable. Your best bet is to exchange and look for an empire dress, a maxi type dress or something with a much higher waist band.

What can also happen with your type of dress from a front / side point or view, when the corset is pulled tight from where the boning looks to be on that dress, it will pull in at certain points and not the others, so where the dress would naturally pull in on a non-pregnant woman, it won't on a pregnant woman and may try to compensate for this and pull in at the wrong places making it look a bit lop sided. It's really hard to explain.

Change the dress OP. It's your best bet. If someone came to me with this dress at 29 weeks pregnant I probably wouldn't even attempt it.

I've attached a picture of the type of dress that really suits pregnancy. But obviously it won't be your dream dress and different styles suit different people.

@doingitforthegram hello! Thank you so much for your reply!! This is a really good POV from a professional so thank you. I have since messaged them and they do still think it will be okay but I can exchange it. I’m just waiting to see if I can wait till I start to get a bump before I change it as I don’t want to go now with no bump, then it doesn’t fit me again once bump starts to grow! If I can keep this a bit longer just to see and hold onto hope then I will lol

I wore a dress similar to this on my wedding day at 13 weeks and it was heavy, restrictive and the bones dug into my body.
My boobs got huge and were squished in
It was off by 7pm and I changed into a soft draped fabric just from the high street and it was bliss!
I was very very bloated at 13 weeks and obviously had bought my dress a year in advance but that far on and that much structure I think you will be in physical pain ☹️

Mrsstart · 05/05/2023 00:09

@Meg1313
Look how much the bones are showing due to the fabric being pushed to the maximum x

Whyisitsosohard · 05/05/2023 03:37

I was 37 weeks thanks to covid delays. We actually had such a nice small wedding with just witnesses and a lovely lunch and then home to watch the football. Zero stress. I wore a size 16 empire style dress from asos. Loved it and still like the photos but I did only put 8kg on during the pregnancy. Much more and I would've struggled with a waisted dress.

My bump started right under my boobs so even that one looks too low waisted to me. I'm 5'3" though so maybe it would be fine on someone taller 🙂

buckingmad · 05/05/2023 05:45

I got married at 34 weeks. From the get go my bump started right at my boobs so I got something that was floaty from the bust down.

OP in the nicest possible way, if you going to be 29 weeks pregnant at your wedding, you are going to have to settle. You are also unlikely to be able to dance till or have a drink, which most people do on their wedding days.

As I see it you have 3 choices:

  1. Go ahead with the wedding party in the next few weeks and then just get married quietly when your DP's paperwork comes through
  2. Book it for a year's time and wear the dress (maybe again having a quiet registery office job prior to the birth)
  3. Sell the dress and hold onto your cash until as close to the wedding as possible, as much can change between now and then both in terms of body shape but also obstetric complications.

That third one (Lilah) is stunning

spottysnail · 05/05/2023 08:46

I like the ones you just posted OP. The only thing I would say is that when I was heavily pregnant I only wanted to wear dresses which emphasised the band area under the bust as opposed to those dresses which sit on the waist. As your rib cage/waistline expands quite a bit. I found dresses that stopped at the waist either did not fit or didn't look right.

You’ve articulated this well.

I had the same problem with my bump which started right below my breasts from second trimester, even though I was carrying low according to everyone. I remember trying to squeeze into a non-maternity dress for a Christening, with a waistband that fell on the actual waist. It wasn’t possible as my bump was hard all over in the third trimester. (I also got Braxton Hicks which caused even more of this tightening and hardening of my uterus.) I didn’t have any of the squishiness where you can still suck it in (uncomfortably!) during early pregnancy.

This caused the normal waistband to ride up and sit in the narrowest part under my breasts. So then there was too much fabric on my breasts so it hung down droopily. The ribbon style waistband was only a few centimetres wide so just looked bad/unflattering although I could still fit in it technically - if in the wrong place where my bra band was. A thicker decorative waistband though may not have so much give in it, esp if embellished.

Hey everyone! Luckily the shop said they will exchange! I’m looking at ones like this!!

https://www.wed2b.com/iona

https://www.wed2b.com/amaya

https://www.wed2b.com/lilah

I like Iona best out of these - it's lovely and would work well with a bump I think.

DPotter · 05/05/2023 12:11

They are lovely dresses and more floating than your current dress but they all still have a waisted design. I'm sorry but I think you will need to think empire line - no waist at all because well to be honest at 29 weeks you won't have a waist. As a pp said you might get a waisted one to fit at the waist but then there'll be too much fabric around the bust which will fall badly. Oh and you will need to wear a bra - don't care what the shop staff will try and tell you about internal support - you will need a good supportive bra. For both comfort and fit.
