Hello everyone, I am 39+ 3 and my waters spectacularly went on the bathroom floor this morning at 7:40, no pain or contractions yet.

Just got home from the hospital, everything is fine and have been booked in for an induction first thing tomorrow if things don't naturally get moving today/tonight.

Does anyone have any experience of things progressing naturally after waters breaking was the first sign of labour? I really don't fancy an induction, but what will be will be I guess ☺️

How exciting, good luck OP!

My waters broke at 39+5 and contractions started an hour or so later. DS then took a further 48 hours to arrive, but hopefully you will be quicker!

MrsBlondie · 28/04/2023 11:45

Yes my waters broke at 38 weeks. Nothing for a good several hours then labour started and was done in 2 hours.
Good luck.

rebecca100 · 28/04/2023 12:08

@TokyoSushi @MrsBlondie ahhh thank you both for the replies and your experiences, I'm hoping baby will get the show on the road soon as we are desperate to meet him ☺️

If you have a birthing ball bounce on it for as long as you can while watching your favourite happy/cosy TV.

That sounds like a plan, although I can't get housework out of my mind right now 🤣🤣

Keep moving about / walking around etc and hopefully things will kick off soon! Good luck!
And... there are worse places for waters to go so well done on the bathroom floor although I'm sure there was a lot of splashing 😂

TokyoSushi · 28/04/2023 12:11

If you've no pain for now, I know it's exciting, but try to rest as much as you possibly can, a gentle walk/birth ball will also help, but don't tire yourself out!

rebecca100 · 28/04/2023 12:12

Thank you everyone, so reassuring 💕

It was quite something 🤣 exactly how it happens in the soaps and films!

How exciting! 30 years ago my waters went at 7.30am, like you i was checked and sent home. Contractions started about 5pm and baby arrived at 9pm. Second baby though!
Good luck, hope you are cuddling your baby very soon 💕

Seesawmarjorydaw · 28/04/2023 12:17

For my births that progressed well, I just walked around and around the block - dull as anything but I didn’t want to get too far away.

Seesawmarjorydaw · 28/04/2023 12:17

Good luck!!

MisanthropicMe · 28/04/2023 12:17

My waters went Hollywood style too OP but contractions started within a few minutes for me. Hopefully things kick off soon for you. Get as much rest as you can in the meantime x

x88mph · 28/04/2023 12:26

I also had the spectacular breaking of waters in the bathroom. It was another 24 hours before contractions started in earnest. In the meantime I went to the hairdressers as I’d planned for that day then walked to Asda. The hairdresser wasn’t impressed when I told her my waters had already broken, i think she was scared of a TV speed birth in the salon.
Good luck OP.

My waters went spontaneously and contractions started within an hour as I was in the shower getting ready to go to the hospital. Good luck, very soon you will be holding your baby!

allgoodthings84 · 28/04/2023 13:16

My waters broke at 41 weeks exactly around 7am (the hospital asked me if I had just wet myself but I knew it was waters as it didn’t stop 😂) and I was checked at hospital for confirmation then booked in for an induction the following day. I was in obvious natural labour around 2 hours before my induction was booked for. It wasn’t a natural birth unfortunately in the end but was nothing to do with my waters breaking the day before.

YorkshireTeaCup · 28/04/2023 13:34

Oooh good luck! My waters broke around 6am one morning at 37+6 in a massive dramatic gush in the loo. Had an awkward taxi ride to the hospital sat on my waterproof coat so i wouldn't damage the taxi 🤣

Unlike you, i was admitted due to BP but by 10pm that night contractions had started and DD born at lunchtime the next day!

Get bouncing on a ball to get things moving!

MaverickSnoopy · 28/04/2023 13:42

I only had one labour where my waters went spontaneously, I was quite disappointed that was it. They went when I was in bed and in dribbles. Contractions started within 20 mins. Long labour though.

Keep moving. Housework is great for getting things going, especially scrubbing the skirting boards. Good luck!

PinkPlantCase · 28/04/2023 13:46

Relax 😊

Watch a film (a nice one) move around, make a cake.

Eat decent meals if you feel up to it! You’ll need plenty of energy.

Sleep would be another suggestion.

Also if it gets to tomorrow and you don’t want the induction you don’t have to agree to it. You could have the option of waiting a bit longer.

fairtrauchled · 28/04/2023 13:55

My waters broke in the bathroom at stupid o' clock in the morning. I wasn't have any contractions or pain so I went back to bed and phoned the maternity unit. They told me to come in so they could examine me,confirmed I wasn't in labour and booked me in for an induction 48 hrs later. On the morning of induction I was 4cm dilated when I was examined but still no contractions or pain.By the time I got to the labour ward I was 8cm dilated. I only felt contractions when I actually need to push DC out.Fingers cross you go into labour naturally.

rebecca100 · 28/04/2023 13:56

Thank you to everyone who's taken the time to reply, give such good advice and share stories. Things are definitely cranking up and so I am hopeful this will be done naturally 💕

I should add that my previous post was with DC2.
With DC1 my waters broke(flooded the bed) and DC was born 2 hrs later.I was fully dilated by the time I got to the labour ward and was basically told to start pushing. No time for pain relief

I don't have any further advice as you've already had lots. I just wanted to say Good Luck and I hope you've got your little one in your arms soon.
