Where to breastfeed at night?

My husband and I are wanting to keep the spare room with the bed in for him to go in if he needs a proper night sleep. But I’m now wondering if that’s a good idea (a cot / chair can’t fit in with it)?

where do you breastfeed / feed the baby at nighttime do you do it in a chair in the nursery?

I had the big bed to myself and co slept. Means I usually got a decent night's sleep.

I’ve always fed in our bed. When our baby was tiny, he was in a SnuzPod next to us. Now he’s older, but still in our room.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 23/04/2023 21:28

Lie down in my bed to feed

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 23/04/2023 21:31

In bed, lie down or sitting up. DH slept in spare room, baby in next to me with me for the first 6 months. Then in cot.

Nachobowls · 23/04/2023 21:31

In bed?

Daisywithastory · 23/04/2023 21:32

Is your baby born yet? When my twins were in our bedroom, I fed them in our bed when they woke (admittedly did accidentally fall asleep holding one more often than I should have…). Now they’re in their own room, I have a fold out mattress so I can tandem feed if both wake and Co-sleep if I can’t get them back in their cots.

DustyLee123 · 23/04/2023 21:32

In bed.

Lkgcsr · 23/04/2023 21:32

First baby I fed in a chair in nursery/spare room and second time we had a double bed in spare room/baby’s room and I slept in there and fed in bed. Much preferred feeding in bed and much easier to transfer rather than carry a sleeping baby to the next room

justanotherdrama · 23/04/2023 21:33

I alway fed my kids in a next to me or I sat up in my own bed
I wouldn't have gone into a spare room to sit on a chair especially if my partner was sleeping in there that seems a bit of a strange idea...

We never did the whole spare room thing tho my partner was always with me and he'd often get me a drink/midnight snack when I was feeding I had a really small nightlight half the time he never stirred!

bravotango · 23/04/2023 21:33

Tried doing it in the chair for a bit, now exclusively cosleep (DH has a single mattress on the floor) and feed lying down. DS is 5 months and I barely wake up now to feed Grin

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 23/04/2023 21:33

I always just sat in bed. The baby slept in a crib next to me so I just lifted them out and sat or lay in bed to feed.

BridieConvert · 23/04/2023 21:35

When baby was still in our room, I fed in bed. Now she's sleeping in her cot in her own room I use the chair in there. Didn't have any space for the chair with baby #1 so I am absolutely loving it this time round!

PaigeMatthews · 23/04/2023 21:35

In bed.

Catlikereactions · 23/04/2023 21:35

Thanks helpful! The baby isn’t here but watching a YouTube video where the baby’s in a snuzpod but they went into a separate room to feed the baby at night and we were questioning

I sit up in bed or lie in the recovery position and feed that way

gogohmm · 23/04/2023 21:37

I fed mine lying down in bed (and fell asleep usually) ended up cosleeping after a couple of weeks.

snoopyscarpy · 23/04/2023 21:39

In our bed. Still do 21m on! Co sleeping and breastfeeding go hand in hand

maryberryslayers · 23/04/2023 21:43

In bed! Baby in next to me, reach over pop on boob, feed, pop back, both get off to sleep easily.

I had the big bed to myself and co slept. Means I usually got a decent night's sleep.

This is what I did until latest DD was about 7mo and went into her own cot and had cut down to one feed overnight, and same with older DD (although for longer with her). We all got plenty of sleep this way. Now (10mo) I have a chair in her room that I feed her in, it's usually only about three minutes once a night as she just needs a little snack to settle her off again. If you're doing a lot of night feeds I would do them in bed for sure, and just be mindful of safe sleeping positioning in case you fall asleep.

OnMyWayToSenility · 23/04/2023 21:47

I bought a nice big arm chair for the living room , a cuddler. Had a nice big pillow with extra blanket if o felt cold and made sure I had water, snacks and the remote nearby.
Best for everyone. Nice quiet could watch tv and just relax.
I found bf in bed uncomfortable as I'd start sliding down into my bed and felt sleepy.

Glitterstars · 23/04/2023 21:50

We co sleep and feed in bed, baby just feeds and then goes back to sleep I think if I took him to another room it would make him more awake .

HamBone · 23/04/2023 21:51

You’ll figure out what works for you, OP, but I personally preferred to go into another room. My two slept in a bassinet next to our bed and as I’m a lighter sleeper than DH, I’d hear them stirring before they fully awoke, would pick them up and take them either to the rocking chair in the nursery or downstairs to the sofa. We also had a travel cot downstairs if we decided to stay down there.

I really enjoyed that one-to-one time with them when everyone else was asleep, it felt as if we were in our own little bubble. ❤️ I still think about it sometimes even though they’re teenagers now!

I was lucky though as mine only woke a couple of times in the night-it might have been differently if they woke frequently.

USaYwHatNow · 23/04/2023 21:52

Whilst baby was still in our room, I would BF bed. I would get baby from the crib, feed in bed, and then pass to my husband to burp/change if needed. Then he'd be rocked back to sleep by either of us. In the early earlyyyy days, I preferred feeding him in bed as I could stick the TV on if I wanted to.

Baby is 8 months old now, and since he's been in his old room I've got a comfy, low backed, squishy chair that I use, along with a feeding pillow which is in the nursery.

Chocchops72 · 23/04/2023 21:53

In bed. We had a 180cm wide bed, plenty of room for me and baby, and DH too.

the thought of actually getting out of bed at night to feed a baby😱

GloomySkies · 23/04/2023 21:53

I started off sitting up,.sometimes going to another room, sometimes in bed, but I found that I was so exhausted I literally couldn't stay awake some times (DC1 was.an utterly dreadful sleeper) so I learned to feed lying down.
