Does anyone else get pregnant SO easily?

A strange one but looking to hear similar experiences. Has anyone else have kids already yet then go on to get pregnant so so easily despite contraception? I don’t mean to offend anyone that may feel this is the complete opposite of those who have issues falling pregnant but I am just wondering if anyone has experiences of just falling pregnant whilst on birth control, safe sex, etc. I know you’re most fertile after a pregnancy/birth. I just can’t understand at times why birth control doesn’t seem to work for me. I love my babies, my kids are everything and in no way is this a complaint. I just sometimes feel that I am beyond fertile but I’m not ready to make somewhat an irreversible choice that will mean I cannot have anymore kids. Despite the surprises of being pregnant what feels like every year…

again, not a complaint! Pregnancy is a gift and I’m super grateful everything works for me but I am just wondering if my super power is being able to conceive so well or if this is normal for a lot?

There is an X% of getting pregnant each time you have sex at your fertile period. You timed it well and your body did as it should.,,,

Babyroobs · 11/04/2023 21:01

We had great problems having our first and were told we would need IVF etc but then got pregnant naturally. We thought it would take ages again but literally got pregnant first time without contraception with ds2. Third and fourth babies were unplanned ! Dh got the snip very soon after.

Coffeaddict · 11/04/2023 21:04

First pregnancy we were discussing when to start trying. One night we didn't put on a condom and my oldest was conceived. Dito on my second. DP vasectomy is booked for 2 weeks time to make sure there won't be another.

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2023 21:11

My friend struggled for ten years. Turned out her husband had a very low sperm count. Just as she was starting the shots for IVF she got pregnant. Had the baby and boom got pregnant within a year. Gave birth then boom got pregnant four months later.
It happens.
What birth control are you using?

Mossstitch · 11/04/2023 21:19

Yes, first time didn't even have full penetrative sex and was still basically a virgin. Third was a one off at what should have been 'safe period' as in just as period finished. Only one that took till second month was one actually trying for 🙄all a blessing and very much wanted and loved😍

Spent years ttc with EXH and nothing, not so much as a sniff of a pregnancy despite doing all the right things / timing / cycle tracking etc.

Eventually split up and I went on to meet my DH, first time we had unprotected sex on purpose I fell pregnant.
The only time we had risky timed sex when I was breastfeeding I fell pregnant again.
Happened for a third time a few years later too, I had miscalculated my cycle, had sex too close to my fertile window, took the morning after pill within 12 hours, still ended up pregnant.

So I don’t necessarily get pregnant easily full stop but I am highly compatible with my DH - or he just has incredible sperm.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 11/04/2023 21:35

Loads of people - think of all the millions of unplanned babies in the world, and those that are aborted on top of it. It’s not an unusual predicament at all.

Or your XH was infertile?

Mintykat · 11/04/2023 21:36

These instances are seven years apart but I've fallen pregnant on both the pill (taken correctly) and an IUD that was in the correct place and had another two years left of usage supposedly. Sadly the IUD pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage.

Finding out about these pregnancies was very traumatic, especially with my first. He was conceived just during the breakdown of a long term relationship and due the same month I was supposed to finish my post grad. I love my son to pieces but it took a couple of years and counselling to come to terms with being a Mum.

Currently 14 weeks, immediately pregnant the cycle following the miscarriage as we had planned to try towards the end of this year - so brought it forward. Having that control in 'deciding' to conceive for this current pregnancy has been such a relief and important for my mental health.

I now feel like I can't trust any contraceptive options though.
My Partner is going to be having a vasectomy very quickly after baby arrives, possibly exploring private yearly testing for peace of mind!

RandomMess · 11/04/2023 21:39

Yes I seem to be very fertile. Ended up sterilised after trying every contraception going.

SarahAndQuack · 11/04/2023 21:41

Are you sure you are genuinely using birth control correctly (and having properly safe sex?). My understanding is that people often don't - human error is the biggest reason for contraception failure. Eg., you get people who're on the pill and don't realise that if you don't take it at the same time each day, is is not so effective.

I also wonder if, given you're happy about your lovely babies, you're perhaps just less worried? Could it be your subconscious has prompted you to think 'ooh, actually, another baby would be nice?' and you've been a bit slapdash with the contraception? I know several couples like that - they've all said 'ooh, we're definitely waiting until it's sensible,' but mysteriously they've 'happened' to become pregnant! Grin

If you are happy, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wishona · 11/04/2023 21:42

I got pregnant straight away every time.
DC2 was on day 7, but that was on purpose as I had noticed fertile signs.

I haven’t had any accidental pregnancies though, so I think I’m proof contraception works well usually.

Wishona · 11/04/2023 21:44

But also sorry for those who it hasn’t worked for, that must be really stressful.

JustDudeIt · 11/04/2023 21:44

I think probably a lot of people are ‘very fertile’ ie. have no issues conceiving, but it’s just not something that comes up in conversation, is it?

I conceived three times on the first month of trying for my DC. I’ve also had an accident when a condom split, I took the MAP and was still pregnant.

TinaTotal · 11/04/2023 22:06

I fall pregnant very easily. But maybe that's normal? Last baby conceived aged 42 first month trying. Have been sterilised now but partly thinking I'll still get pregnant! Avoiding sex right now. Come on menopause.

RandomMess · 11/04/2023 22:12

For some people hormonal contraception just doesn't work 🤷🏽‍♀️

CornishGem1975 · 11/04/2023 22:14

I've fallen pregnant four times very easily. First was completely accidental (first time I had sex Blush) and the other times we're planned but conceived each time in the first month of trying.

Mangomingo · 11/04/2023 22:16

Yes my lovely friend is just always getting pregnant. She EBFs, uses pill, has tried coil, but pretty much every time she has sex she gets pregnant. 8 so far. Her and DH haven’t made love since her 2 year old was born.

123DDE · 11/04/2023 22:16

@mondaytosunday I fell pregnant whilst on the pill (guilty of probably missing a day here and there so I did take the MAP too as the timing wasn’t right for many of reasons) but it sadly ended in a miscarriage (which I’ve had a few of too) I’ve also fallen pregnant on the implant which was a huge surprise. I’m pregnant again despite taking the pill whilst waiting for my appointment to have the implant put back in again. Every time been happy though just thought about it this time a lot more that I seem to conceive really quickly and easily. We are obviously very compatible re fertility.

@SarahAndQuack Thank you! I’ve never looked at it like that before, you’re so right & I think sometimes we can be guilty of just going with it and having a if it happens it happens kinda view.

I just feel I’m so fertile and I really have no issues falling pregnant, which is amazing of course, maybe I just worry subconsciously nothing will work for me when we’re trying to really protect. I would like to know there’s something out there that completely agrees with me and provides the protection that you’re meant to have by taking birth control. Maybe we could have a conversation in the future about a vasectomy.

Having said all that, I think I was just hopeful to hear others experiences in this to provide some assurance that it happens a lot more often than I may think.

My kids are all healthy and happy, we’re extremely blessed and very excited for another one to add to our team 🥰

I’ve been pregnant 7 times, have two children. We were ttc for years and had multiple losses so I wasn’t conceiving on contraception but I did conceive often. Last time, and it did stick with the meds that worked with the previous baby, was first cycle and I’m pretty old.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/04/2023 22:17

How many children do you have OP?

123DDE · 11/04/2023 22:18

@RandomMess absolutely! I feel this is me and I have no problem with that, sometimes it’s more just the worry of the future and needing the reassurance that something will work. Again, maybe a vasectomy is a conversation we need to have

Previously I'd have argued that using protection correctly will definitely prevent you from surprise pregnancies.

I've been with my partner nearly 15 years and never had a unplanned pregnancy. 10 years of that has just been using condoms as most contraception doesn't agree with me.

I'm now 4 weeks pregnant. 🙄
Condom used properly. In date etc. No split from what we noticed (ie it was full when disposed of) yet here we are...

100% agree some people are just super fertile, or very lucky/unlucky.

SleepHygieneHelp · 11/04/2023 22:20

We don't have issues getting pregnant. As soon as we've said we wanted to try for a baby I've gotten pregnant the first month. Staying pregnant however is another thing entirely 😭

RandomMess · 11/04/2023 22:12

For some people hormonal contraception just doesn't work 🤷🏽‍♀️

The safest method by far is the hormonal implant (wonder why... ).
It removes the human error and the "doesn't work" failure is down to 0.05% and even that is likely down to a faulty implant/insertion rather than something unusual about the body it's in.
