Hi i'm 23 weeks pregnant and over the past few days baby hasn't been moving that much at all.
when usually he is really active, i also am having period like cramps not sharp pains but a dull ache, any ideas as to what it could be?

The pains might just be your ligaments stretching. Can you feel the baby moving today? Is it just less then normal?

AllIWantForXmasisPoo · 06/12/2004 14:36

Maybe you have been extra busy these last few days and just haven't noticed. Lie down quietly for a bit and concentrate, or in the bath so you can see the ripples! I was worried in my pregnancy, so as I was up at the hospital anyway for a breastfeeding workshop, I popped into the unit and they hooked me up to a monitor for 30 mins. Needles to say the little blighter immediately went bezerk and the machine was beeping away like mad! Always best to call them though - they are alwys more than happy to have a listen. Or how about calling the midwife - you should have her number on the front of your green notes.HTH.

If you feel nothing at all.

Rest in evening see if you feel something. If not go to hospital, they will do a quick scan. You will probably have to wait a couple of hours (baby usually starts moving while you wait) but it will put your mind at rest and you get another piccy of your baby.

They will be happy to see you. You would kick yourself if you didn't. It happened to me too.

If it is moving a bit though I wouldn't worry to much.

Gem1355 · 06/12/2004 14:45

I haven't felt the baby move today, i've had a long soak in the bath as i've got terrible back ache and he didn't move then, i'm seeing the dr today about my back so would she suggest i go to the hospital, i'm not sure?

OP posts:
Dophus · 06/12/2004 16:14

I had lots fo days in the second timester whre I wouldn't feel the baby move. I would just reach the point where I would give it an hour before I'd go to the hospital. It was only at that moment I'd get the kick I wanted.

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 06/12/2004 16:24

Oh poor you, it's worrying isn't it?

I used to be obsessive about how many kicks and movments i was getting, and there was a couple of times in my second trimester that i went shooting up to the maternity unit becuase dd hadn't moved for half a day or so. I, and she, was always fine. I'm sure you and your little one will be okay.
Also, are you active in the day? i had a job where i was rushing around a lot, and my midwife pointed out that maybe i wasn't feeling as much because i was running around a lot. When i got home and sat down for an hour or so, the movement would usualy start again.
If i were you, i'd call the maternity unit and tell them the same thing you've posted. They'll probably ask you to go to be on the safe side.

Best of luck Sweetie, i'm sure you'll both be absolutly fine.

Well been to the DR and she signed me off for a week and i have to see a physiotherapist. told her baby hadn't moved so she felt my tummy and we listened to the heartbeat and was nice and strong, she said baby probably got in a nice comfy position and didn't want to move!
But he is moving around abit now!

Gem - had a panick with ds in 3rd trimester as I suddenly couldn't really feel him move for 3 days, after usually having had the bejesus kicked out of me. So they called me in for a trace... as one would imagine whilst I was on the trace he was so active that they had to leave me on the monitor for most of the morning to establish a baseline! Grin
I had just overdone it with working full time, running the house and after DD ... was 'ordered' to take it easy et voila... master footballer was back Smile

Good luck and hope 'bump' will keep active

Gem1355 · 06/12/2004 19:29

Well i have to relax because of my back this week, but i know i'll won't sit down much!
but baby is really active and is kicking the hell out of me now!!!

This is my first baby so it's really odd, especially as it's just me and i dn't have baby's dad to panic to, so it was pretty scary.

OP posts:
MrsBigDrumsADrumming · 06/12/2004 19:40

well you got us at mn now if you panick Smile

Gem1355 · 06/12/2004 19:43

Thank you!!

I'm not prepared or anything!!

OP posts:
MrsBigDrumsADrumming · 06/12/2004 19:57

Just had child no. 2 and still not prepared for anything Grin
So chin up you'll be fine

Gem1355 · 06/12/2004 20:00

AllIWantForXmasisPoo · 06/12/2004 20:18

So glad to hear that all is well. Enjoy the week off, and order everything you need off the internet. Shops at Xmas are not for those of you with bumps!

FrostyTheSurfMum · 06/12/2004 21:02

So pleased everything was OK. I had a scare like this too, but as soon as I got in the car to drive to the hospital for monitoring the baby did the can-can.

Afterwards, my midwife advised me that drinking an ice cold drink would induce movements. If there were none after lying down for 20 mins to go to the hospital.

Gem1355 · 07/12/2004 09:28

Hi well baby hasn't stopped moving all nite!

Good news Gem! Glad you're both okay.

Now rest up Grin

Flumberrysauce · 07/12/2004 16:11

Glad to hear all ok.

Hope you find mumsnet a real help because you haven't got a dp to bounce your concerns off. It is a difficult time because your emotions run very high too, its difficult to get things into perspective sometimes.

Gem1355 · 07/12/2004 19:53

I'm so happy baby is really on the move today, i think might be a boy as been watching football and he is kicking the hell out of me!!!!

Also was wondering even tho i ave to see a physiotherapist, would it be a good idea to go to something like aqua natal?

OP posts:
moondog · 07/12/2004 19:59

Yes, do the Aquanatal, see the physio, in short get as much help as possible. If your back is bad now,it may well be worse when the baby comes (as it was for me!)

I loved Aquanatal-in the last 6 weeks it was the only time that I ever really felt relaxed and able to breathe.

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 08/12/2004 12:30

Glad to hear baby is fine Gem. If you ever worry again, try my trick for getting the blighter to move: rest a book on your stomach. That usually works. When it is a bit older, you can prod your side and see it prod back! That is great fun! Enjoy.

Gem1355 · 08/12/2004 14:51

Hello, baby's gone quiet today but have booked into aquanatal classes and looking into pregnancy yoga as well, to help relaxation etc,

Hope everyone is well today.

Gem1355 · 09/12/2004 11:10

HI baby hasn't moved yet today but will keep an eye on it!

OP posts:
ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 10/12/2004 09:58

It occurs to me Gem that when I had my fist baby, there was a kick chart to fill in every day but it only started at 28 weeks. As you are only 32 weeks, maybe you can't expect to feel the baby all day every day yet. I expect it moves a lot when you are asleep.
