"Blue or pink" early blood/sex test - any feedback?

First, to get it off my chest, I hate the name.
Moving past that, they offer appointments for £99 from 6 weeks, to get a blood test to find out the sex and you get the results 48 hours later (blueorpink.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsaTpmdXt_AIVC7TtCh1sqwDZEAMYASAAEgK6JvD_BwE).
Has anyone any experience of using them? It sounds a bit too good to be true.
(BTW I really really don't mind if it's a boy or a girl - I'm just nosy and impatient.)

@Twoinapod
The company I was asking for recommendations for does do the blood samples themselves in Central London on weekends.
@Namechangedforspooky I can't find an NIPT for less than £400, but this is £100, so big difference.

Mine was done for medical reasons, finding out the sex was optional but didn’t cost any more. I wasn’t suggesting getting one just to find out the sex, just saying there is an accurate way to find out before 15 weeks

Pickles91 · 30/01/2023 22:01

If I was going to do it, I would suggest holding out until 9 weeks onwards for the best chance of an accurate result. As a PP has said, it’s a few more weeks before there’s enough foetal DNA in the blood for the test to detect it accurately. Where I am based, they won’t do NIPT til past 9 weeks for that very reason. A couple of friends still got a void result at that stage and had to try again later. It’s all very exciting!

Lanie03 · 24/03/2023 14:33

I booked this test but the at home own this week, did yours go ok? :) I’m guessing you’ve found the gender out via a scan now as well xx

Noodles85 · 25/03/2023 19:24

Can you let us know how long the results took and if they were accurate? I’m currently awaiting mine also.

Whatnow10 · 25/03/2023 19:33

I was thinking about this, I think sneak peek looks better personally. I decided to wait to save forking out when I can wait and find out for free.. Good luck either way

Noodles85 · 25/03/2023 19:40

I also did the sneak peek one last week and got boy, but started getting paranoid about cross-contamination of DNA as I have boys in the house, so I thought I’d get a second opinion from a different company. Although weirdly the blue or pink one does not mention being extra careful about cross-contamination. They both claim 99% accuracy but I thought if the second test came back with the same result then I can be that little more confident about the result.

IVFbeenverylucky · 31/03/2023 20:06

I'm 15 weeks now. I've not actually done it. I had my dating scan at 13 weeks and they said thought a boy. I'm happy to wait to 20 week scan to have it confirmed, but I think it's a boy.

I got the Blue or Pink results back and it said girl! With Sneak Peek boy! Both done at home. So if Blue or Pink didn't detect male DNA like the Sneakpeek one did, either their tests are unreliable or I accidentally contaminated my Sneakpeek blood sample with male DNA. Blue or Pink have offered me another free kit when I told them about the different results so I will try again with them. I've also opted for a in-clinic test with Sneakpeek again. It's cost me a bit of money but whicheer is wrong will offer me a refund.

WhatDoIDoPls · 31/03/2023 20:40

I used an at home Sneak Peek and it was right but found getting the sample messy and unpleasant. Also the risk of contamination with male dna at home so if it comes back boy it could be wrong? I also ended up delaying doing it until after 12 weeks as I didn’t want to know until the pregnancy was more secure when it came to it, and by that point I should have just waited for a scan.

Gingerbreadmama · 31/03/2023 22:08

I did the sneek peek last week at a clinic to avoid contamination, the result came back last night and it says girl. It says 99.9% accurate and that my sample met the minimal requirements to be tested, there was no y chromosome present in the fetal dna in my blood. At the scan place we went to, I asked about the home kits, and they said they're very easy to contaminate, where as a sterile blood draw is reliable. Also I wanted to know, so we could start preparing and buying things, as that's the kind of people who we are, there's nothing wrong with people being excited to know 😂 my test was £179 which included a scan to make sure I was far enough on for the test, the at home are around £89 and I'm glad I took the clinic option!

Noodles85 · 09/04/2023 14:49

Just to update, the second clinical sneak peek test I did confirmed boy, and so did Peekaboo. Sure enough, soon after my second Blue or Pink results came in and they also said Boy, so rectifying their first original result. So from my experience I would not recommend Blue or Pink because they got my results wrong at 7 weeks by saying it was a Girl, then at 8 weeks said Boy.

That’s interesting, looks to me that if when you took the first two tests there possibly wasn’t any male fetal DNA circulating in your blood yet but the sneak peek was possibly contaminated by the males in your home, then by the time you took the other tests that all came back boy the baby’s DNA had begun to circulate in your blood. From what I gather false girl results tend to be due to lack of male DNA circulating because the test was taken too early. Did you have a dating scan prior to the first two tests or did you just use LMP? Have you had a dating scan yet to confirm your dates? Just curious as I did the Sneak peek after an early scan to confirm dates- I was 7+4 and it came back boy- I definitely contaminated it as I was rushing and didn’t clean everything properly, I have 5 males
in my home and my partner walked into the room while testing. I did the blue or pink test a week later and I was extra careful this time and I got a girl result so after four boys I’m desperate for it to be right 😩

Noodles85 · 05/05/2023 20:34

I really hope for you that Blue or Pink is correct. I wish you the very best to have your little girl. For me, gender disappointment was real, and I think next time I will opt for IVF with gender selection

Chocolats · 06/05/2023 09:14

Hi, I hope you get the daughter you're wishing, I have done my blue or pink test on 30th of may I was 8 weeks 4/5 days ga, the results came back as a girl, but I am really confused because I am pretty sure I am having a boy, after digging in their website I couldn't find any real reviews or people's experience like sneak peek and peekaboo. I would like you to give us any update about your experience as I will. Wish you all the best

Chocolats · 08/05/2023 08:45

@Starlordswife do you have any update?

I take it you're not in the UK?

Oh well no need to bite my head off.

Even so, why spend your money on this. Wait a bit longer and you'll have a more accurate result.

Just admit you misread… 🙄

just do it if you want OP, you can do what you like. I would only advise against it if you’ll be disappointed with one sex or the other, in which case wait for NIPT or 20 week scan. And don’t rush out buying blue or pink!

Noodles85 · 09/05/2023 10:08

I am based in the U.K. and I am aware gender selection is not offered in this country.

Chocolats · 20/05/2023 17:03

@Starlordswife Any update about your results?

Starlordswife · 20/05/2023 17:33

Yes! I had an ultrasound on Wednesday which confirmed that I’m having my fifth boy. I’m absolutely gutted that my results told me I was having a girl and I let myself believe it so I have a lot of processing to do as it’s made my gender disappointment so much worse. At almost 9 weeks (going from my NHS dating scan) my blood test should have been accurate and false girls at that gestation are rare so it was a shock to say the least. I’ve sent them a shitty email about their accuracy and not had a response so bad form on their behalf. I’m just holding out a fraction of hope that my ultrasound may have been wrong- by my dates which I’m 100% certain on as I was tracking I would have been 15+2 at the ultrasound so still really early, baby was measuring 5 days ahead at my 12 week scan which would be impossible to be that far along as it would have meant baby was conceived several days before having done the deed 😂 not too hopeful that it’s wrong as I’ve seen my fair share of male ultrasounds and I know a peen when I see one but there’s always a chance.

Garethkeenansstapler · 20/05/2023 19:32

Sorry the scan didn’t match the test result, that must’ve been a surprise - are you ok? I just had a look at the ‘blue or pink’ website and it’s supposed to be 99% accurate, but is it really? I don’t see how a home blood test at 6 weeks can be so accurate? Hope they reply and you get some clarity. Congrats on your little boy xx

Hugasauras · 20/05/2023 19:39

I wouldn't waste the money. A friend bought me a Sneak Peek kit thing as a 'fun' thing to do with my second, so I did it and sent it off, made sure the area around me was bleached, DH was sent upstairs for the duration, etc. and it said we were having a boy. Fine, although I kind of felt it wasn't right as I felt exactly the same as I did when pregnant with DD1. DD2 was very clearly a girl at her 20-week scan and is now 11mo and definitely a girl! Friend did get a refund though - I had to send the relevant part of DD2's birth certificate!

I think you'd need to get it done in a clinical lab to be accurate.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/05/2023 19:40

Harmony (NIPT) is only 99% accurate for sex and that’s at 10+ weeks. Bullshit is ‘blue or pink’ equally accurate.

@Starlordswife sorry it wasn’t the result you wanted but congratulations and I bet your boys are going to be so excited to have a new team member!

Newnamenewname109870 · 20/05/2023 20:06

I don’t know if anyone’s said this already but you can do blood tests at a private clinic.

Noodles85 · 20/05/2023 21:04

I’m so sorry that this company let you down, as they did for me! I’m not sure everyone understands what gender disappointment is but I do, and I’m sending you lots of hugs. Your boy will be beautiful and you will love him so much, but I understand it’s devastating for you at the moment to not get the girl you longed for.
