I’m just curious to know how old everyone was when they got pregnant with their first child? My friend is 30, single and in an absolute panic that she’s not there yet so just looking to give her some reassurance.

16, had her at 17. I'm that cautionary tale that everyone tells, but I'm actually super happy with how life turned out. First few years were rough but I'm now only 32 and still feel young, kiddo is a happy healthy ambitious teen who I get on so well with, and I feel like I've got so much life left to live once she spreads her wings and goes to live hers. Also ended up marrying her dad, but years after once we'd both done a bit of growing up. Funny old world.

What a lovely story.

I don’t think it’s ‘shit I’m 30, will I conceive ok at this age?’ it’s more ‘shit I’m 30 and single and want kids, feel like the clock is ticking down to meet someone then get to know them for an adequate amount of time before having kids’

Nobody I know who is 30 in a LTR/engaged is panicking, just the single ones

Oh yeah, that’s absolutely not what I meant. I meant it more in the sense that in my parents’ generation and earlier, it was ‘expected’/the norm that you would have children a bit earlier and you were likely the rarity if you had them in your 30s+, whereas now I don’t think people think twice if you’re in your 30s and even 40s and beyond.

  1. No regrets. I knew I wanted a career and it sorta worked out perfectly as worked / studied while tax credits helped with childcare and qualified as she was starting school. Hard work obviously but now I can enjoy my 30s. That said, every single one of my friends are just starting to think about it now (one got pregnant last year) so it's definitely normal this generation to wait.

22 with my 1st. He's now 41

Blueisthecolor · 29/01/2023 17:38

I'd have been the exact same in her position. Mainly because I wouldn't rush things and would have liked to live together for a few years with someone before marrying and having kids.

Anyway I was 30 when I got pregnant and 31 when my first was born. Second baby pregnant at 33 baby born just after I turned 34.
