Feeling unwell and reduced movements

Hi I'm pretty sure I know what the advice is going to be, to ring the unit, but just wanted to sense check this somewhere!

I'm 32.5 weeks pregnant with baby number 2, have some slight growth issues and low fluid which I'm on weekly scans for as they're worried about my placenta function.

The past few days I've felt a bit unwell, a bit like morning sickness or the start of a stomach bug but no vomiting or anything. I've been busy today and from about 11.30 until 10 minutes ago I maybe only remember feeling baby move once or twice. I'm now lying on my left side and after some prods I'm getting some movement from them, however it's quite light and still few and far between.

I want to ring the unit and I know they'll tell me to come in for monitoring to be safe. My husband thinks I'm being paranoid because Ive been a bit stressed about the placenta issues over the weekend. He thinks I should eat something first and see how the movements are after that as I've not ate much all day due to the sickness feeling. My concern is that yes baby's movements might pick up after food but they've been quiet for a while now so that's not going to negate my concern?

Sorry its so long, I'm just wondering if I'm right or if I'm maybe overreacting? I'm also worried incase I have a stomach bug and don't want to take that into the hospital with me incase I pass it on. I also have a scan booked for late tomorrow so could "wait and see" until then. I dunno I just have a bad feeling.

Please just ring now, don’t wait for people to reply.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/01/2023 17:16

Just call. Or go straight to your local EPAU. They never mind. Ever. Even if baby is just having a sleepy day.

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 15/01/2023 17:17

Your placenta and fluid issues are all the more reason to get checked

mamatoTails · 15/01/2023 17:17

Just call. They will ask you to go in, and they will never think you are being a problem. There will probably be other pregnant ladies there too, with similar concerns. Please just call.

Adviceneeded200 · 15/01/2023 17:17

Call. Go with your gut feeling.

It's never the wrong decision to get checked when things don't feel normal. Hopefully everything will prove to be in order.

Good luck!

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2023 17:18

Go in now!

littlemissalwaystired · 15/01/2023 17:18

Midwife here, definitely call them! You're not being paranoid. Better to go in and have the peace of mind. Let the midwives know you have a sickness bug and they can see you somewhere suitable.

Lindtcat · 15/01/2023 17:21

Yes go get checked. I don't normally feel baby move much when I'm busy either but especially as you're laying down and not feeling much. All the more reason to get checked.

Battygirll · 15/01/2023 17:21

Don't waste time eating or listening to your husband.

Go in NOW.

mightymam · 15/01/2023 17:25

I had 9 episodes of RFM and went in everyday for monitoring until having an EMCS birth at 36 weeks. Go in and get checked.

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 15/01/2023 17:26

No you ring the unit any time you have a change in movements. Your husband might be trying to reassure you but he can't know what is going on I there.

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 15/01/2023 17:27

Your midwife/s should be drilling this in to you every single visit

Tallie27 · 15/01/2023 17:41

Thanks all, just got off the phone and they've asked me to eat something first then go in in an hour, despite me saying I don't feel well enough to eat anything substantial. They basically said that's why my baby isn't moving (I've had fizzy pop, a sandwich and some chocolate in the past few hours so not exactly starving myself). This is why I hate ringing up to go in, they make you feel like such an inconvenience before you even get there. She also seemed pissed that I didn't have any covid tests in the house to test before I go (I have 0 symptoms of covid, I mentioned nausea that was it).

And I've only actually seen my midwife once this pregnancy and she only said she forgot to give me the leaflet on movements and she left them at home so to remind her next time. That's it.

That is ridiculously bad advice.

Go in now.

StarsandStones · 15/01/2023 17:52

Please go! Better safe than sorry. And you have risk factors.

Delorestormborn · 15/01/2023 17:53

They always sound pissed off. You should go in and just get monitored. Then they might put you on more frequent monitoring until the baby comes.
You're doing the right thing. Have some fruit juice or something easy to drink but with a bit of sugar.

Tallie27 · 15/01/2023 17:53

@Battygirll I'm setting off now. I agree it's not great advice at all, and tbh she made me feel like a timewaster on the phone. But I don't care, I need to know my baby is ok.

Another one for just go in now. I only ever went once with reduced movements I felt like such an idiot but they were so lovely

Good for you, most important to get checked, take no notice if anyone makes you feel like a timewaster, baby is more important x

Menopausalandtetchy · 15/01/2023 18:28

Midwife here. That’s poor advice. Glad you have gone in. Do let us know how you get on

So glad to hear this - best of luck

Glad you've gone in. Let us know how you get on. I'm sure baby is fine.

Kentlassie · 15/01/2023 18:59

Glad you’ve gone in. Hope all’s ok. I always used to think, you are the mum and you have to fight for your baby. It’s such a hard judgement call to make sometimes but so much better to “overreact” than not act and something is wrong.

elliesmummy19 · 15/01/2023 19:12

I’m glad you’ve gone in, OP. Never wait around with reduced movements. Their advice was terrible. Let us know how you get on!
