As the title says really. I'm on my way for blood tests. I should be 5+2 today. I'm devastated.

Ladies, thank you so much. I'm still so scared, but I feel that I have a glimmer of hope.

Any more happy endings, keep them coming! I'm so grateful for all of the input.

My husband is so scared too, he won't entertain the idea that it's going to be okay. I know that he's trying to protect us both. It's so hard.

Please please take this from someone who has had several pregnancies...

Pregnancy can be dodgy at the best of times
You are really really early and with the greatest love, get on with your life for a couple of weeks (obv not drinking and taking folic acid etc etc)
If its a viable pregnancy it'll become much more obvious on the tests
If it's not you will just have a heavyish period (at this stage)

at 5+2 you are barely pregnant...you may have implantation bleeding, even periods through the pregnancy.

I couldn't believe the doctors weren't more concerned when I thought I was miscarrying. But I wasn't and didn't and he's 17 now....he's just driven me down the road and that was way way more scary Grin

You will only really know it's a viable pregnancy when you get to 12 weeks, and the next time around to will get to 12 weeks and be giving others this kind of advice.

@PutOnAHappyFace 6 days ago, Thursday 22nd. Why do you ask?

Benjispruce4 · 28/12/2022 20:51

23 years ago my tests were over £10 and I remember being confused when I rang Gp for results and getting a negative over the phone from the receptionist. I did another home test and that was positive and made an appointment and the gp just went with it this time. He said you have to be further along for their tests to show positive. I think I went after testing on about 40+ days since last period.

PutOnAHappyFace · 28/12/2022 20:52

I'd be thinking its a chemical pregnancy tbh, I'd expect your FRER to be darker than that if it's been 6 days since your first positive.

I hope I'm wrong but that's my gut feeling. So sorry to be a downer.

Longbin · 28/12/2022 20:55

Can you order an hcg test online and do that, then another 48 hours later? That will show if the levels are doubling as they should or decreasing

Benjispruce4 · 28/12/2022 20:58

Mine were faint lines with both DC.

Needtobuildabridge · 28/12/2022 21:02

@Longbin I've had the first of the blood tests today. The Dr said he'd phone with the results tomorrow. 🤞🏻

Is there a reason you are doing so many tests?
Have you had previous losses.

I know this sounds really trite but try not to worry about something you can't change.

Needtobuildabridge · 28/12/2022 15:25

@stairgates these are my ones from when I tested everyday. The final one is from boxing day. People said to stop testing as line progression didn't matter. There's so much conflicting advice

This is exactly what my internet cheap tests looked like when I was testing every day in the early stages, they were all over the place in terms of darkness and line progression. The pregnancy stuck and has been healthy so far.

Even my FRER tests were a bit here and there.

WorriedWarrier · 28/12/2022 21:55

So the nhs are getting piss tests that aren’t as sensitive? Doesn’t sound right that….
you are pregnant

Longbin · 28/12/2022 22:05

@Needtobuildabridge ask what the level is as my GP has not told me before when leaving a voicemail. They should be expecting it to be higher than a certain level by a set date so if he just says it's positive that doesn't give enough info.

Icouldabeenalawyer · 28/12/2022 22:23

Yeah also the progression of the strip tests reminds me of my early losses, sorry OP but I hope I'm wrong.

Hi @Needtobuildabridge
I was in the early stages of my pregnancy and had a bleed like i've never seen anything like it, i thought that's it, it's over but by some miracle my baby girl was still there and i gave birth to her in October 👶
Sending you lots of happy positive bubba vibes x

The tests they use at our hospital are 25miu. Not very sensitive considering the gynae ward and epu use the same tests.

Boomboom22 · 28/12/2022 22:41

Usually you ring the midwifes direct after the gp receptionist tells you too and booking in is more like 10 weeks. They aren't usually interested before that. No gp involved. No need for gp to test to confirm as the home tests are more accurate anyway. So I'm not sure why the gp is involved or doing blood tests at 5 weeks. Unless you have previously had 3 miscarriages the NHS guidance is to wait and see I'm afraid.

Boomboom22 · 28/12/2022 22:43

And it sounds like you are pregnant but as others said you just don't know so early if this one will definitely stick as it were. If not though it's not you, your body is working and I hope all is well.

Wagsandclaws · 28/12/2022 22:55

If your dates are wrong then it's probably fine but I'd also expect them to be getting darker by now.

Tomorrow morning when you get the results of your bloods should tell you definitively. I'm keeping everything crossed for you op- I can remember this all too well.

NalaNana · 28/12/2022 22:56

@Boomboom22 from OPs posts it looks like she told her doctor that she was struggling and that's why she's having the blood tests, to give her some answers. 10 weeks sounds late for booking considering you should be screened for sickle cell before 10 weeks, in my experience booking has been done at 8 weeks!

Sickle cell screening is only done if you are in an 'at risk' group where I'm from. Booking is also between 8-10 weeks (usually around the 10 week mark).

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 29/12/2022 08:23

I’ve got 3 children and was never screened for sickle cell. Unless you’re a high risk group, you’re not being screened.

NalaNana · 29/12/2022 10:45

I'm not in a high risk group at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ just looked it up in gov guidance and it depends on where you live for sickle cell apparently but you should still be offered thalassemnia before 10 weeks:

Screening in pregnancy for SCD and thalassaemia involves having a blood test. It is best to have the test before you are 10 weeks pregnant.
All pregnant women are offered a test for thalassaemia but not all women are automatically offered a test for SCD. The screening offered depends on where you live.

Needtobuildabridge · 29/12/2022 12:45

Hcg is 22. Dr said it should he in the 100s by now. It's either not a viable pregnancy, and I'll start bleeding soon. Or ectopic.
