How did you conceive a girl?

Just for fun really. I've got 3 boys and am currently pregnant with baby 3. We have 2 boys already which I'm almost certain we're conceived either the day before / the day of ovulation. However this time we only had sex 4/5 days before suspected ovulation, and I'm curious whether the old wives tale was true for anyone else which says that the further away from ovulation you have sex, the more likely it is to be a girl.

Has this been true for anyone else? I genuinely would be over the moon with another boy but would be lying if I said I wouldn't love a girl one day so just curious to see what others experiences are

TIA

By doing it 'doggy style'!

Absolutely, with your arse stuck up in the air and your fingers crossed. You then have it give it a little shimmy when he reaches the hallelujah moment. Worked for me, twice. Altho I'm not sure the enthusiastic announcement of "Oh My God, I'm arriving " is strictly necessary from your lord and master.

I tied a pink ribbon around a wooden spoon and put this under my bed - which is an Old Wives story and I didn't conceive in that bed anyway.

I ate LOTS of cranberries and
LOTS of dairy products which are supposed to affect your CM and the chance of girl sperm v boy sperm reaching the egg.

I had a girl. It's 50:50.

FriedasCarLoad · 21/12/2022 22:09

First girl: sex at least 4 times a day (honeymoon!)

Second girl (3rd child): sex at least every other day

AFAIK there's no way to influence which sex the baby will be.

1 boy and 1 girl. Followed the advice about when to conceive i.e pre / post ovulation and it worked a treat for us!

gogohmm · 21/12/2022 22:18

2 dc, both DD's neither planned.

Think I got pregnant literally 1 or 2 days after my period ended (meant to being careful) oops!

Old wives tale that men who have brothers produce boys and men who have sisters produce daughters. Seems true from my own anecdotal experience.

SpinningFloppa · 21/12/2022 22:20

I didn’t try to 🤷‍♀️ I have 2 boys 2 girls

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 22:21

The only permitted way to sway the odds in this country is ICSI. Otherwise you can go abroad and do PGT. It’s becoming quite common in the US now.

devildeepbluesea · 21/12/2022 22:21

By getting a spermatozoa to impregnate an egg and that combination ultimately producing xx chromosomes.

I had a greasy kebab in Torquay and had sex in a run down B&B = girl.

Staying at home and having proper food = boy.

I thought everyone knew that.

Eatentoomanyroses · 21/12/2022 22:34

I’ve only ever conceived on the day of or maybe the day before ovulation. I’ve always used clear blue ovulation predictors and I get pretty distinct ovulation pain. Both mine are girls. I’ve had a fair few miscarriages though. I wonder sometimes if I can’t carry boys and the others were boys but anyway I’ve had girls from sex very close to ovulation.

Willowswood · 21/12/2022 22:34

No idea, but I had two boys and then a girl and I can honestly say it's the best thing ever.

Frostine · 21/12/2022 22:36

Pot luck , no timing . 2 girls.

mondaytosunday · 21/12/2022 22:42

Nothing special. First girl in the family in 120 years.

blueflagflyhigh · 21/12/2022 22:55

First daughter def conceived on day of ovulation. We had to temp move in with in-laws as our new house wasn't ready for a few weeks but had sold previous house. It was a in and out job to keep any noise levels to a minimum 😂

Second daughter I'm not sure it wld have been prob close to ovulation but to be honest we used to try and dtd every other day for around 2wks as my cycle lengths were very variable.

Not sure I believe any of these methods though.

@Parky04 hahahahah I heard this somewhere else too! Too late, fairly sure this baby wasn't conceived that way but there's always next time 😂

My son was conceived doggy style so that it is an old midwives tale

TheShellBeach · 21/12/2022 23:19

Shagging in our parents' old bed caused me and my sisters to get pregnant with girls.

Dyra · 21/12/2022 23:59

By having lots of sex! 😉

But in all seriousness, it's how it's worked out for me.

T'was just after Christmas, so sex every day. Poor DH wanted rest, but I would brook no delay. The sonogram had suggested two follicles ready to go! So I raised his flagging spirits with my feminine mojo. Over, and over, until one January night. One line, then two! The most thrilling sight! Nearly three years of waiting come to an end. The wait seemed interminable, but time would not bend. Then at long last, in early September, came my baby girl. A memory to forever remember.

TL;DR: TTC for three years. Took a course of Clomid. Ultrasound showed imminent ovulation. Was already having a lot of sex, so had more. Fell pregnant. Had a girl.

I've also got DC2. Had sex literally once the entire cycle as I wasn't feeling well for most of it. Got pregnant anyway. Had a boy.

In summary: Lots of sex = Girl. Near celibacy = Boy

TinaYouFatLard · 22/12/2022 00:03

I have B/G twins so 🤷‍♀️

TTCBBY3 · 22/12/2022 06:20

@hollyjolls typo sorry, I have 2 boys and pregnant with 3rd baby

@Eatentoomanyroses my mum has a similar theory about my dad not being able to produce boys. I have a half brother from her first marriage, she then went on to fall pregnant 6 times with my dad - 4 girls (living) and 2 boys (both miscarried)

@JamMakingWannaBe you say it's 50:50 but you tried the old wives tales anyway

We did Shettles for DC2 (girl) after a surprise DS conceived on D5 of a 24 day cycle. My BFF successfully settled a DS at the same time.

It's worth a go

TTCBBY3 · 22/12/2022 06:49

@babyyodaxmas excellent work! The reality is - if you only one one particular sex then you shouldn't be having a baby at all. Because of COURSE it's not guaranteed. But is it possible? Maybe. Lots of people have had success, so I guess it's worth a go. I'll give it a go for number 4 (either this one is a girl and i can give her a sister, or it's a boy and I can try for a girl).

BFF Shettled a boy. Of course I would have been happy with a second DS. It's just a bit of fun.
