Waxing before the due date

I'm just interested in those of you who considered waxing before birth. How far in advance do you book it? Obv. I want to stay nice and smooth for as long as possible afterwards, but I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I went into labour early after having planned to be all neat and tidy. So hard to predict!

Also, I find it hysterical how many mothers say, "Don't do it! It's too painful!" This is my first, so I don't have any personal experience, but can you imagine a wax being comparable to giving birth?

Don’t do it. It can increase your chances of infection

You may struggle to find a beautician who will wax you heavily pregnant. There's a risk of the adrenaline from the pain sending you into labour or some such I think.

It's said to be more painful because of the extra blood flow to the general area. Just like when your on your period. This never bothered me so it may not bother you.

Basically if it's safe do as you please. Nobody else will care.

20viona · 19/12/2022 18:39

I always have a Hollywood for the last 5 years and I had one the day before I was induced with both of my daughters. I'm convinced that it helped me have such a good episiotomy and suturing both times with a clear view lol.

SweetRascal · 19/12/2022 18:40

It's the last thing you or anyone else will care about. If you have a vaginal birth, they'll be your waters, blood, mucus, even poo! A bit of hair won't even get seen. When my second was put on my chest, she did her first poo all down my stomach which ran down lower too. Giving birth ain't glamorous despite what Instagram might show.

Don't worry about it.

StopStartStop · 19/12/2022 18:40

I've never heard such nonsense. Go unshaven, like the adult you are.

Or do your own thing. Whatever you want. It's your body.

bakewellbride · 19/12/2022 18:50

Just shave / tidy a bit, simple and done.

Sarahcoggles · 19/12/2022 18:58

When you're in the throes of labour, get your birth partner to ask you if you're embarrassed about being all hairy down there. Then you'll know how much it bothers you!!

scooobie · 19/12/2022 19:12

@20viona I can assure you that your Hollywood had no bearing on the quality of your episiotomy or sutures. FFS!

Im a midwife, I promise you we don’t care and there is actually less infection risk with a bit of hair.

OrcaBlondie · 19/12/2022 20:54

I am a waxer. How many weeks pregnant are you? If you wish to be waxed go for it. Definitely easier than shaving. I would recommend getting one ASAP so you can fit in a few before labour (if you have enough time left) as the hair growth will be less and less each time. Recommended you have one every 4-6 weeks but will depend on your hair growth. I have been getting hollywoods for years and have continued throughout pregnancy every 5 weeks. It is always slightly painful but gets less painful each wax you get as the hairs grow back finer. Please make sure you choose someone who is qualified and experienced (I suggest looking for someone who has Kim Lawless training) and will offer hot wax. My waxer is specialised in pregnancy waxing. Like you say, you can’t predict when you will go in to labour so it might be you go in to labour before you get waxed! I am 34 weeks and have just been waxed and so I’m trying to decide when to book my next.

hopingfor23 · 19/12/2022 21:03

I'm booked in for my wax at 38+3! I am most comfortable waxed and if you are too then go for it ignore what anyone says :-)

SilverCatStripes · 19/12/2022 21:07

Bloody hell why is this even a thing ??

You are an adult human female, you have public hair, why should you remove it ?

LocSeeTan · 19/12/2022 21:12

I couldn't care less. Lanou6is amessy provess8 Nobody's going to be registering if your fanny is as a bald as a coot or au natural.
You may or may not pas a turd, break wind or shart.
A funny bald fanny isn't going to change any

of that.

NancyJoan · 19/12/2022 21:16

Get some Veet cream. It will give you something to do in early labour.

Fedupsequin · 19/12/2022 21:17

Go for it OP but be prepared for the pain-i have regular waxes but couldn’t finish the full wax when I was pregnant with DC1 and the beautician said it’s common because waxing in pregnancy is so much more sensitive.

Hathats · 19/12/2022 21:19

I'm a beauty therapist for over 10 years. Touch wood I haven't triggered labour yet! I do use Lycon though, it is much less painful then a lot of other hot wax brands.

Lincolnremain · 19/12/2022 21:22

I feel a bit sad that you feel you need to do this. If you were on a desert island would you be doing this? No, stop trying to please other people

Jellyjam36 · 19/12/2022 21:26

Just tidy it up, have a trim if you can manage (I can't even see mine and ive tried my best to sort it out a little).
Midwife told me completely shaving it increases risk of tearing and infection. My first I had shaved, it didn't make much difference, but I really wouldn't care if I was hairy to be honest. Keeping my legs shaved this time though!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/12/2022 21:30

I did this, not a Hollywood though just a tidy up!! I have no interest in being bald down there.
I had a planned section so booked the wax for about a week before.

DuchessofSandwich · 19/12/2022 21:31

I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I went into labour early after having planned to be all neat and tidy.

Just to warn you that giving birth is anything but "neat and tidy". Your waters will keep leaking with every contraction, you're going to poo yourself and be hot and red and sweaty.

Seeing your baby for the first time will also be the most impressive thing that will ever have happened to you.

Notellinganyone · 19/12/2022 21:33

Why on earth would you do this? Your body is going to be going through pretty traumatic changes - leave it be.

Don't be so daft! I don't wax for other people, and I'd absolutely do it if I was on a desert island. It's for me & how I like to look, no-one else.

There's no need to judge someone for their preferences (either way) about body hair.

EarringsandLipstick · 19/12/2022 21:39

It's the last thing you or anyone else will care about.

I agree it's possibly the last thing anyone else will care about but don't speak for everyone regarding who cares about their own body!

I went nearly 4 weeks early on my first; I had planned my waxing for the following week. I am sure in the complete throes of labour I didn't particularly care, but I did think of it early on & afterwards I couldn't wait to get waxed. Slightly unadvisedly, I had a wax 2 weeks after giving birth. Definitely not my best idea but I was determined.

Women have a variety of preferences about how they manage their body hair, and they are all valid.

Rosamunde · 19/12/2022 21:46

@EarringsandLipstick what do you mean by ‘valid’? Do you mean no one option is better than the others? I don’t agree with this. I think the option that minimises cost, pain, inconvenience and vanity is always going to be the best. I think sometimes we have to have principles about things and not just say all choices are equally fine. Otherwise what values do we live by?

OrcaBlondie · 19/12/2022 21:47

Wow! Some of the comments on here 🤦🏻‍♀️ such small minded people.

Some people prefer to be hair free down there because they feel more comfortable - me included! And I don’t mean comfortable as in I’d be embarrassed if someone saw me with a hairy vagina I mean literal comfort. I just don’t like having hair down there. If you choose to be au natural then good for you, but I bet you don’t expect or would like to be belittled for this preference and choice? If someone wants to get waxed then why do you even care, don’t comment, it is their choice and their preference. I get waxed every 5 weeks and have continued to throughout my pregnancy. I do it for ME myself and I, and not for anyone else. My partner doesn’t care one bit if I have hair or none and I really don’t care if I have hair when I give birth.

Rosamunde · 19/12/2022 21:48

Anyway @flawless29 I think do it if you really must but no nobody will care, including you. I had 4 babies and pooed myself every time. Didn’t care at all :)
