Waxing before the due date

I'm just interested in those of you who considered waxing before birth. How far in advance do you book it? Obv. I want to stay nice and smooth for as long as possible afterwards, but I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I went into labour early after having planned to be all neat and tidy. So hard to predict!

Also, I find it hysterical how many mothers say, "Don't do it! It's too painful!" This is my first, so I don't have any personal experience, but can you imagine a wax being comparable to giving birth?

You may struggle to find a beautician who will wax you heavily pregnant. There's a risk of the adrenaline from the pain sending you into labour or some such I think.

It's said to be more painful because of the extra blood flow to the general area. Just like when your on your period. This never bothered me so it may not bother you.

Basically if it's safe do as you please. Nobody else will care.

Adrenaline is the opposite to what you need to bring on labour by the way.

Dyra · 19/12/2022 21:51

I've heard it's a lot more painful than usual when pregnant, but if you get it regularly done, it might not be as bad. You also have to be careful not to lie on your back for long, or at least lie canted to one side to avoid putting pressure on a very important vein.

I wish I could have had it done, but both times I've had the baby before I worked up the courage to book it. I wound up doing my best shaving by feel. No idea what it looked like thank goodness, but it made me feel better to try.

As for those posters who say "why bother?" Well, why bother cutting your hair? Plucking your eyebrows? Moustache and chin hairs? Legs? Believe me, I don't do any of the above for DH. If and when I do do them, it's purely because I want to. Because I think it looks better and makes me feel better about myself. And even a glimmer of body positivity is hard to come by for me. Yes the staff don't care. I should know. I'm one of them. But when it comes to MY body, it matters to me.

Very well said 👏

Both times I waxed before due date. Probably a month before and then if anything quick shave. It's painful probably even more because of being pregnant but it's a relief for me.

blackandwhitecat123 · 19/12/2022 22:37

I'd do mine beforehand if I had a second, I ended up with a C-section with everything flowing free and wild down there and they didn't shave me, just stuck the extremely sticky dressing down over my pubes. You'd think having it removed would have been akin to waxing, but it doesn't come off quickly like a waxing strip and the midwife had to pull it off in agonising stages as my pubes were slowly ripped out. By the end I was insisting that I didn't mind just having it stuck to me forever but it had to come off.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 19/12/2022 22:48

Entirely you choice.

I wax anyway and knew I was having an ELCS, so was told I would need to have the hair removed or they would do it for me in pre-op with a Bic. I didn't need to be told twice!

Actually it was fascinating because I didn't know what I was in for but my lovely beautician had seen so many scars she told me what size and where to expect it. She also went quite low 'to be on the safe side' which the consultant found highly amusing because, as he pointed out, he wasn't going to cut through my pubic bone!

I did it about one week before the c-section, so at 38 weeks. I can't recall if the pain was any different to normal.

CheesenCrackersmm · 19/12/2022 23:15

Wow some people really have an issue with women being hair free. Where do these issues come from?

Hatscats · 20/12/2022 04:11

I wouldn’t do it unless you’re used to being waxed!

Waiteflower · 20/12/2022 04:18

I planned to shave down there a couple of weeks before my c section but she came early and I had uhm to put it kindly a big bush so they shaved me in my c section and when I looked in the mirror to look at my scar - it looked like this, I couldn't stop laughing.
(His hair obviously)

Do what you feel most comfortable doing.

Rosamunde · 19/12/2022 21:46

@EarringsandLipstick what do you mean by ‘valid’? Do you mean no one option is better than the others? I don’t agree with this. I think the option that minimises cost, pain, inconvenience and vanity is always going to be the best. I think sometimes we have to have principles about things and not just say all choices are equally fine. Otherwise what values do we live by?

No - for you not waxing is the valid option. For me, it isn't - I don't find it painful particularly, I like how it looks - it's my choice & it's valid for me!

It's outrageous you think you can adjudicate on a choice being about 'vanity' and then decide it's not valid on that basis. It's nothing to do with you!

EarringsandLipstick · 20/12/2022 06:36

Rosamunde · 19/12/2022 21:48

Anyway @flawless29 I think do it if you really must but no nobody will care, including you. I had 4 babies and pooed myself every time. Didn’t care at all :)

You don't know how OP will feel. I cared, and wanted to be waxed ahead of delivery.

Mfitz1987 · 20/12/2022 06:52

My sister had always got waxed about a week before her due date and has had no issue. This is my first baby too and I'm waiting to get passed the 12 week stage and will be getting waxed. Getting waxed is not about the appearance it's about how it feels and I hate shaving as it makes me itchy and I can't stand having hair down there as that also makes me itchy.

babyjellyfish · 20/12/2022 10:28

I did a DIY wax the morning I went in to be induced. I didn't wax everything off, just neatened things up a bit. I took a decent strip off the top and was glad I had because I ended up having a C-section. The hairline was low enough that they didn't need to shave me and I didn't get regrowth coming through until the scar was already healing up nicely. This time I will try to do the same, but since I already have a C-section scar I know exactly how low down to take the hair off!

flawless29 · 21/12/2022 19:09

@StopStartStop I was looking for waxing advice, not someone to pass judgement on my choice. Thank you for response any way.

Bloody hell why is this even a thing ??

You are an adult human female, you have public hair, why should you remove it ?

Bloody hell, you're a human, why even wear clothes or cut your hair or file your nails?

SparkyBlue · 21/12/2022 20:12

My babies were all premature so I never booked in for a specific about to give birth wax but I waxed during pregnancy and my skin was way more sensitive than normal and it did hurt more

trevthecat · 21/12/2022 20:17

Regular waxer here! Do what makes you most comfortable. It's your body. Some of the comments on here are really unnecessary

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 21/12/2022 20:18

I had a wax before c section, about a week before. I was glad I did as no hair was caught in the bandage and it was easy to see it. I don't remember it being more painful than normal. I go to a place in London that only does waxes and they said they have tons of pregnant women, they even have a special package.

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 21/12/2022 20:21

Shaving that area is so uncomfortable and sharp when it grows back. Wax is grows back really soft and no discomfort

OldWivesTale · 21/12/2022 20:35

You won't even care when you shit yourself so I don't think you'll be too worried about a bit of public hair 😆

OldWivesTale · 21/12/2022 20:36

For a planned c section you are asked not to shave 2 weeks prior to the operation. You may need an emergency c section
