Never used moisturiser on my DC. Johnson’s a false economy as per PP

Nothing is as good as Aveeno. It’s always on offer somewhere, a loop of 1/3 off or similar.

DarkDarkNight · 01/12/2022 22:51

I like Child’s Farm and still use it for my son. Also used Weleda Calendula baby stuff and Burt’s Bees which are both lovely.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/12/2022 22:54

We used Burts Bees for DD but she developed an allergy to chamomile & so we switched to Child's Farm. Was fine with that (still is) & DS is too.

Mine are way older, but the thread caught my eye as I listened to part of an interview with the CF entrepreneur on Radio 4 today around 12 o’clock.

Unless you live in the back of beyond and have ship in your stores by mule train just buy one of things and buy more once baby arrives. One bottle will last quite a while, you don't use much each time and for the first few weeks plain water is better.

Amazon subscribe and save, or ordinary supermarket delivery every 2 months I would recommend

Weleda, DS has eczema and this is the best I've found by far. A little goes a long way with it too

This. This stuff is magic, they do bath creme, nappy cream, face cream, and a combined shampoo and baby bath.
I ran out and used Johnsons shampoo and within a week DS had awful cradle cap that took ages to get rid of.
The nappy cream is worth its weight in gold. It is very expensive though so once DS got to about 18 months I swapped to childs farm for bath stuff.
The ingredients in childs farm are good, but most other baby toiletries includes petroleum based oils or SLS which is very drying.

CuriousEats · 01/12/2022 23:05

And another vote for just water unless they're filthy or have greasy hair from lots of mauling relatives!! Envy

forevercooking · 01/12/2022 23:10

I had severe dermatitis on one hand. Tried all the steroid creams from docs etc. used to get infected . Had it for years and years. The only thing that cleared it up was child's farm - now you'd never know I'd ever had it

MasterCherry · 02/12/2022 01:15

I agree with those pp who say not to bother stocking up. Plain water is fine for washing babies!

Bubbles021 · 02/12/2022 08:04

My daughter has had a bit of a dribble rash from teething and child farm did nothing but baby Aveeno had cleared it right up

SheWoreYellow · 02/12/2022 08:07

Nothing to begin with - like the first year. Maybe a bit of coconut or olive oil for dry skin and then child’s farm shampoo when you really need to. If they have nappy rash you use nappy rash cream. There’s no need to regularly use anything else.

canyoutoleratethis · 02/12/2022 08:09

Another vote for just water. Our children just do not need all these products on their delicate skin (skin conditions aside of course - that's a different issue, and you won't know that until your baby is born). Water only for the first year. And then we use Aveeno to deal with all the toddler grime!

xogossipgirlxo · 02/12/2022 09:21

I tried Child's farm shampoo on myself, and I found it very harsh 🤐

How good to read some wise words- I never realised I can use just water. Seriously, I'm not being ironic. I thought of more gentle body wash, but I think I will try just water at first, saves you some pennies and don't damage skin barrier.

mishmased · 02/12/2022 14:01

I swear by Atoderm by Bioderma. Fantastic shower gel and moisturizers. We have used Aveeno, child's farm, Dermexa but have found Bioderma to be better. It is a bit pricier than the other brands and hypoallergenic.

mishmased · 02/12/2022 14:01

@Spockrates do you have dry skin or eczema in the family?

Caspianberg · 02/12/2022 14:08

Weleda here as well.

I wouldn’t bother stocking up though, you should hardly use that much of anything.

The weleda butt cream we only used one tiny tube over 2 years of nappies.

@theydontspeakforus I actually got a few of the unscented child's farm bottles but even tho I bought some I still haven't decided what I want to put her on I may get a few bottles of aveeno baby just incase

How much stuff are you buying? A bottle of shampoo or baby wash lasts about a year.

I used it on myself and found it was fine. Hair was lovely and soft

Emmamoo89 · 02/12/2022 17:07

I started using products on my son around 8 weeks. Only twice a week. Rest of time used water. Its fine to use soap before 6 months/year. Just don't use it too much and moisturize after every bath.

Emmamoo89 · 02/12/2022 17:09

Over*

Wait till they go to nursery. God knows what they did with that yellow metanium. They went through gallons.

Chatrattoria · 02/12/2022 21:02

Nothing until they are a lot older. I did startputtj g a chamomile tea bag in the baby’s bath water when they were about 6 months old. I thought it might help them sleep…

I think I used shampoo eventually, but never Johnson’s. My HV told me explicitly not to use it. I think I started on Burts Bees and then Earth Friendly Baby Camomile shampoo and body wash. I love Weleda but didn’t discover it until DC were grown. I like Childs Farm but only in much older children. It’s too highly perfumed for me. I never used bubbles in baths anyway, too worried about cystitis.

Lcb123 · 02/12/2022 21:09

Save your money and just use warm water!
