Accidentally ate mince pies with alcohol

Hi guys, as the title says I accidentally ate 4 mince pies that contain alcohol and wondered if the alcohol amount was anything to worry about? I'm 11weeks pregnant and ate them over three days before realising my mistake (box says infused with Brandy and lists alcohol in the ingredients) - really silly of me as it was clearly written but I just completely missed it. I didn't cook them before eating them so the alcohol won't have evaporated.
Just concerned as it's my first but maybe (hopefully) I'm worried about nothing!

Don’t worry at all! That will be absolutely and totally fine. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Peach2021 · 30/11/2022 11:11

the alcohol will have evaporated when they were originally cooked @elorana , so don't worry at all.

SoupDragon · 30/11/2022 11:11

The amount will be absolutely tiny. You'll be fine 🙂

SeaToSki · 30/11/2022 11:11

You will be fine, the baby will be fine. Dont sweat the small stuff or you will end up insanely stressed

AdoraBell · 30/11/2022 11:13

Almost just a trace of booze, you’ll be fine.

Congratulations

elorana · 30/11/2022 11:19

Thank you so much for your messages, really appreciate them and it definitely reassured me :)

Mince pies aren't raw in the box! They've already been cooked Smile

Dotingmumandgranny · 30/11/2022 11:25

I wouldn't worry about the amount of alcohol in a mince pie, but please be aware of the possible effects of eating sugar during pregnancy.

Eating raw mince would be more harmful than the alcohol. Are you sure they weren’t already cooked?

As the mince pies were in a box, I'd assume they were already cooked. I don't know of any companies selling raw mince pies.

Unsureofitall · 30/11/2022 11:31

The amount of things I've eaten in this pregnancy that we're apparently not supposed to eat. Didn't even occur to me not to until I read an article on one of my baby apps. Sushi, cheeses, deli meats, I was even using olbas oil for weeks until my midwife told me not to use it anymore. Baby is absolutely fine. Honestly, the risk is so low. Don't worry about it. Enjoy your pregnancy & congratulationsFlowers

Pythonese · 30/11/2022 11:33

Is this for real ?

Whiskyvodka · 30/11/2022 11:34

Op you’ll be fine.
I would imagine extreme poverty would have a much more detrimental effect on pregnancy so if you’re otherwise healthy then don’t worry.
Also my dm probably rubbed more brandy on our gums as babies than she ever consumed in pregnancy. Not that I agree with this obviously.

Mince pies are not made of meat mince and they do not need to be cooked.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 30/11/2022 11:38

Don’t worry Op. the advice saying no alcohol during pregnancy was generally aimed at people who couldn’t restrict their intake to one or two so a blanket ban seemed easier and clearer.

I had one or two glasses of wine every couple of weeks when I was pregnant and they were fine. There is negligible booze in mince pies.

Mince pies don't have actual mince. Just fruit.

I also agree with PPs that the amount of alcohol will be minuscule. Even at that it will have evaporated during cooking...a bit like red wine sauce etc

phlaps · 30/11/2022 11:39

Your body will have produced more alcohol via fermenting some of the sugar in the pies.

Blew my mind when someone told me that this happens inside us but makes perfect sense.

Some people really get it badly: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/dec/31/woman-whose-body-turns-food-into-alcohol-beats-drink-drive-charge

Oh yes because you always get a snidey comment like this.

OP was worried so she asked for reassurance. Honestly, just don't bother even wasting your time replying because god forbid someone worries about something you wouldn't.

Erm, you do know that there's no meat in them, right???

Mamadothehump · 30/11/2022 11:44

And to answer the PP, I promise no harm has been done by eating the mince pies!

SwishSwishBisch · 30/11/2022 11:48

the comment about raw mince made me laugh. Reminds me of Joey from Friends and Rachel’s beef mince trifle 😂

GimmeBiscuits · 30/11/2022 12:10

It's fine. I had a few G&T's at the start of my pregnancy because I didn't know I was pregnant (erratic periods and at the time, highly stressed which was adding to the lags). Once I knew I stopped drinking - although I did have a spritzer with a meal on one occasion. No ill effects at all.
Obviously drinking heavily and consistently is different but you're not doing that. The amount of alcohol left in a mince pie after its been cooked is negligible.

midsomermurderess · 30/11/2022 12:14

The most surprising thing about this is that someone thinks mince pies are made of mince.

This seems like an unnecessary addition to this thread where OP asked for advice about the alcohol in mince pies. To extrapolate that her sugar consumption is a concern from that is a bit of a reach! Also, the study focussed on sugary drinks specifically, which are not mentioned here at all.

OP, congratulations on your pregnancy!
