36 weeks, no constipation issues, but the combo of being simply enormous AND not moving properly thanks to severe SPD has popped out a pile the size of a walnut. (I assume; I’ve only felt the bastard, not had a look.)

I’ve got Anusol but it’s barely taking the edge off ;what else do I need? Standing and sitting and walking is difficult enough with the SPD, could live without the “arse on fire” sensation when I move as well. Would a bath help? Getting in and out of one is such a pain in the arse I don’t want to try unless it cures the pain in my arse.

I don’t care if this thing dangles out of me forever, so long as it’s numb.

Warm bath will definitely help the pain, then you need suppositories

lilacrosa · 25/11/2022 21:15

I had them during my pregnancies - you have my full sympathy! Not a hot bath, that will make it throb more. You need some preparation H, use prep H wipes after a poo and you need to sit on some ice to shrink it, fill a latex glove with water and freeze and one of the fingers should be perfect to get right in there!

Also get a piles cushion and if it gets worse go to the docs, they can prescribe an ointment. And be prepared to have them after the birth too xxx

LetsBekindx · 25/11/2022 21:15

Im exactly the same 36 weeks, discovered my massive unwanted friend 2 days ago. Im only using anusol, it can take up to a week or so. Keep persevering, i know it bloody hurts! Its not recommended to use anusol for 7 consecutive days though, so if it hasnt helped i would go to your gp. I havent found a bath has made a difference tbf. 🤦🏻‍♀️

quietnightmare · 25/11/2022 21:16

As PP said a bath

Keep going with a hail and suppositories

Witch hazel on a cotton pad

Crying helps lol

stuntbubbles · 25/11/2022 21:20

Thank you, I’m making a list to send DP to the chemist (I physically can’t walk there and also I feel he should have to share my pain by buying the stuff). GP appointment would be delightful but our practice is bloody awful.

So:

Prep H
Icy bum finger
Witch hazel
Doughnut cushion
Suppositories
Swearing like a banshee

People say babies are quite cheap – just nappies and a place to sleep! – but I’m recalling from my last rodeo it’s making them that’s so expensive. Have reached the “I’ll buy whatever it takes to not be in pain” stage of pregnancy.

I think Germaloids has a bit of anesthetiser in. Worked for me.I like the sound of those PrepH wipes too. Mine always seemed worse after a poo. Bizarrely and a little grossly farting was a brief relief. Like a self-administered kiss better 🙄

Hahahaha but please don’t make me laugh until I have wedged a bag of frozen peas between my bum cheeks. I’m a minute from trying to Deliveroo myself some arse anaesthetic.

Icy bum finger made me laugh at loud 🤣

Good luck OP!

Prep H do suppositories too I think x and yes Germaloids is good too (I tried them all)

Ice really helped though. And after the birth ibuprofen to help the throbbing pain!

The things we women have to go through

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 25/11/2022 21:26

😆
I see Germoloids do suppositories too - I bet they’re good and longer lasting than the cream - I used the cream. It says they’re safe in pregnancy too.

This thread made me chuckle

Also 12 weeks post partum and can confirm the piles don't bugger off anytime soon!! As if I didn't have enough going on down there. It's like your bum feels left out and wants to join the swollen, bleeding, generally messed up party 🫠🤦🏻‍♀️

*stares intently at baby and convinces self it was definitely worth it.

Blue2020 · 26/11/2022 06:26

I’m only 17 weeks, but I’ve been having this issue for a few years due to constipation and the gp/creams didn’t help me.

I just bought a sitz bath, it only came yesterday evening so I haven’t used it yet but it sits on the toilet and it’s like a little bath for the bum. Just add some warm water and sit on it for 10-15mins.

I really didn’t want to fill a bath and get in/out a few time a day. Also knowing my luck I would make the bath too hot. Hopefully this will help with all of that. I just bought a cheap one off Amazon- £16 and it came the next day. I got one that folds up to be slim when not in use.

I also bought some witch hazel pads that are apparently good for soothing. I haven’t tried these yet. So can’t say if they help.

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 12:28

Waddling back in to say thank you for the germaloids recommendation; it’s done what Anusol couldn’t. Have some Prep H as backup, and some witch hazel.

Plus! After some serious bum spasms (WHY on top of piles do they have to TWITCH) and some flinching when DD climbed on me, I recalled my patented Bum Wedge solution from my last pregnancy: a sort of profiterole-esque stack of cotton wool balls packed around the offending area so when it TWITCHES it doesn’t rub skin on skin. God knows what I look like from behind but the PGP stops me twisting to look anyway.

I’ve also been emotionally healed by making DP buy the assorted treatments as if for his own anus; it feels like a small repayment for creating this situation in the first place.

Brilliant 🤣

Also for comfort when it’s not time for the next suppository, I wiped clean every time I went to the loo then put pure aloe vera gel up there to soothe the soreness. If wiping feels like sandpaper, put the aloe vera on the loo roll and use it like a wet wipe (you need strong loo roll for this to work). You can buy alo vera gel at the pharmacy. Aqueous cream can also work but it’s flammable. 🫣

WheresMyDodo · 27/11/2022 12:43

Also when you do your pelvic floor exercises make sure to add in anal pelvic floor focus: clench your bum and move the muscles like you’re sucking up a straw, it gets the hemorroids to shrink and strengthens the wall of the anus (lovely lunch time reading lmao). It’s a long-term fix to help recovery and it can be too hard when they’re doing a bad flare up.

Liveafr · 27/11/2022 12:48

Buy a peri bottle, fill it with water and witch hazel. Keep it in the fridge, then after pooing, spray it generously. Not a miracle cure but it helps a bit in addition to the tips above. Good luck.

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 13:29

“When” I do my pelvic floor exercises – when is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence (unlike me)…

Oh my gosh am I glad I have come across this thread! Currently 30 weeks pregnant and suffering with the same. Anusol (which used to work just fine) is not having the slightest bit of difference at the moment!

FebMama · 29/11/2022 14:53

For those who have recommended/used germoloids cream, how quickly do you notice a difference/reduction in discomfort?

Bought some today! 🤞🏽

stuntbubbles · 29/11/2022 15:21

@FebMama Straight away. It was like sitting on a Mini Milk. Try my patented cotton wool ball cheek wedge alongside a big blob of it, manna from the Gods.

This 😂

FebMama · 29/11/2022 16:54

@stuntbubbles I defo think I need to give the cotton wool trick a go. I get instant relief for a short period of time then then the minute I stand up and walk (or do anything remotely active) it's just discomfort all over again. The joys of pregnancy eh.

stuntbubbles · 29/11/2022 17:31

@FebMama As good as an excuse as any to put your feet up! I got them around 30 weeks in my last pregnancy and they did eventually go numb, promise; I was back to waddling around by the end, then they magically disappeared after the birth – but I did have a section so no opportunity to push them out further.

OP posts:
FebMama · 29/11/2022 18:07

@stuntbubbles putting my feet up is exactly what I'm doing! I'm currently on a week of annual leave and have barely left the sofa for two days. Love it.

I initially got them during my first pregnancy too. Don't remember them being this irritating though! But yes you're right, after having DS1, they no longer caused me any problems, although I knew they hadn't gone away if that makes sense (clearly they were hiding waaaay up there). I also had a section with DS1!

Definitely both equal parts excited to have DS2 here and business in the backside resume as normal. 🥳

TurkeyTrouble · 29/11/2022 18:14

I had a thrombossed haemorrhoid in my pregnancy late on & it was the most painful thing I've ever been through, I remember it being worse than Labour. It was truly horrific & I dread it happening again in this pregnancy.
Sitz bath, Witch-hazel & a cushion are the only things I was recommended & I won't lie, nothing really helped until it stopped bleeding, you have my full sympathies x
