I like herbal teas and I’m cold right now😅

Erm, all of them?

Where have you seen/heard that you can't have any particular type of hot drinks?

What’s wrong with hot drinks?! Why would a herbal tea cause any problems at all?! Drink any one you like! I’d probably stay away from the mulled wine and it’s not advisable to have 27 cups of extra strong coffee, but other than that…

janie85 · 09/11/2022 18:08

PP is one of those unhelpful replies (moody much?)

OP I think you can have most hot drinks in moderation. Obviously anything with caffeine you need to only have 1/2 a day max but hot chocolate and most herbal teas are fine :-)

CloudybutMild · 09/11/2022 18:08

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, winter Pimm’s, mulled wine, hot toddy…

Lj8893 · 09/11/2022 18:09

I’d avoid mulled wine and cider.

Raindancer411 · 09/11/2022 18:11

When I was pregnant the only hot drink I could stomach, was a hot chocolate. Everything else did not agree with me...

I wasn’t expecting so many moody replies! Thanks for your reply. I’ve just heard that there are certain types of tea and herbs that pregnant women are encouraged to avoid. It’s my first pregnancy after being told I was infertile so I’m just being cautious :)

Herbal doesn't necessarily mean safe. Raspberry leaf tea should be avoided unless you're full term and trying to bring on labour.

WutheredOut · 09/11/2022 18:19

Raspberry Leaf area is a no go until 36 weeks or something. Fennel tea is good for water retention if you develop cankles

gogohmm · 09/11/2022 18:19

If avoid gluwein Grin. You can drink any (non alcohol drinks in moderation but avoid excessive caffeine consumption. I found ginger tea particularly nice

SheWoreYellow · 09/11/2022 18:20

Have you found the nhs list of things to avoid? Just use that

AgathaMystery · 09/11/2022 18:21

I’d avoid strong Irish coffees myself. Or limit myself to a couple a day!

wigglycactus · 09/11/2022 18:22

I love rooibos/redbush tea. I have it with honey and milk but lots drink it without either. It's caffeine free and quite widely available. My favourite brand is Tick Tock organic. The Aldi version is disgusting!

Justcallmebebes · 09/11/2022 18:34

Raspberry tea is a no no, apart from that, I can't think of anything

MyEasterEggs · 09/11/2022 18:40

You’re right to ask. I love the Tick Tock brand of redbush too - great for pregnancy - and they have earl grey and chai relax options. If you like milky drinks the chai one is nice infused in hot oat milk. Mummy’s Organics also do a nice digestive tea which is helping me through first trimester!

Meltingsocks · 09/11/2022 18:44

Ignore PP re 1-2 caffeinated drinks, that's been disproven many times. You're easily safe on 4-5 teas or 2-3 proper coffees

PinkPink1 · 09/11/2022 19:19

@MyEasterEggs the chai with oat milk sounds lovely! I like Rooibos tea :) @Meltingsocks that's really good to know, thanks!

You mean raspberry leaf?

WutheredOut · 09/11/2022 19:55

Actually having just looked up fennel tea they don’t recommend it in pregnancy because with can cause issues with oestrogen levels …. so ignore what I said earlier!

Dippydonky · 09/11/2022 20:17

Just to add…another redbush/rooibos tea lover. I’d only drink the tick tock brand up until discovering Lidl’s own (it’s much better than Aldi or Tetley, imo, and less than a pound a box)

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 09/11/2022 21:47

Peppermint is great for gas!

MarigoldMoonStone · 09/11/2022 21:48

Isn’t it just one’s with liquorice root you’re meant to avoid?

Mardyface · 09/11/2022 21:51

You'd be better off googling than asking on here tbh. Anything you ask that isn't 'how did you manage to get enough vitamins while in your prisoner of war camp during your first pregnancy' is seen as a bit PFB on here. And actually there are a few herbal teas to avoid.
