Hello,

I’m only half way through this pregnancy and the heartburn is constant. I didn't have this with DD1! Any tips that worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance 😊

Multiple dc. The only thing that ever worked were the orange Rennies.. No other variety / brand!

Saltywalruss · 26/10/2022 17:03

Not sure if it's a "hack" but have you tried things like Gaviscon and Rennie?

romdowa · 26/10/2022 17:07

Losec prescribed by my Dr. Nothing else touched it.

morninginging · 26/10/2022 17:08

Peptac on prescription - or gaviscon advance (has to be advance as it has a different mode of action to the others)....

Tezco · 26/10/2022 17:08

Milk helped me! I think I ended up drinking too much of it though but it did help.

You can also take gaviscon/rennies or a dr can proscribe a stronger alternative

AlisonDonut · 26/10/2022 17:09

Maybe take some things designed to ease the heartburn?

Are we now calling 'doing what it says on the packet' a hack?

Danikm151 · 26/10/2022 17:09

Rennies are the only thing that worked for me. Had to get the sugar free ones because of gestational diabetes otherwise i’d have gone with generic ones!

wishihadagoodone · 26/10/2022 17:09

Love Heart sweets helped me.
Terrible for your teeth though

Calphurnia · 26/10/2022 17:11

Chocolate soya milk

Then omeprazole washed down with Gaviscon tbh

BeanieTeen · 26/10/2022 17:12

Rennies helped more than gaviscon for me. Some foods aggravate it more than others but I think it varies from person to person.

Did you ever have the sweeties “refreshers” as a kid? They are kind of fizzy? Well they are amazing for heart burn! You get a pack of 5 for £3.70 on Amazon. If not then ask your MW for omeprazole

The Barrett's ones or the chewy swizzles ones?

AliceMcK · 26/10/2022 17:27

My midwife gave me a prescription, but can’t remember what for.

Other things I did was avoid certain foods and drinks, anything with acid, I like dried cranberries in my cereal, they were the worse for me, it was even worse when I’d have a glass of water afterwards. I avoided mashed potatoes, sugary drinks, fizzy pop etc.. I didn’t cut everything out just those main things and reduced intake on things like tomatoes.

I think milk was recommended, it also helped my leg cramps to. I was told to put honey in it but wasn’t a fan of honey so just drank it plain.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! Been trying different types of rennie/gaviscon but, will give some of the other suggestions a go 😊

Omeprazole on prescription was a miracle cure for me. I went from constant heartburn to none within a few hours, no matter what I ate or drank

What mg omeprazole is it? I have some in my cupboard that was prescribed to be taken alongside a strong painkiller but if it's the same strength I'm going to start taking it. 35 weeks and struggling here 😩

TimeforZeroes · 26/10/2022 23:36

Oh my gosh it’s awful!!! My only consolation is that I’m being induced tomorrow because the last trimester of this has been unbearable and right now it’s making my eyes water and I’ve barely eaten tonight.

DaffodilSunshine · 27/10/2022 07:04

@rickandmorts 20mg once daily

DifficultBloodyWoman · 27/10/2022 07:07

Rennies was the only thing that worked for along with cutting out anything acidic. It was just easier to take the Rennies.

Saltywalruss · 27/10/2022 08:11

I don't think you are meant to combine these, do check to make sure.

WolverineBlueyy · 27/10/2022 08:15

It used to make me laugh how I was chucking a couple of industrial sized bottles of gaviscon into the recycling every week instead of wine Grin. I did get something on prescription but it was a bit of a faff. Saved a fortune though.

Thanks a lot!

Swissmummy15 · 27/10/2022 18:36

Another vote for milk! First pregnancy in the middle of Covid lock down…lots of virtual drinks…I always had an exciting glass of milk in front of me!

Crimsonripple · 27/10/2022 18:37

Omeprazole prescription. 20mg did the trick.

Parmesam · 27/10/2022 18:51

Maybe look at diet. Look for the triggers. Do you get an attack after eating anything spicy, or flour-based, or chocolate-y or with a high fat content? I have suffered during and ever since I was pregnant 16 years ago. Pepperoni pizza and raw onions kill me off. I love pepperoni pizza 😭.
