Hello! Amazon is a very well trusted website and most big suppliers sell on there so don't worry. For iron I'd recommend liquid floridix or spatone, both very good quality and won't cause constipation. You don't need iron unless you are deficient but it won't hurt to take a supplement either and may prevent deficiency. I got anemic in my last pregnancy which wasn't fun so took iron from there! If you have a veggie or vegan diet you're more at risk of being low in iron.
Re probiotics, I take biokult candea, they're for women and v good.

All these avail on Amazon. Read the reviews if worried!

I had an anterior placenta with my last pregnancy too, it's nothing to worry about but can cause movements to be a bit less intense 😊

Dyra · 25/10/2022 16:38

So long as it isn't low, an anterior placenta is just a variant of normal. It should have been on your notes at your 20 week scan. Sonographer should really have mentioned it, but evidently didn't.

Tbh, it doesn't change much for you. As you've already found, it can make movements difficult to detect. There's a higher likelihood of baby being back to back later on in pregnancy. Can also make the heartbeat difficult to detect by Doppler, but midwives will have tricks to find it. My most recent pregnancy had an anterior placenta and had all 3. Baby is 7 months and all good.

As for the extras, as PP stated, you don't need extra iron unless your blood results indicate you do, for which you really should be given a prescription. I didn't take anything other than higher dose folic acid and vitamin D (am fat) on top of a pregnancy vitamin. Was never told to take anything more than that. If you're not happy getting stuff online, I'm sure they will be available in Boots or Superdrug.

I have an anterior placenta and wasn’t told at my 20wk scan either. I found out when I went to the hospital after reduced movements, so found out by chance.

IMO, anywhere where baby clothes are sold!

Personally, for nearly nice, high quality baby stuff, I go to Next, John Lewis, and Marks & Spencer. But since, for the first year at least, they grow out of everything so fast, I tend to bulk out their wardrobe with cheaper stuff (though still nice!) from supermarkets. So Sainsbury's and Tesco. I've even picked up some stuff from Poundland!

Dyra · 25/10/2022 21:21

Nearly = Really. 🤔 Not sure what happened there.

KSAM · 25/10/2022 21:47

Anterior placenta is a variant of normal and nothing to worry about, I had an anterior placenta with my first and my current pregnancy.

No the NHS won't pay for your general pregnancy vitamins. If you don't want to buy from amazon there are plenty of shops or chemists to buy from.

miyuv · 26/10/2022 01:35

thanks again, you have put my mind at ease regarding anterior placenta.

about baby cloth shopping though, bit confused. Mid wife gave a me a list with things to buy, so I want to buy all of them and of good quality given first precious baby after 7 years of trying and pack the suitcase ready for go...:)-

any recommendation on how to go about this, pls do share as I am clueless atm !!

Are you in the UK?
Go to a big supermarket with clothing section like Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, and browse the clothes sections there. Pick up some newborn and 1-3 month sized.clothing. You'll need 100% cotton stuff as that's best for baby when small. Get some warmer jumpers and snow suits too if due in winter.
Get short and long sleeved baby grows, sleep suits, leggings, socks and scratch mits. And a hat or two!
If you are still unsure just speak to your midwife but as a general rule of thumb get stuff that is 100% cotton or wool as this is breathable and helps them regulate their temperature
This also applies to bedding - blankets and sheets etc.

Skylark1990 · 26/10/2022 09:12

You can also buy online eg h&m, m&s, Sainsbury's.

miyuv · 26/10/2022 21:53

thanks again, yes I am in the UK and went to Mammas and Pappas today, but not a lof of choices..certainly could not find a suitcase/bag to have all the things for the labour.

also found out Mothercare is no longer in business which was a shocker and no one has really replaced them for 3 years which is even more shocking....

surely, baby / maternity is a big viable business?

anyway, got bigger things to worry as not felt baby move at all today - may be it is tbaby is behind the anterior placenta again. is there any safe tricks to get the baby to move so that I can feel he is ok without going again to hospital?

thanks

Tbh ever since the advent of online shopping, a lot of places put everything online. While it is a big business, it's not a growing one. What with the birth rate shrinking and all. Never mind the high street rapidly dying off as well. Mothercare is now owned by Boots, but it's not as good now.

If you're looking for big ticket baby items (pram, car seat, cot etc.), then John Lewis and Smyths (toy store) have prams on display you can try out. There may be independent retailers in your area, but you'll have to do a search for them. Finally, there's always the Baby & Toddler Show that tours around the country. The next one is in Birmingham at the NEC. I went in 2019. You have to pay to get in, but there was so much stuff to look at and try. Well worth it. We also bought most of our big ticket items there too.

As others have suggested supermarkets are good for baby clothes as well as places like John Lewis, H&M, M&S, Gap.

For your hospital bag you could look on Amazon for a ‘weekend bag’ or ‘holdall’. Could also look on ASOS.

As for movements - Have a cold drink, fizzy or sugary, and maybe something to eat and then lay on your left side and see if you can feel any movements internal or by placing you hand on your belly. If you call the hospital they may suggest this and to count how many movements you feel in 60 minutes. Also seen others suggest to play music from your phone near your belly as that might get baby moving. I am 26w with an anterior placenta and some days I feel less movements. I hadn’t felt much in the last 24hr but done as suggested this afternoon and felt lots of movements.

I only took pregnacare plus (the ones that also come with omega 3). If all your nutrient/vitamin levels are normal you shouldn't need to take a supplement.

Probiotics may be good though.

If you're iron deficient the gp can prescribe tablets. I had mine prescribed and I didn't even have to ask.

Bumbles78 · 26/10/2022 23:17

Please call your hospital about no movements. Regardless of an anterior placenta you should always get it checked out.

Hi @OrcaBlondie , think we both are pregant the same number of weeks and issues, is there any common thread for those with same due date, if not shall we set up one.

think it would be good to share concerns while on this journey..

Hi @miyuv there is normally a thread called due and then the month you are due. I am due in January 2023 but haven’t been using a thread. If you have Facebook there are private groups for each month due date so have a search

how are you getting on?

OrcaBlondie · 12/11/2022 09:19

@miyuv for if you are due in Jan
