DS due at beginning of march, what sort of coat is appropriate for that time of year? Surely won't be necessary to have one of these big fleecey all in one jobbies??

due the 1st by my dates, the 5th by scan dates.

You're right snappy anything I buy in advance will go unused.

DS1 was a summer baby so all he wore for 3 months was sleeveless vests, twas a fab and cheap time

I had snowsuits for mine (both born in March), bought by my MOm, but went unused. They were just in a fleecy jacket with the cosy toes and blankets if needed.
March is a lovely time to have a baby (it is the only time I have "produced tho, so no expert!), I would have panicked if it was too hot/too cold. Awww, feeling broody now!
Good luck and Congrats

You will have the whole of March and most of April before it gets a bit warmer.

Depends on how much you are going to be out for walks. If it is just between house and car/shops then you could get away with a warm fleece jumper and a blanket. There are really good ones for the car. Will look and see if I can find a link

ds came at the end january.

tbh I didnt dress him in anything more than a sleepsuit and cardis in the first month or so. When we went out, I put a hat on him and covered him in (many) layers of blankets. then you can take them off when you come in without waking him, and without being paranoid about overheating.

there was no way I was going to get him into a snowsuit or coat!!

Am planning on using a sling a lot this time so don't want him to over heat.

Have got a couple of chunky knitted cardigans from ds1 that he never got to use as it was soooo hot. One of them is quite padded so will see if that will suffice.

Something like this blanket

I like that the blanket will stay put, and that you can open it up when you go inside.

For some reason I'm having a crash of confidence about this one which I never had with my PFB oddly enough.

ive got a few cardigans and a fleecy pram suit which is quite thin but i can add blankets. dd1 was an early march baby and we used a fleece pram suit.

I never know what to get for the best. I bought ds 2 a smnowsuit and a jacket when he was born in Sept, plus my sis bought him a snowsuit too. I catch the bus and walk a lot, but to be fair the weather has been do mild that a jacket would be enough with blankets, cosy toes etc.

He has grown out of all of these and i have since bought another snowsuit and coat, both of which hardly fit! Thats 5 coats in 5 mths!! Im so cross. So i need to get something else! i would be tempted to say that a coat would be enough, but as we havent had any really freezing weather yet, im sure we must be due some!

If you are mainly in a car, id say thick cardi jacket type thing or jacket, not snowsuit.

Where do you live? My dd was born in early April last year. We live in London and it was HOT!! I got by just fine with a couple of woolie cardigans with hoods and some blankets for her pram. I suspect that anything else would be a bit of a waste of money because you wouldn't use it.

The Small Dragons wore cardigans mainly (easier than a jumper) a hat and layers of blankets. BabyDragon (a sling baby) wore a fluffy fleece jacket and a hat.

Mine just wore soft jackets with hoods
like this

I had snowsuits for both but never used them

ooh, kindersurprises blanket link looks great.

if you are wearing in sling, is it one of those 'close to the body' ones, or a bjorn type one? coz if they are close in to your bod, they wont need much on or they (and you!) will over heat.

blankets, even draped over/around a sling are great b/c of their on/off ability without disturbing any sleep they might be getting

The blanket link does look fab actually.

I've got a pouch sling so I would imagine baby will be quite snug and warm in there.

I just noticed that the blanket that I linked to is a US company.

That is such a good idea though, I am sure that there is a UK company doing the same thing. If not, then it would be a great business opportunity

BabyDragon was toasty warm (but not too warm!) with a jacket/hat in the fleece pouch sling. Your own body warmth helps.

My DS1 was born mid March and it was snowing when we left the hospital.

He had a babygrow, thinish fleece snow suit and a blanket wrapped round him, plus hat.

Haven't bought any hats yet. DS had a ridiculously large head so i'm not sure what sizes to get

my dd was born in march last year. having been nild all feb, it snowed when she was born. and there were no winter coats left in the local shops. so she wore two fleeces and a blanket when out in the buggy until we'd got a coat delivered.
