5 weeks and got brown discharge

I’m approximately 5 weeks and a couple of days pregnant. I have previously miscarried in 2020 and had bright red bleeding with that pregnancy from week 4 until I miscarried at week 6. I’ve had 2 failed ivf cycles too so understandably quite anxious.
I had slight pink discharge last week and since yesterday noted the discharge in photos intermittently. I did start progesterone supplements due to my previous history 2 days ago. I’m having occasional cramping but had that since I found I was pregnant. Still having reflux. Boobs soreness was a bit less earlier but back now.

Should I be worried? Getting anxious if my pregnancy symptoms now are due to progesterone supplements.

Hiya, I'm only 6.4 weeks and I've had a previous mc.
With this pregnancy I've had some brown discharge like this on week 5 and had on and off yellow discharge from week 4. Didn't have any of this with the pregnancy I mc.
Epu said that it's probably implantation spotting! They didn't seem too concerned at all.
I totally understand your anxiety though, it's such a scary time xx

PB6 · 19/10/2022 15:04

Thanks! I am hoping it’s just that! Not sure if to ring the gp tomorrow if it’s not settled to just run it past epu

Hi @PB6

Mind was IVF pregnancy and I was on progesterone suppositories from the day of egg collection till week 12. I started having brown spotting when I was approximately 8 weeks (a bit similar to yours - I made a topic about it here) till week 16. I had a few scans done due to the spotting and was told it’s very normal to have that kind of spotting when you’re on progesterone.

All the best ❤️

Northtosouth · 19/10/2022 15:58

I had brown spotting at 6 weeks and 8 weeks. Also an IVF pregnancy and on progesterone, my IVF clinic did a scan at 6 and 7 weeks and everything was fine. I also spoke to midwife and she wasn’t concerned she said to get in touch if it’s red but brown is old blood and not fresh.

Musicaltheatremum · 19/10/2022 16:10

I had more than this in both pregnancies. They're now 27 and 29. Fingers crossed for you.

PB6 · 19/10/2022 16:41

That is reassuring to know. This was surprise natural pregnancy and my old fertility consultant suggested to go onto the progesterone supplements but then has left me to my own devices. I’m just using the stuff I have left over from previous cycles. Don’t have midwife appointment until mid Nov. Worth speaking to Epu if it continues?
congratulations to you!

I had this at 5 weeks. I'm now 31 weeks!

Northtosouth · 19/10/2022 17:08

I’d definitely speak to the EPU if it continues to put your mind at ease.

CSR721 · 19/10/2022 17:44

I had this around 5w lasted a few days and deff more than in your photo. I then had it again around 18w or so, again lasted a few days, midwives weren't worried. I'm 37w now and nothing since and all healthy so far. Good luck 💕

PB6 · 19/10/2022 20:30

@Chanel05 and @CSR721 congratulations to both of you! Thanks that helps!
@Northtosouth I might do, annoyingly my local epu needs GP referral only!

I had this around week 6 and all was fine (my LO is being cuddled by her dad as I type). TMI but for me it was caused by going for a poop. Apparently that, along with other things like walking, lifting etc, can cause old blood (brown spotting) to occur. I panicked as it was a natural pregnancy after failed IVF, but my Dr organised an appointment at the EPU where I had a scan. Hoping everything goes well for you.

PB6 · 20/10/2022 10:10

@Blossom45 congratulations to you. I have been going on regular walks and done light pregnancy yoga as didn’t want to risk doing my usual cardio routines. Wonder if it could be that.

Discharge settled yesterday and then got brown discharge again today. Got an EPU appointment next week as I’ll be just over 6 weeks then. @Blossom45 and @CSR721 was yours on and off?

@PB6 mine was pretty consistent over about 5 days it just tapered off in the end, it was almost like my period was trying to start but then gave up 😂 if that makes sense. But midwife said brown blood I'd old blood, so usually nothing to worry about unless it turns red. She said it was probably old period blood that had worked its way out due to exercise or sex. Glad they're checking you though, will give you some peace of mind 💕

Blossom45 · 21/10/2022 13:26

Mine was two separate occasions, a day apart. I was lucky as I got an EPU scan the next day as I was already around 6 weeks. But as @CSR721 said, the midwife and doctor also told me that brown blood is old blood and usually not something to worry about. I hope your scan goes well x

PB6 · 21/10/2022 14:20

@Blossom45 and @CSR721 thanks guys. I hope that’s the case.

I am 5 weeks and have had brown discharge for over a week….feel like im bothering the docs but think im going to have a call. Over a week seems a long time but too early to scan. Not sure what they could do?!

any thoughts? Experiences? Ideas?

cherrybakewell24 · 23/10/2022 21:14

Had this and more between 5-12 weeks then again at 20 with both mine, they're now 2 and 3 and sleeping upstairs

PB6 · 23/10/2022 22:00

I’ve just had a teaspoon of bright red blood now..now I’m scared!
tried ringing epu and they said call back in the morning. So worried as I’m less refluxy today which I have been throughout 😭😭😭

CSR721 · 24/10/2022 08:15

@PB6 hope you're OK this morning, let us know how you get on 💕

PB6 · 24/10/2022 13:39

@CSR721 they just examined today and said my cervix was closed and bit of old blood there. Have scan appointment tomorrow. Just really keeping my fingers crossed

Kayycatt · 24/10/2022 19:32

@PB6 hope the scan goes well for you tomorrow!

I started having brown discharge last night and it's turned red today. Not a lot but enough to stain the pantyliner.

I am 5+4 according to the app. This is my first and I am 39. So very worried... but don't think there's anything I can do but to wait.

PB6 · 24/10/2022 21:59

@Kayycatt
its so hard isn’t it? There’s literally nothing you can do. Feeling quite anxious.
I’m even more worried due to my previous history

H1994 · 24/10/2022 22:02

@PPB6 I've had some spotting today too, I'm 11+1 and am being scanned tomorrow. Fingers crossed all is well for you, you're not alone with the anxiety, it's a very uncertain time so allow yourself to feel however you need 🤞🏼🌟❤️

Kayycatt · 24/10/2022 22:30

@PB6 it is hard indeed. Just when you thought getting pregnant was the difficult part, didn't realise that was just the beginning. First of many hurdles.

I did read somewhere that a study found only around 12% of women who experience light bleeding in their first trimester go on and experience a miscarriage.

Fingers crossed for us all to be in the 88%!
