TTC after D&C

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice or have had a similar experience? I feel like I'm going out of my mind TTC and cant seem to find the answers I need. My husband and I got married in Feb 2022 and started ttc straight away. I fell pregnant the following month and we were so excited. Unfortunately I miscarried at 7 weeks and even though it was devasting I wanted to start trying again straight away. My miscarriage went on for over 6 weeks as I couldn't pass all of the pregnancy tissue. Long story short I ended up going to a&e one night and was booked in for a D&C the following day. After I had the D&C my next 3 periods were almost non-existent! Very very light and no 'fresh' looking blood (sorry tmi) I went to the doctors and they explained that my lining was just taking some time to build back up. Since then I've had another 4 cycles with what I would call "normal-ish" periods but they have been a bit slimier than before (again, sorry for the details!) There has also been no luck with falling pregnant. Its really getting me down. I think because I fell so quickly the first time I thought it would be the same again. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm so worried my body isn't how it used to be and something is stopping me from falling pregnant again. Is it worth me going back to the doctors or am I overreacting?

It sounds like your body is recovering and getting back to normal, but maybe slower than you’d like. I don’t know if there is anything doctors can do.

you could take a pro conceive multivitamin (make sure it includes folate and vit D) and try to de stress.

Could ask the gp if baby aspirin and NAC could help you too (it’s sometimes given for recurrent miscarriages and while that is not your case, it might still help?) there’s lots of studies about it too if you search.

Holidays are coming soon and maybe by that time you’re body is going to be fully ready and you’ll be relaxed and conceive again. Good luck.

Hummingbird93 · 11/10/2022 14:00

Thank you, I'll definitely look into those suggestions and i think you're right, I'm sure the holidays will help me destress :)

I was pretty similar. We started ttc in late January this year. Concieved first cycle. Found out at 9 weeks that it had ended (stopped growing at 6 weeks), the miscarriage then went on for 5 weeks, technically 7 weeks since the first two was waiting to miscarry. It ended up incomplete in May and had ERPC in late May.

My June and July periods were very very light, and lasted 2-3 days. By day three I would say it’s spotting and didn’t even need a pad. I thought something was wrong after June period so I started measuring opk and bbt, I ovulated in July even if the period was minimal.

We concieved again in August, and are now 10 weeks. It’s still early days so I’m still expecting it to go wrong but we managed to conceive again at least. So keep hope that it can happen.

Hummingbird93 · 11/10/2022 21:23

thank you so much for your message and I’m so sorry for your loss.

You’re the first person I’ve heard of who’s had such a similar experience! It’s nice to feel like I’m not alone! I was exactly like you with my periods and hardly needed a pad at all!

you’ve given my lots of hope for the next few months and that we will hopefully fall pregnancy again soon!

Congratulations on your pregnancy and wishing you all the luck in the world! :) x

Hello lovely, sorry for your loss ♥️ I had a mmc in June and for the next 3 my periods have been much lighter and longer. Like you say, at points barely needing a pad - which is really unlike my usual cycle. I know my body will need time but when you Google it makes it seem like things spring back much quicker. I’m comforted to know that it’s not just me and that maybe this is normal, but sad that that is the case too! Currently on month 4 of ttc again and in the midst of the tww. Sending baby dust ♥️

Hummingbird93 · 22/10/2022 17:04

Hi @Babydustmamma

I am so so sorry for your loss and that your body is taking some time to get back to “normal cycles”. I completely understand the frustration and my heart goes out to you ❤️

We were so desperate to start trying again after the miscarriage but I just felt like my body wasn’t allowing me to which made everything worse! I seem to be having more normal periods now so I’m hoping for some good news soon.

Im so sorry for not responding sooner I’ve been away on holiday and hoping a bit of relaxation will help with TTC this month! Sending you lots of baby dust too! ❤️ Xxx

Awwh that’s alright! Glad that you’ve been relaxing and thank you for your kind words!

having gone over your first message again I just whole heartedly agree with the worry that the miscarriage has altered my body. I got pregnant on the first month both times, second ended with mmc. It’s been four months now and so I can’t help but feeling like taking this long is weird considering the last two were so quick?

I used the Mira fertility gadget with the last cycle and saw that my progesterone was quite low, along with my oestrogen. It feels like my body has just shut up shop at the moment 😅

hope that you’re feeling more positive since your last post or that you’ve found some answers but completely feel and relate to you if you’ve not ♥️ So good to be able to connect with people going through something similar as it feels like everyone I know finds it tough to talk about as they’re worried they’ll say the wrong thing x

Blue2020 · 22/10/2022 20:59

@Hummingbird93 @Babydustmamma I wish you both luck with ttc and hope you get good news soon.

Also it’s positive that your periods have started to return to normal.

I had that worry of ‘what if the surgery, or prolonged miscarriage has affected my uterus’ or something. Each scan through the miscarriage I would hear odd phrases ‘traces of fluid in the pod’, ‘funny shaped uterus’. I was like ‘huh?’.

Hummingbird93 · 24/10/2022 14:53

@Babydustmamma Thank you so much for your kinds words. I do completely understand how it feels when your body has just stopped doing what its meant to do, especially when it happened so quickly the first time.

A friend of mine recommended fertility lube which we have used this month and im keeping everything crossed! Currently in the TWW which always feels like forever!!

Its interesting that you mentioned progesterone as that has been on my mind. If I have no luck this month I may look into that and speak to someone about some further tests. I always worry I'm just being too impatient but i just feel like something is wrong or has changed since the D&C.

It's really really helps to talk to other people on here as like you say, makes us feel less alone. Keeping everything crossed for you as well! xx

Ahhhh how far in are you? It’s torture to wait isn’t it! My period has started so that’s 4 cycles down and into a new one ♥️ Hopefully luck next month.

eaaak that’s exciting! What was the name of the lube?

im keeping my fingers crossed for you!🎉🌈

Hummingbird93 · 26/10/2022 09:36

@Babydustmamma Thank you so much! I'm officially one week into the TTW. I'm trying my best not to look for symptoms etc as I've done that the past 2 months and have been so disappointed when i got a BFN.

The lube we have used is called conceive plus, it comes in individual tubes which I found really handy. A friend of mine used it after several months of ttc and it helped her straight away. Could have been a coincidence but after reading a few more reviews we decided to give it a go! Keeping everything crossed!

Sending you lots of baby dust for your next cycle! xxx

@Hummingbird93 I’ve used that lube too, I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not, but the first time we tried we got pregnant on the second month. Apart from the lube we both took some conceive vitamins for a few months prior (there are some specific for men to improve sperm quality). I was 38 when I gave birth.

second time, 42 now, tried for 9 months, nothing. Both took the vitamins as well.

I thought maybe it was not meant to happen, but suddenly remembered about the gel, bought it and got pregnant the following month! :))

so maybe it works?

sending lots of baby dust to you all 🐣

CristinaNov182 · 26/10/2022 11:40

From what I’ve read it works by giving a boost to the sperm, so if the sperm needs it or even if it doesn’t, some boost won’t hurt :)

Chanel05 · 26/10/2022 13:05

Sorry for your loss @Hummingbird93

After my surgical management, my cycles were all over the place until I conceived again 8 months later.

Unfortunately, the time it takes to conceive a pregnancy has no bearing on how long it takes to conceive another. You just reset the clock of it taking up to 12 months and that's normal. I really do understand the desperation.

Babydustmamma · 26/10/2022 14:44

Thank you everyone! I really do appreciate you sharing your experiences as it’s reassuring that it’s not just a set time that I’ve surpassed etc! I guess I just need to try and forgive and trust my body again! Not easy after going through what we’ve been through! So good to have a community to share thoughts are fears on ♥️

oooh definitely gunna try the new lube!!!! Sending luck with everyone trying it 😍

Hummingbird93 · 31/10/2022 10:05

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share some news with you all that i got a BFP yesterday at 9/10dpo!! So I would 100% recommend the conceive plus lube lol! It may just be a coincidence but I believe it definitely helped. I am still so so worried about something going wrong as i feel like I've found out too early! Hopefully I am just over thinking and hoping to see that second line get darker over the next few days! Thank you for everyone's lovely messages on this thread so far! xx

Placebo, coincidence or actual help, it’s worth trying :)

@Hummingbird93 what lovely news ♥️

Xdfingersttc · 20/01/2023 08:07

Hi, sorry to jump in to an old thread but had a D&C in November after 3 previous miscarriages & my last 2 periods have been so so light, mainly dark brown & stringy (sorry for TMI) rather than my usual period. Looking for successful stories for those who have conceived & got their rainbow babies. Feel so sad about the thought it might not happen for us. Any advice welcome!

Babydustmamma · 20/01/2023 11:26

@Xdfingersttc so sorry about your loss lovely ♥️ I am currently 8 weeks pregnant with 🌈 baby. It took me 6 months ttc, and my periods were completely altered after the mmc - very light and much longer than usual. I was so worried something had permanently changed but fingers crossed it sticks xxx sending lots of love x

Xdfingersttc · 20/01/2023 11:35

Congratulations! Thank you for replying. Did you do anything different? Im worried in taking too many supplements etc. So hard to know what is best to do😕

Hummingbird93 · 20/01/2023 11:46

Hi @Xdfingersttc

I'm so so sorry for your loss, I cant imagine how hard that's been for you. I hope that I can reassure you that your body will definitely go back to normal! My periods were so light for 3 months after my D&C and only ever had brown/stringy blood and they eventually went back to more fresh looking blood on month 4. We were TTC every month and had no luck, hence why I started this thread but on month 7 after the D&C we finally conceived! I'm now 16 weeks pregnant and find out what we are having tomorrow! :) I would also definitely recommend the conceive plus lube, its worked for so many of my friends and we conceived after the first month of using it. Maybe a coincidence but worth a go! Sending you all the luck in the worlds! xxx

Babydustmamma · 20/01/2023 14:32

@Xdfingersttc i started taking coq10, soy isoflavones (before ovulating), and vitex after ovulating ♥️ really helped with my luteal phase x
