Our first day home my DS spent most of it lying on his Nana's lap tummy down whilst me, DH and Pa all slept. Poor Nana had to wake us up so she could go pee!!!

My LO also loves his naked time, screamed for first few weeks at nappy change now stops screaming at nappy change

DS (3 weeks) spends his time split between moses basket (asleep) our lap on a pillow / cushion when in front of the TV or computer (asleep and awake) our arms (asleep and awake), a sheepskin rug (got it from Ikea - awake for kickabout time/tummy time) and this rocker - would highly recommend it

Will depend on your baby.
My dd loved being in a sling with me as much as possible, but ds hated the constriction and his favourite thing was on a baby mat under something to look at and would literally thrash his arms and legs about for ages.
You'll find out soon enough - they make it clear what they like!!

We had a nest that they didn't like and found that the bouncy chair was best (esp for Nos 2 and 3, so they weren't on the floor with brothers around).

Piffle · 26/01/2008 17:08

carry everywhere, buy a sling, tis the best thing ever

and/or keep a pram set up inside...

spugs · 27/01/2008 08:38

bouncy chair or basket, though what my toddler will make of baby in a chair that bounces should be interesting! might have to get a play pen

My ds didn't want to be "put" anywhere and spent the first 9 weeks permenantly attached to my boob. It was lovely having the luxury of just sitting around with my PFB. If I have any more, there will be none of that for them.

My dd (2 months old)likes to be mostly in a sling (we have 2 different kinds- a bjorn and a hug a bub)or in somebodies arms,
but if shes in the right mood she will sit in a playnest or car seat carrier thing for maybe 15 mins if you're lucky! which is longer than my ds at that age.My dd is a second child and seems a bit happier than ds is it a girl thing or a 2nd baby thing. Ds (5 years old) is great at entertaining so i think that helps sometimes.
Oh and naked kickabout time is popular too. Lol at kelmcd and the screaming funny that isn't it!

Was a bit sneery about those swing chairs with DS1, but then was lent one when DD came along. Absolute Godsend. Put her in it when we came down in the morning, turned her up to 'high' and got on with sorting breakfast etc... for DS. She was as happy as Larry. Try and get your baby used to lying on its own (but obv within earshot/eyeline of you) without being held all the time - if you can resist. You'll be glad later on when it means you can get on (a bit) with jobs. As they get older you need dangly things to occupy them, and alternate lying on the floor with inflatable nest, car seat, doorframe swing, crib, buggy, Grandma, next-door neighbour, older kids...... Oh, and both mine loved watching the tumble dryer go round!

sling, I had a bouncy chair but I found dd was a bit to small for it at first (she was a normal birth weight 6.7) she didn't look secure enough.
