Anyone flown with Ryanair whilst pregnant?

I’m flying with Ryanair next week, coming back when 28 weeks, and trying to get my gp to fill out the fit to fly form in time- they can’t guarantee they can do it yet however- and I fly on Wednesday!
my question is whether I should pay for a private fit to fly letter, and whether Ryanair will accept this, rather than their own form? If anyone has experience of giving them a letter instead of the form that would be great!

Hello, i went to visit my family abroad when i was 30 weeks and flew back to the UK when i was 32 weeks pregnant. My fit to fly letter was signed by my midwife, i remember she asked me to google it and get one from these then give it to her si that she can just sign. No one at the airport or on the plane asked to see it though! That was 2 years ago.

I flew recently with Ryanair when I have been +28 weeks pregnant. Both times the midwife rather than the doctor did the fit to fly letter as it was easier to get an appointment. We printed off the letter on Ryanair's website.

No one asked to see the letter though at the airport or on the flight.

Hi sorry to jump on the thread OP. I am also travelling with Ryanair on Saturday at 31 weeks pregnant. My midwife filled in the downloadable form from Ryanair but I have just realised that in the box marked 'drs stamp' she has just written the name of the hospital in biro. I'm worried that they won't accept this as anyone could have filled in the form. Did anyone else's midwife not stamp it properly? I'm guessing she doesn't actually have a stamp like the GP. Thanks

Mine was stamped with the practice details and then she signed it as well I think.

I flew with ryanair from Liverpool in July, I was 32 weeks. They did ask to see the fit to fly but didn't scrutinise it. However, on the way home it wasn't asked for.

BlueBunny23 · 02/09/2022 07:27

Iv just flew with tui at 33 weeks and nobody asked to see my letter then I stressed over getting so much!!!! I also flew at 28 weeks with Ryan air and again nobody asked to see my letter but I didn’t have one anwyays and I planned to lie about my dates if I had of been asked

feathersandslats · 02/09/2022 08:32

Flew with them at 32 weeks and like pp nobody asked to see my letter!

autumnleavesbythewindow · 02/09/2022 08:42

Get a private one yes. And also wear a baggy top, coat open, plus scarf and chances are they wont even notice at boarding, they are really busy. Ryanair didn't check mine at 32 weeks.

BTVWX · 03/09/2022 09:18

A GP at my surgery kindly stamped it for me yesterday so I shall let you know how we get on OP

Frazzled2207 · 03/09/2022 09:20

It was ages ago but I wore baggy clothes and nobody said or checked anything

BTVWX · 04/09/2022 10:39

Nobody even asked to see it. I did check at the bag drop off but the person said I would only need it in Spain. I think she thought it was the NHS vaccine certificate!
I am very obviously pregnant I definitely wouldn't have been able to hide it. I'll let you know how I get on with the return journey OP.

Supersair · 04/09/2022 22:32

Thanks all for your messages, hopefully GP will come through for me tomorrow, but will just get a private letter to be safe if not, and will let you know how we get on!

Hi
I am flying with Ryanair next week and I will be 30 weeks. I was reading these comments and just want to know if the fit to fly letter needs to be the one provided by Ryanair or could be any. Unfortunately, my GP and Midwife are not able to provide me any fit to fly letter. They say that this is the instruction they have from their legal department. So I will need to request this private.
I found some options but I believe they do their own letter. Does this make a difference?
Thanks

BTVWX · 22/04/2023 09:11

Hi I had a gp sign the one I printed off from ryanair. Your practice will probably do this privately.
I would definitely get it done as when I travelled they didn't request it on the way out but did on the way back.

FBT · 25/04/2023 01:37

Thanks for the comment.
I will try again my Practice to see if they can do it privately using this exact form.
If not, I will request one privately that I found in Google but unfortunately does not use Ryanair template.

I have been having a problem getting a fit to fly letter, flying at 32 weeks on Sunday with Ryan air. My midwife can’t sign anymore, my GP point blank refused even with my midwife calling to argue with them but in the end I had the form from the website signed by my consultant at the maternity hospital. She stamped it with the hospital details, I’m hoping this will be good enough! Definitely try your consultant at the hospital if you’re having trouble.

Hi OP - just on a personal experience - i flew with Ryan air, out at 27+4 and back at 28+4 - didn’t get the fit to fly letter on time due to GP and midwife saying it wasn’t necessary before 32 weeks (true for most other airlines). My plan was just to say I was 26/27 weeks if asked. Absolutely no one asked or acknowledged that I was pregnant during either flight! I’m not even sure at what point I would have provided a fit to fly letter to be honest. My travel insurance were aware of the pregnancy and flying, so it wouldn’t have caused any issue that way.

FBT · 25/04/2023 12:05

Thanks for your reply @Supersair But I currently do not have a consultant. Probably because my pregnancy is low risk.
So the only options I have to ask are: GP, midwife or request privately.
I don’t have issues with doing it privately, but I just wanted to know if Ryanair accepts any type of letter or if it needs to be their exactly form.

Trezt · 10/05/2023 15:47

Hiya @Supersair just wondering how you got on in the end?
I’m in a situation where no one will stamp or do a fit to fly letter, asked midwife, doctors and consultant. Very frustrating.
Does Ryanair take a private letter (seen a company called Zoomdoc that do it or do I need the Ryanair form?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/05/2023 15:50

Just tell them you are 24 weeks. What they gonna do? Scan and date you?

BertieBotts · 10/05/2023 15:55

I did, I think I took my own letter (German doctor) I don't remember there being an issue, but it was 5 years ago and I might have forgotten.

I don't remember being asked to show it.

Trezt · 10/05/2023 19:20

I have a friend who was flying to Ireland when she was 27 weeks and they stopped her and wanted fit to fly but she said she was 27 weeks not 28 weeks and they still wanted proof of that and wouldn’t let her fly as she didn’t have any notes on her at the time

Diamondbabe · 10/05/2023 19:29

I just flew with Ryanair yesterday I'm 30 weeks Sunday. Didn't even know you were meant to do this! No one asked me or cared so that was lucky ha

FBT · 11/05/2023 07:59

@Trezt I used the zoomdoc. They were really helpful. You can also pay extra to get the exact ryanair form to be completed and stamped. I have done all that and at the end, Ryanair didn’t request to see the forms.
When I was boarding, one staff asked me how many weeks I was. I told 31 weeks and she just let me go. Altought I had everything with me, I didn’t show to anyone.
I think it is kind of luck. If you want to travel with no worries, just pay one at least you know you will go.
