7w3d, all day nausea, vomiting on and off throughout the day and getting up in the night to vomit as well. I’m totally miserable and need somewhere to vent. Does anyone want to join me? ☹️

3w+5 today and the nausea is awful. It starts at about dinner time so I struggle to eat, keeps me awake or wakes me up in the night then lasts right through til lunch. It's 3.25 now and still going strong today. I've had nausea since 7dpo although fortunately never been sick. It just feels like a horrendous hangover and I'm constantly shattered because I'm not sleeping. Have you found anything that helps settle it a little? My sister had a little nausea and said she ate her way through it but I can't face eating at all and have already lost 2lb in a week.

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2022 15:27

Me please! We’ve already spoken on another thread. I’m yet to be sick but absolutely constant nausea which is just soul-destroying. Can’t go in the kitchen, have to force myself to eat, gagging.

I also get really dizzy when I stand up and get black spots in front of my eyes.

turquoise1988 · 27/08/2022 15:35

Get yourself on the Pregnancy Sickness Support website. So supportive. They give lots of information about medications that are suitable to take and/or that come with a very low risk of complications. I know people hold off on meds because they are worried, but if you look into the stats, the risk truly is very low.

Better to be able to manage day to day on an anti-emetic!

I'm a Hyperemesis suffer. You have my sympathy. It truly is the worst.

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2022 15:39

I have already tried two different medications - at cost as I don’t have my maternity form yet. Neither have made any difference 😩

Emsinmonaco2022 · 27/08/2022 15:50

Hi! I'm the same - thank you for starting this post. I'm 6 weeks 4 days and have had constant nausea since week 4. I just started Cariban (today) and praying it works as my life is a living hell at the moment. I've got a 15 month old whose smell makes me sick and I can't stand her tantrums (literally, they make me sick). I wretch all day (nothing comes up as I'm not eating) and I'm crying from the sheer misery of it. I've had 2 miscarriages before so half of me feels this will end badly and what's the point.. if Cariban doesn't work I'm going to really freak out. I was worried about birth defects but it got to the point where I had to trust my doctors. X

So sorry to hear you’re all going through this as well, it’s torture. DH is picking me up some travel sickness wristbands from the shop so will report back on whether they work. I feel so low today. Really hope the meds work for you Em 💐

I hope they work for you 🤞🏻 nice to know we're in the same boat (writing boat made me 🤢) I really hit a low today x

Wouldloveanother · 27/08/2022 18:13

the only things I have found that help outside the usually advice are:

  1. lying on my back with one leg up on the back of the sofa
  2. Going into child’s pose (yoga)

ive put the wrist bands on and the sickness seems to have eased a bit but not sure if it’s a placebo effect.

god it’s depressing isn’t it?

Thanks for creating this @Wouldloveanother. I didn't have any nausea with my DS so this is such a new feeling for me to feel nausea everyday.

Perexi · 27/08/2022 18:50

It's kicking my arse the last few d

Perexi · 27/08/2022 18:52

Argh that posted too early!

Nausea is kicking my arse the last few days, just had to bail on my brother's birthday meal and feel so guilty as had to blame food poisoning as haven't told anyone.

turquoise1988 · 27/08/2022 19:32

@OttilieKnackered Can I ask what you've tried?

GPs tend to give Cyclizine or similar as a first line med. These can work for many women, but certainly don't even touch it for others.

TeddyBeans · 27/08/2022 19:44

@OttilieKnackered if you have the receipts you should be able to get a refund when your exemption certificate comes through. At least that's what my midwife told me

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2022 19:44

@turquoise1988 cyclizine was first and now something beginning with P. Too vommy to get up and look.

im starting to get really angry that there aren’t better remedies for this. Another example of women having to just put up with debilitating symptoms.

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2022 19:44

I wasn’t given receipts!

Wouldloveanother · 27/08/2022 19:53

I think the wristbands have helped - at least since having them on, they really seem to have taken the edge off. Got mine from Superdrug

@OttilieKnackered It will either be Prochlorperazine or Promethazine - again, both first line.

You need to get back in contact with the GP and ask to try a second line (like Metoclopramide) or ask for advice about taking medications in combination with each other. Sometimes it can take a while to find the ones that work for you, but you don't have to live like this.

I ended up on Ondansetron, which is a third line med often used to help sickness in chemotherapy patients. GPs are (still) hesitant to prescribe because it's expensive and there may be something else that works for you first.

I ended up in hospital before I was prescribed it though. I took Prochlorperazine, Metoclopramide and Ondansetron together.

I've also heard good things about Xonvea, a relatively new med, although there have been recently supply issues.

Obviously be aware that I am not an medical expert, but I do have experience of trying lots of different anti-emetics and going back and forth the GP countless times before I found something that worked.

I know it feels hopeless right now. It's awful. I hope you manage to find something that works for you!

Also, here is a useful link for anyone that may need it. I found the support invaluable and many women who have suffered badly are able to offer advice and guidance -

Thank you Turquoise!

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2022 20:30

@turquoise1988 thank you so much, that’s really helpful. My GP has been sympathetic but hasn’t said anything about first/second/third line treatements.

Wouldloveanother · 27/08/2022 21:47

How are you all this evening? After a bit of optimism that the sickness bands were doing something, the nausea came back and hit me light a freight train. The thought of living like this for another 6+ weeks actually scares me.

I woke up today feeling much better. Started to feel a bit nauseous and knowing hunger makes it worse, ate a sandwich. Now feel just as bad as yesterday again.

So glad you’re having a good day Ottilie. Have you done anything differently or just a bit of luck do you think?

I’m also having a much better day today. This morning was a bit rough but I dragged myself out for some fresh air which really helped, and have been generally trying to distract myself while eating little and often. I’ve even been able to do some housework which is great for me mentally as the house was a pig sty. DH has problems with his foot which have flared up again so he hasn’t been able to do much bar look after DD and our dog.

5 weeks 6 days pregnant and the nausea kicked in today for real so joining this thread. Shouldn’t be surprised, I had it from 5 weeks until at least 16 weeks with my son. This time I won’t be afraid to ask for help for doctor / midwife if I need it so definitely interested to read these recommendations. Already finding that pregnancy with a toddler in tow is a whole other ball game.
