Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

OP I am so so pleased for you. Congratulations. It took us a decade to get pregnant too so I understand the shock as well as the happiness.

This is such a lovely thread! I've not had the struggles that you've had but my second baby was born when I was 40 after infertility and a miscarriage. I'm sending you all my best luck vibes x

This is one thread that has really warmed my heart! I’m have a big grin on my face and tears in my eyes for you - weird as I don’t you, but I like how you expressed your situation. Seems like you’ve been patient, and this wonderful thing has finally come to you. It’s a nice reminder that things can change even when you can’t see light. I wish you a safe pregnancy, and hope you’ll keep us posted.

Thanks for the suggestion - if I had pots of money yes I’d consider going private but unfortunately I don’t so it’s in the lap of the gods :-)

Huge congratulations. This has put a smile on my face. Happened a friend of my sister at 46. Married from early twenties. No success. Surprise pregnancy at 46. All well and a little healthy girl aged about 10 now. I have had lots of friends who had surprise conceptions in their forties - I have my own wee theory that nature knows it’s last chance saloon and decides to ramp up.

I second the advice above. It may be useful to see someone good privately ASAP. I had trouble holding onto pregnancies until I was advised touse progesterone and take mini aspirin in the early months.

Wishing you the very best.

Weirdlynormal · 23/08/2022 22:34

please ask your doctor to order or progesterone. If you MC was hormone related, at least you’ve tried. Good luck OP.

Wow OP delighted for you, just done a test myself tonight and also pregnant, 2-3 weeks gone, totally shocked too as I'm also 44, already have two DCs 15 and 8 years old, lets hope all goes well for both of us!
