We have an Ocarro. It folds up with the seat on facing either way and it's folded smaller than some other pushchairs I've seen (e.g. iCandy or Uppababy). However, it's major flaw is it's really hard to use the big basket underneath as the carrycot and seat both sit low to the basket which has high sides. A number of times I've considered getting a different pushchair but I can't find a good all terrain one that folds down like the Ocarro does.

If you don't need all terrain you'll have many more options to you but all Mamas and Papas ones have the stupid basket problem 🤦

I have a Toyota Yaris and out of loads I tried in my boot the only one that met our criteria (easy fold etc) that I didn't have to take 2 wheels off was venicci tinum. I still have to take 1 wheel off but it's very easy to do. However it is not an all-terrain by any stretch of the imagination, we didn't need that.

JLQ1020 · 06/07/2022 18:10

It's not a travel system but I cannot recommend the Doona enough.
It's a carseat that has wheels you can flip out. No need to take wheels off to store in the boot.

You can't change to put on a carrycot but you should think how often you will need one.

You could get a Doona and when baby is about 6 months get a small pushchair?

My baby loves hers.

allthingssparkly · 06/07/2022 18:10

I'm not so much bothered about it being all terrain, I just dont want something too bulky and heavy. Want something neat and compact but sturdy and good quality, it's an absolute minefield 🤣

I would really recommend going somewhere you can try several on your shortlist in your car to see what you think.

If the main criteria is size when folded then get a yoyo. It folds up to the size of a carry on suitcase. You can either get a carrycot for it or the original 0-6 month pack which is a also totally flat and folds up with the frame. You can get clips so a carseat will clip on if you need that feature (very useful if you have to park your car at any distance from your house).

ToCaden · 06/07/2022 18:16

Yes. I second the doona. So easy to use and takes up so little space.

allthingssparkly · 06/07/2022 18:16

I was considering the doona however I think it will be a faff getting that in and out the back of my car. Maybe I need to see it in the flesh, is it heavy?

I think I will do this @Cuwins seems a sensible idea!

The caveat is that a yoyo is NOT all terrain and will feel flimsy on anything that isn’t pavement or concrete or smooth gravel paths in city parks. But they are very smooth to push, have a tiny turning circle and fit through very narrow gaps. They stand up to daily city use well too.

allthingssparkly · 06/07/2022 18:20

I do like this bundle as it comes with the car seat and carrycot too! The question is will it fit my boot 🤣

Another vote for the doona x

tealandteal · 06/07/2022 18:21

I have a mini and the joie litetrax and versatrax both fit in the boot. I put the carrycot on the front seat. I don’t have to take any wheels off and they are both easy to fold with one hand.

Lavender2021 · 06/07/2022 18:25

I wouldn't get a doona as your main pushchair as babies shouldn't be in a car seat for long. It's far better for the baby to be flat in a carrycot or lie flat pushchair and leave the car seat for the car.

allthingssparkly · 06/07/2022 18:29

I thought this @Lavender2021 🤔🤔🤔

I’ve got a Bugaboo bee which I love. It does fold small and is sturdy. Unsure if it will fit in a Fiat 500 boot, I’ve had it in a mini with no issues

Lavender2021 · 06/07/2022 18:36

You don't have to buy a travel system. The Avionaut pixel Pro is a great infant seat and it's light to carry.
I'm not sure how big a fiat 500 boot is.
Some mountain buggy fold small and baby jogger do small ones.

Flederjo · 06/07/2022 18:36

Whatever you go for, newborns should be lying completely flat in the first months (in the first weeks ideally not more than 30 minutes in a car seat!). It is vital for oxygen supply and skeletal development!

I worry that these Doonas are used in the car, then pushed around the shops for hours 😥

Caspianberg · 06/07/2022 18:37

Baby zen yo-yo.
Get with the lie flat baby set and not the carrycot, then it will fold in one piece.

get a car seat that swivels 360 and stays in the car instead. Then you can swivel forward to easily put baby in, then swivel back to rear face. No need to remove from car

sarge89 · 06/07/2022 18:37

Joolz Hub! Folds up super small and yet still has decent sized wheels. The pushchair part lies completely flat but the bassinet isn't that big anyway.

Definitely a yo-yo
don’t bother with the bassinet, the newborn pack is fine

Sandcastles24 · 06/07/2022 18:43

Yoyo is indeed tiny, you can even take it on a plane.

If all terrain isn't an issue have you considered the nuna Trev it folds really easily and is small and light

allthingssparkly · 06/07/2022 18:46

Thank you everyone, there's are lots to consider and for me to have a mooch through online! I appreciate the recommendations 😊

Second this. So light and easy to steer. Folds up really small. Haven't tried it in the boot of a fiat 500 but fit in a fiesta boot with space to spare. Amazing quality, mine is 8 years old and on my third baby and never had a problem with it.
