Baby measuring 3kg already at 32+4

Just had another growth scan and my baby is measuring bigger (I have gestational diabetes) he’s already measuring over 6 pound and I can’t help but cry. I’m so upset right now… I’ve been diet controlled for the past 3 weeks (starting insulin tonight) and she’s still measuring bigger… I’m so overwhelmed. What is she gonna be measuring in 4 weeks time? Her stomach and head are already 4 weeks ahead. I’m measuring nearly 4 weeks ahead, I’m a mess ☹️

Stay calm maybe there is a chance that she could be more ahead than you think ? My friend had gestational diabetes they told her she would have a 10lb baby but he was 8lb

Becca.200622 · 02/06/2022 16:41

I'd try not to get upset 💕 I'm 36 weeks now and apparently having a big baby (over 7lb). My gestational diabetes test came back negative at screening, but they've retested me again yesterday and said if it's positive they may bring my c section forward.

I've stayed calm as my friend had her daughter at 38 weeks via c section as they measured the baby at 10lb....one c section later and her daughter was just under 8 pounds!

These tests can be so inaccurate - can also be accurate - but a lot of the time way way off.

X

Just read post above mine and those measurements were pretty much the same as my friends, so there defo is room for error by a few pounds!x

MistyFrequencies · 02/06/2022 17:29

My first.baby I had GD and they said she would be 11 pound! I was TERRIFIED. She was 7 pound - something.
Try and keep calm. You're doing all the right things. It will be fine.

MonkeyPlush94 · 02/06/2022 22:03

@Becca.200622 Thanks for reassuring me! Its crazy how sometimes scans can be off. For some woman they are right but for others they're off by a pound or also more. I believe my girl isn't that big already, she's probably enjoying eating the extra glucose tbh lol

@MistyFrequencies Oh wow!!!! When did you deliver her?

Sometimes these scans can be wrong. I was told all sorts from my scans. At one point they had me freaked out that my baby wasn't growing, had tiny legs and a massive head, there was talks of delivering me early and steroid injections. He was nearly 7 pounds and head and legs were perfect.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/06/2022 22:08

I was told all 3 of mine were between 8lbs 7 and 9lbs 7 . The heaviest was 7lbs 4.

WorryMcGee · 02/06/2022 22:12

They told me my baby was 8lb something on multiple scans. She came out as a tiny 6lb 6!

MonkeyPlush94 · 02/06/2022 22:12

@romdowa Oh wow, my ultrasound tech told me not to worry tho. He was being very reassuring, he done my last growth scan and he said "well she ain't getting any smaller" but he said that will raise red flags.

@LuluBlakey1 How inaccurate!! :o

@WorryMcGee That is tiny, when did you deliver??

WorryMcGee · 02/06/2022 22:16

@MonkeyPlush94 38+6 by planned c-section. We were very surprised but she was absolutely fine! Just tiny 🙂

I've had two GD babies and one was 11 lb and the second one was 8 lb because I didn't cheat the diet.

MonkeyPlush94 · 02/06/2022 22:24

@WorryMcGee Did you want the planned C-section?? or did you want to go natural?

OP posts:
WorryMcGee · 02/06/2022 22:55

@MonkeyPlush94 I have tokophobia so
it was planned because of that, but she ended up breech anyway so she would have been a c section in the end regardless.

MonkeyPlush94 · 02/06/2022 22:57

@WorryMcGee that's fair enough, don't blame you because childbirth does seem terrifying! how did your c-section go anyways? x

My baby was showing up on the measurements as being big. Gave birth just before 37 weeks and he was under 6lbs.

My other baby showed up as slightly above average and was more than 9lb.

Those measurements are shite!

WorryMcGee · 02/06/2022 23:05

@MonkeyPlush94 it was so calm and lovely, all the staff were wonderful, I had music playing and my husband with me and I was up and about pretty quickly. Stopped needing painkillers after about five days and my scar is so neat all the midwives at follow up checks have commented on it 😂 I will only be having one child, I can’t do pregnancy again - but if I was going to have another that’s how I’d want to do it!

MonkeyPlush94 · 02/06/2022 23:05

@Superslide Crazy how theyre out. I wonder why they do growth scans! I know checking fluid and blood flow is very IMPORTANT during pregnancy especially those with gestational diabetes..

They told me my baby was 8lb something on multiple scans. She came out as a tiny 6lb 6!

I came on to say exactly the same. I was told she was 8 and a half the day before she was born. She was 6lb 6.

clairebeacham · 02/06/2022 23:14

@MonkeyPlush94 my first measured 6lb at 32 weeks too. I didn't have gestational diabetes, but I was terrified that she would be huge. She arrived naturally at 40+3 and and weighed 9lb 5 which really wasn't that big. I wish I hadn't worried so much about it. The birth was straightforward and she was just perfect.

MistyFrequencies · 02/06/2022 23:15

@MonkeyPlush94 I was induced at 39 weeks because baby was supposedly so big. Long long induction, the whole time scared of this monster 11 pounder, only to push out a very normal sized baby. It's not uncommon for those measurements to be wrong. You'll be fine.

Catsstillrock · 02/06/2022 23:21

I was told my second would be over 11lbs! No GD though (was tested repeatedly).

i was sure he wasn’t that big - my first was 9lb (normal in my family) and he wasn’t - 10lb exactly!

CoreyTaylorsbiggestfan · 02/06/2022 23:25

Have you joined the gestational diabetes UK Facebook group? Lots of support there.
I had GD (GD also causes babies to be small due to placenta deterioration) my baby was 5lb 7oz and growth scans were correct! I had her 15 days early xxx

Isonthecase · 02/06/2022 23:32

I've had friends who had big babies and I mean BIG. They were fine, babies were fine. Even if your baby is a 12 pounder they will be prepared and are capable of getting them out with you both absolutely ok.
