Damp underwear and crazy increase in movements

Hi all,

I'm 36 weeks exactly.

I usually have a sleepy baby who gives me a few periods of movements a day and is more active in the evening but nothing too crazy.

This afternoon I went to the loo and noticed my knickers were wet so I changed them and carried on, cooked tea for the kids and went to the loo again to find they were wet again so I put a pad in.

Since then the baby has been moving so much more than usual. Like they are unable to stay still it'd so strange.

I've just been to the loo and my pad feels slightly damp, it may be a super absorbant one but my knickers showed the wetness more than the pad. To add to this it is definitely not urine but could it be watery discharge or sweat maybe?!

Am I being really naive thinking this isn't my waters? I had to have them artificially ruptured in my previous labour to speed up the process but have read that when they go it can be trickles not gushes.

Thanks

The pads they give you detect the fluid and turn purple if it’s amniotic fluid. They should’ve given you some to take home.

DSis had a tear at the top, which causes the trickle.

You could ask to change trusts of that’s how you feel. Where’s the nearest midwife led unit?

RidingMyBike · 15/05/2022 08:45

I'd go back and see if you can get it swabbed to double check? If it is your waters then you'll be at higher risk of infection. I had to be really persistent to get them to actually listen to me and do something after being fobbed off several times!

Valhalla17 · 15/05/2022 08:45

Pls go back to a different hospital this morning OP.

Squiff70 · 15/05/2022 09:17

You really need to go back (or to a different hospital) and insist on a fibronectin test. It's a swab which tests for amniotic fluid. Don't leave until they've done it! Maternal instinct is hugely beneficial to mother and baby so if you're telling them it's not urine, they should be listening to you intently!

Robbo1010 · 15/05/2022 11:22

Thanks for all the advice guys. It's there on tissues when I wipe up before I wee. It doesn't smell of wee. It could be discharge but it's wetness not like my usual discharge at all.

OP, that sounds exactly like when my waters went, especially the second time. Midwife couldn't be sure, another saw me for a check up and confirmed it was amniotic fluid. I ended up being induced as I went 24hrs without labour progressing.
There could be an increased risk of infection if it is your waters so please get seen again

Good luck 🤞

supadupapupascupa · 15/05/2022 11:29

I had this both pregnancies! Both times they said it was thrush haha.
It wasn't. I KNOW it was waters. I could feel a small gush when I sat up from sleeping.

First one ended up with merconium so rushed in.

Second one I went in for induction and even though officially it was thrush, they got me seen sooner "in case". There's an increased risk of infection so they didn't want to leave me.

Even if they say it's nothing, get checked because it goes on the record!

RaspberryChouxBuns · 15/05/2022 11:36

Go and get a second opinion. This doesn't sound like urine.

JolkienRolkienRolkienTolkien · 15/05/2022 13:49

This sounds exactly like how I was when my waters partially went at 36+4, it was like I was continually weeing myself a little bit. The hospital did the test a previous poster mentioned and confirmed that it was amniotic fluid not wee. Did they do this test for you when you went in?

RidingMyBike · 15/05/2022 14:57

How much of a check did they actually do? I went in for monitoring after something trickled down my leg - had a VE and the midwife got me to lie down for a while then checked again just to see if waters had pooled. They checked baby was OK and also did the swab thing to be sure.

Robbo1010 · 15/05/2022 18:18

So the Dr came and he put the speculum in told me to cough 🤷‍♀️ and then said no evidence of waters and didn't do the test.
I've spoke to a few friends today who said they travelled to the next Trust which is 40 minutes away and they were far better so I'm going to phone them in the morning and see if I'm too late to switch.

How are you getting on OP?

Robbo1010 · 17/05/2022 12:38

Had more leakage yesterday so went back in, they still weren't convinced but scanned me and found no fluid around baby. Had antibiotics and being induced Friday at 36+6, following daily monitoring this week. No contractions have started but if they do then I have to go straight in too.

I feel like complaining about Saturday nights events. Thank you so much to everyone who gave their advice.

OMG, a very good thing you did go back in for another check. If you can find the energy do complain about the first visit (try PALS) - they're never going to improve if they don't get evidence of what's wrong.

Good luck!

bananaskinny · 17/05/2022 12:54

Omg, your latest update sent a shiver down my spine. Bastards. Please complain. This could've all ended so badly :(

Regenbogen22 · 17/05/2022 13:04

Wow OP I was following this thread....I'm also so glad you went back. Their attitudes, comments and behaviour could have made this situation turn out very differently 😱

HSKAT · 17/05/2022 13:17

Wow.
Please complain this could have ended horrendously.
Good I know for Friday

Robbo1010 · 17/05/2022 13:19

Thanks all. They're still not committed to saying my waters went, almost like its a coincidence I leaked fluid and then there was none round baby. 🤔
I will complain but it's not high on my list for this week. Feel very anxious about it all now.

ohidoliketobe · 17/05/2022 13:21

Please complain about all visits since your first post. You've been subjected to pretty poor treatment and advice from the maternity unit here.

ohidoliketobe · 17/05/2022 13:22

And good luck for this week!

BertieBotts · 17/05/2022 13:23

Just write down what happened with dates etc, understandably it's not a priority now but you might not remember later so it will help if you do want to make a complaint later on.

ChewtonBunny · 17/05/2022 18:30

Your posts on this thread would be a really useful starting point for notes for a complaint.

I'm sorry you have had to go through this.

Good luck Flowers

FairyCakeSprinkles · 17/05/2022 20:28

Oh gosh OP. I assume no one on this thread has a medical qualification and yet we all knew it was your waters and you were being fobbed off. Thank goodness they scanned you.

Good luck with the induction and well done for going back despite how you were treated at the weekend.

PlantingTrees · 18/05/2022 14:34

That’s terrible that you’ve not been believed and now there’s no fluid around baby. Can you get to the other trust?

Celyn22 · 26/05/2022 09:36

I've been thinking of you @Robbo1010 and really trusting that all is going well for you. Please let us know how you are when you can. Sending so much love and care to you xx
