How to avoid miscarriage?! Sticky bean!

Hi Ladies, I've just had a faint BFP at 8 DPO. I've had 2 miscarriages before and I'm already terrified I will have another!

Apart from the obvious take preg Vitamins, eat well, no alcohol etc is there anything else I can do to make this bean stick?

Should I contact my doctor so they can do blood tests to check things? Progesterone etc?

Any advice or anyone else going through this ❤️

You can’t.
Thats the honest answer.

No blood tests or early scanning will prevent it ime.

If it’s going to happen there isn’t really any thing that can be done is there.
There is so little funding and understanding around miscarriage, it’s very difficult to change that 1:3 statistic.

But there is hope. So all the very best with this pregnancy, I had a healthy baby after 2 miscarriages so there is hope.

Hallibob · 12/05/2022 08:29

Very little you can do unfortunately. It's a worrying time!

I've heard of taking baby aspirin for recurrent miscarriages. I'm on 150mg a day for my whole pregnancy although that's for previous blood pressure issues. Maybe ask your gp or midwife when you get to booking?

Suprima · 12/05/2022 08:35

Your GP won’t just give you progesterone in this circumstance- but you can get a private prescription pretty easily. It will cost about £350 including a scan if you can afford that.

also baby aspirin- 75mg is known to help

I have been in your position and done the above and am currently 33 weeks pregnant with the only baby-shaped thing I have ever seen on a scan. Everything else was very early losses.

I have no clotting problems nor bleeding in my miscarriages (minus the chem pregnancies) but I did both as a precaution. I did however start taking my progesterone at 5 weeks so baby had already ‘stuck’ just had to help it grow.

a lot of it is just luck- but I get that you want to stack the cards in your favour. Private appointments are easy to come by. Try and see someone today if you can afford it.

if you can’t, you can buy aspirin over the counter at a pharmacy and you can beg your GP and see if they are open minded.

but 8DPO is very very very early. do what you can but guard your heart.

Regenbogen22 · 12/05/2022 08:36

Start immediately on 75mg aspirin per day. Won't do any harm, you don't need a prescription, and it could help thin the blood slightly in those little tiny developing blood vessels in/around the embryo.
Worked for me after 2 miscarriages. I also took progesterone but the aspirin you can start right now, the progesterone you'll need an appt and a prescription for.

PollyDarton1 · 12/05/2022 08:45

Unfortunately there is not much you can do apart from the obvious, as bad as that sounds. I am very much hoping for a sticky for you Flowers

Burgerqueenbee · 12/05/2022 08:51

If they were both pre 12 weeks I think it is meant to be mostly be due to genetic abnormalities/not forming properly so other than taking folic acid there isn't much you can do unfortunately.

I had an 11 week miscarriage in April and one minute I was going about my day, the next it was happening no warning, no previous pains etc, it is just a sad thing that happens sometimes.

Good luck this time Flowers

hopingfor23 · 12/05/2022 09:03

Echo the baby aspirin. My consultant told me as soon as I got a positive to take them - you can pick 75mg from home bargain or chemist just don't tell them what you are taking them for (advice from my consultant!!) - I have got to 5 weeks with using aspirin and I have progesterone ready if I start spotting. I couldn't afford the private prescription for that really so I went back to my GP who was happy to prescribe. Good luck OP X

theotherfossilsister · 12/05/2022 11:48

I'm on 150g aspirin a day. This was prescribed. Maybe ask your gp if it's a good idea for you too?

theotherfossilsister · 12/05/2022 11:50

Also was told to take at night rather than morning, not sure why.

Pluckedblueberry · 12/05/2022 17:33

Hello.. I had a miscarriage too. I understand the feeling.. how are you today? Hope you're well.

LASandOtto · 12/05/2022 19:10

The updated advice is 150mg aspirin to be taken in the evening. That's what I'm doing and did in my last pregnancy. I had 2 miscarriages prior to that.

TTCnumberone · 13/05/2022 08:42

Thanks for all your replies!

I did another test this morning but the line was so much fainter, barely there so now I'm wondering if the test I did yesterday was even positive, have started another thread to see if anyone else can even see a line on my first test or if I was just deceiving myself 😪

Here's my test, what do you think? Can you see the line??

@TTCnumberone please leave a couple of days in between tests, your HCG needs chance to double. There is a line on that test, it's hard to see if there's colour though. And you are only 9dpo, implantation will have only happened a couple of days ago! If you test again then let it be on Sunday morning.

Why not start on the low dose aspirin today?

Good idea, I'll start on the aspirin tonight. Fingers crossed for a darker test in a couple of days.

Honestly don't know why I put myself through this!!

I have quite a busy weekend so that should keep my mind active and stop me from POS!

Regenbogen22 · 13/05/2022 09:13

A busy weekend sounds just the thing!!
Take the aspirin at night, it's supposed to have more of an effect generally as a medicine then.

TTCnumberone · 16/05/2022 07:09

OK so I've retested yesterday at 11dpo and here's the result 😔 if I was pregnant I'm sure it would be stronger by now

Not necessarily. That's what my cheapy strips looked like at 11dpo! The FRER was darker but the cheapies always took their time.

Ahhh really? I've ordered some FRER arriving today so will retest later and hopefully find out for sure one way or another! I'll keep you updated 🤞 xx

You haven’t even missed your period yet if you are still going by DPO? You’re not out.

My line was about the same degree of faintness on the day of a missed period.

TTCnumberone · 16/05/2022 18:14

My FRER arrived!! I couldn't wait for tomorrow to use FMU, so here is the result from this afternoon (12DPO) it's still a faint line but it came up pretty quickly and it's got pink colour but annoyingly doesn't show on camera. I'm starting to believe I may actually be pregnant now!!! Hopefully I can get a blazing BFP in the next couple of days 🙏🤞🥰

Ahh congratulations!
Amazing 🤩

I'm on aspirin and progesterone, I'm 5 weeks today but had a mmc earlier this year.

Have you reduced the caffeine?
Also Google if you are eating a range of fruit/ veg as pregnant women shouldn't eat pineapple early on- who knew 🤷🏻‍♀️ there are things that aren't great but not on the 'nhs don't eat list' so worth checking.
I question if pineapple contributed to my mmc.

@dreamyunicorn congratulations hun!! I'm taking aspirin and will contact doctors today to see if they can do a blood test to check progesterone/iron etc.

Did you need a blood test before they prescribed you the progesterone?

I had no idea about the pineapple, how strange! I'm eating lots of veggies and fruit. My friend is a Doula and she has recommended nettle tea, it's packed full of nutrients. Also oat straw tea is a nice one to keep the nervous system calm 😊

Are you going for an early private scan or waiting for the 12 week one? Xx

Hi Ladies, to keep you updated, we lost our little one last night. We were 5 weeks. I was on aspirin and progesterone but it wasn't enough to save the baby. Obviously we are utterly devastated xx

So sorry to hear of your loss @TTCnumberone. Go easy on yourself while you process this. It's probably too early yet to think about it but maybe your Doctor can refer you for recurrent miscarriage to a fertility clinic if you decide to try again. Thinking of you x
