Can I go to the cinema at 13 weeks pregnant?

Hey guys, I’ve heard conflicting things about this and tbh it’s probably a really silly thing to ask. I’m 13 weeks pregnant after recurrent miscarriages, is it okay to go to the cinema to watch a romance/action film at 13 weeks pregnant? It won’t harm the baby in any way, right? I’m so sorry if this is a really dumb question to ask! I’ve been reading lots of different things so I got a little confused.

It won’t harm the baby, no.

KitKat1985 · 02/05/2022 11:04

Of course you can go to the cinema. I'm slightly confused why you think you can't.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/05/2022 11:05

What have you read that makes you think this might not be ok?

GiltEdges · 02/05/2022 11:05

I'm so confused by this, in what way do you think it could harm them? Presumably you watch TV?

brookstar · 02/05/2022 11:06

Of course you. Why would you think you can't?

brookstar · 02/05/2022 11:06

*of course you can.

TeddyBeans · 02/05/2022 11:06

Baby's very snug and well protected. Nothing from the cinema (elevated sound levels, vibrations, etc.) are going to be able to harm them. Enjoy!

Cheeseandlobster · 02/05/2022 11:06

Why would watching a film harm a baby?

TabbyMcTatBuskersCat · 02/05/2022 11:06

What on earth have you been reading that suggests you couldn't?

dreamerkr · 02/05/2022 11:07

Thanks guys, I can’t believe I asked this it’s such a silly question. I was worried about the loud sounds from an action movie and whether or not they can harm the baby. And a couple of silly friends of mine too said I shouldn’t go to the movies in pregnancy. But I’m gonna go tonight for sure. I feel so silly now 😂

I watched James Bond at imax at 8 months pregnant 😂 baby boy is fine although a bit of a brute 😜 xo

unfortunateevents · 02/05/2022 11:07

Where on earth have you been reading "lots of things" that suggest the cinema is harmful?! Don't use the internet as a source of information on pregnancy unless it is a very reliable source!

Auntieobem · 02/05/2022 11:08

I'd also be interested to know what you've been reading which would suggest that going to the cinema could be harmful to your baby???

PortiaFimbriata · 02/05/2022 11:08

Bless you, yes of course.

Add me to the list of people who really want to know what you've been hearing that says you can't.

impossible · 02/05/2022 11:15

Yes go to the cinema and yes keep living your life. And generally, keep living your life.

Enjoy the film.

Bubbles021 · 02/05/2022 11:24

OP please don't feel silly for posting this question. When you have had recurrent loss it makes your brain do crazy things and it's not your fault.
I lost my first baby at 33 weeks last year and I'm currently pregnant with my rainbow baby and have googled and second guessed EVERYTHING!
I've put it down to wanting to be in control, and feel like I am doing my best to protect my baby.
Our brains make us question and catastrophise everything, there are no stupid questions 💖

I went the whole way through mine, we watched sing 2 when I was 8 months and my little girl had a rave in my stomach - she enjoyed the music!

now she’s here- she still loves it.
go and enjoy yourself 😀

Georgeskitchen · 02/05/2022 11:39

I can understand you feeling worried about things that could harm your baby, having suffered losses. The loud music and vibrations in the cinema do sometimes feel like they go through your body, but pretty sure they won't harm you or your little one. Enjoy the film!!

Lollipop858 · 02/05/2022 11:51

I remember being like this when I was pregnant at 16, my dad took me to a concert and I spent the whole time covering my baby bump because I was scared it would harm their ears 😂

Cinema is absolutely fine!

Don’t worry. Ignore anyone posting telling you that you are daft for asking. Recurrent miscarriage makes you question everything and start considering things you wouldn’t have dreamed of. Go, your baby is safe there.

I think your friends are having you on. Bless, it can be so hard to be PG after a MC. I remember with my pregnancy after 4 MCs, I was scared of watching anything funny because MC3 had started while I was watching Bridget Jones's Baby and I was convinced that the laughter had caused it. I wish you the very best of luck with your pregnancy.

Dagnabit · 02/05/2022 12:12

I went to see The Prodigy a week before I was due with my first. She was fine - in fact, she was 2 weeks over as she loved it so much in there Hmm She’s now a perfectly normal ish nearly 13yo! Enjoy your film.

Oblomov22 · 02/05/2022 12:27

Eh? What conflicting things have you read? Of course you can.

muddyford · 02/05/2022 12:34

Depends what's on...

Cakecakecheese · 02/05/2022 12:40

I'd distance yourself from people spouting nonsense like that, so unhelpful.
