Can I go to the cinema at 13 weeks pregnant?

Hey guys, I’ve heard conflicting things about this and tbh it’s probably a really silly thing to ask. I’m 13 weeks pregnant after recurrent miscarriages, is it okay to go to the cinema to watch a romance/action film at 13 weeks pregnant? It won’t harm the baby in any way, right? I’m so sorry if this is a really dumb question to ask! I’ve been reading lots of different things so I got a little confused.

You can absolutely go, but if you're anything like me you'll see more of the loos than the film 😂

LightningAndRainbows · 02/05/2022 13:07

Who told you this? I understand completely the fear but someone is winding you up.

Hugasauras · 02/05/2022 13:11

Hardly an action film but I saw Downton Abbey at the weekend and I'm 7.5 months! Baby was very active but that was most likely due to the jelly babies, fizzy juice and popcorn I was shovelling in my gob Grin

Enjoy!

Thanks guys, I can’t believe I asked this it’s such a silly question. I was worried about the loud sounds from an action movie and whether or not they can harm the baby. And a couple of silly friends of mine too said I shouldn’t go to the movies in pregnancy. But I’m gonna go tonight for sure. I feel so silly now 😂

Get some new friends. They're either incredibly ignorant or are deliberately playing into your fears about your pregnancy.

I went to the cinema plenty when I was pregnant and in the late stages my baby would get very excited, rolling about and kicking! Doesn't seem to have done her any harm, she's a 6 month old chunk now Smile

Furrbabymama87 · 02/05/2022 13:23

Crazy.

ChaToilLeam · 02/05/2022 13:25

You’ll be fine, enjoy the film. Are your friends just daft or playing on your worries? Either way, I’d limit time with them. Who needs to hear such nonsense?

Itwillkiiilllll · 02/05/2022 13:30

Normal cinema is perfectly ok and safe. However, they do advise pregnant women not to see movies with the moving chairs (4D?) as they rattle you all over the place.

20viona · 02/05/2022 13:39

Honestly what kind of question is this 🤣

They really don't. It's a chair, not a rollercoaster, they are fine.

And yes, there are stupid questions. This is one of them

Onwards22 · 02/05/2022 13:41

Never feel embarrassed for asking questions.

I’d double check about 4D cinemas but even those I think are fine.

The normal cinemas are absolutely fine and are actually a great way to do something fun whilst still being comfy.

If you need to pee a lot try and get an end seat though.

Onwards22 · 02/05/2022 13:43

I just had to google it and most 4D cinemas don’t allow pregnant women, people with heart problems etc to attend.

I guess it’s to cover themselves more than anything.

Mariposista · 02/05/2022 14:00

Ditch these friends and stay off the internet, otherwise this is going to be a very long pregnancy. Enjoy the film and chill out!

jimmyeatworld · 02/05/2022 14:00

Some real miserable cows on this website that love making people feel stupid. Sorry we're not all rational like some of you.

Ignore the negative comments op, no question is too stupid when you're anxious and have previous trauma.

OldTinHat · 02/05/2022 14:03

Errrrrr...why couldn't you? Do you watch TV?

TimBoothseyes · 02/05/2022 14:28

You'll be fine with the cinema OP, don't worry.

To those posters saying it's a stupid question, no it's not. When during previous pregnancies you've done everything right, yet still lose your baby, then you do start to question everything you did during that time. I lost one at 20 weeks during the Christmas period, when I fell pregnant again I actually banned Christmas crackers from the house and refused to be anywhere that had them. In my mind that was what may have contributed to my loss (the "bang" frightened the baby to literal death), so I wasn't going to risk it. I know now how silly I was being but at the time it felt like a perfectly rational response. So no matter how silly you think the question is think about why the OP has asked it.

Emiliemoo · 02/05/2022 14:31

I went to the cinema when I was about 5 weeks pregnant to see Dunkirk. I remember worrying that the loud volume of the film and vibrations would cause some sort of harm.

Obviously it was all ok and you absolutely can go OP but I completely understand those anxieties in the early weeks

Enjoy your film

coffeeandbiscuit · 02/05/2022 14:51

My last few weeks of pregnancy, having just started my Mat leave, I went to the cinema several times on my own. It was bliss and perfectly ok. Enjoy the film!

They really do, they put a warning on the screen as well.

Hugasauras · 02/05/2022 16:46

Yes, Cineworld specifically say on their website that 4DX screenings are not 'suitable' for pregnant women, along with a bunch of other categories (high blood pressure, heart conditions, etc.)

I very much doubt they would be harmful but cinema will be covering themselves!

Hugasauras · 02/05/2022 16:48

(I went on a tractor pod ride with DD when I was about 10 weeks and I was thrown all over the shop! Did occur to me afterwards it probably wasn't the best idea but no harm done Grin)

334bu · 02/05/2022 16:51

Enjoy the film.

That's literally just so some fool can't sue them afterwards, not because they could do any harm. They can't

OneSharpWriter · 30/05/2024 14:00

Is it safe to watch movie in cinema at 26 weeks?

Oblomov24 · 30/05/2024 14:27

Eh? What on earth have you read that says it wouldn't be? You say conflicting things? Please post links to the places that say it wouldn't be ok because we need to quash this scaremongering, because it's damaging.
