ooooooh,

not sure

eric cantona can carry it off, as a brooding gallic ball of testosterone

i had two elderly relatives called eric, it is not in my top 50 names, TBH

your baby , your decision though !

iwouldgoouttonight · 10/01/2008 09:40

I quite like it, although it does make me think of Eric Morecombe - but that may be because its the only Eric I know of.

Wasn't the little boy in Bananaman called Eric?

Artichokes · 10/01/2008 09:41

I think it is sweet. A bit quirky but quite sweet.

nailpolish · 10/01/2008 09:42

i ts a bit square

gibberish · 10/01/2008 09:44

Good grief no. Sorry, but know a 47yo called Eric and think HE is too young for it, so for me personaly, not a name for a little baby.

But if you come to really like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else says. Go for it!

Or personally even...

I do think it is the WORST idea to ask for opinions on names though. You are never going to find one that everyone likes. We were put off so many lovely names by people's opinions and regret being swayed now.

harleyd · 10/01/2008 09:48

eric rocks

fryalot · 10/01/2008 09:48

Have been pondering this one since you first posted and tbh, it's growing on me.

As others have said, though, tis your baby, your choice of name. But I think I like it actually.

Anna8888 · 10/01/2008 09:51

Eric is really, really dull - even in French. Don't get swayed by romantic visions of footballers .

ivykaty44 · 10/01/2008 09:53

Other old fashioned names have come back into fashion - Arthur being one I would ass with the same time frame as Eric.

I think Eric is a great name to take through life, It will be difficult to shorten, easy to spell - not endless questions of how do you spell that with an "ie" or a "y" Good on a young boy and very solid and manley when grown up.

Is Eric coming out to play?

Is Eric coming to the pub?

I am liking the name

belgo · 10/01/2008 09:54

It's strange, I like Erica for a girl, but not so keen on Eric for a boy.

TsarChasm · 10/01/2008 09:55

Hmm..I think of it as an older person's name. Mainly because my dad has a friend called Eric. Having said that, older names are coming back again aren't they? Nothing wrong with that.

It's growing on me certainly. Isn't 'Arik' also a name? An alternative perhaps?

Hecate · 10/01/2008 09:56

It's mild and innofensive.

Which, in the middle of Shaardonnai, Kourtnae, Tiiami and Macflie (they're me fave gruuup, innit) is something you should probably get an award for.

Anna8888 · 10/01/2008 09:57

belgo - agree, I think Erica is pretty too, and sort of sexy in a Swedish way - Ericas are tall and blond and healthy looking.

Erics, however, are mousy and rather average.

belgo · 10/01/2008 09:58

Erik is the dutch spelling.

Anna8888 · 10/01/2008 09:58

Arik is a bit whacky.

One of my friends used to go out with Arik Levy, before he was so well known. He's very whacky .

Hulababy · 10/01/2008 09:59

I am not keen on Eric, sorry.

One of DD's friends is called Erica and that really suits her.

belgo · 10/01/2008 10:00

Arik would be confusing.

BettySpaghetti · 10/01/2008 10:03

Along the same lines - Aric is a Norse and Germanic name ( meaning eternal ruler or honorable ruler).

kittylouise · 10/01/2008 10:04

I am all for bringing back names from the dead, current faves are Stan, Bert, Wilbur, Wilf, Alan etc.

But can't get my head around Eric, reminds me of dweeby French exchange students with acne.

TsarChasm · 10/01/2008 10:05

Aric with a 'c' on the end looks better. I like it.

nooka · 10/01/2008 10:19

Eric with a good surname would be cool. Not sure what shortenings you would use - I guess you'd have to go down the nickname route. I like names with lots of possibilities I don't like Erica so much personally.

LoveAngel · 10/01/2008 10:20

Not keen. I get images of a weedy looking bloke in skew-whiff glasses, probably with bad breath.
