Swollen nether regions!!

Hi 34 weeks pg here, and have extremeley swollen nether regions! I have mentioned to midwife several times, and they just said quiet common to have varicous (sorry spelling) veins. Starting to worry not normal, as seriously seriously swollen, can anyone else share their experiences on this rather delicate subject, to make me feel less abnormal or not as the case may be?

Yes. I had something like that when I was pregnant. One big swollen raised vein.

TMI ALERT

I used to really enjoy scratching it gently. The relief from the itch and pain was simply fantastic!

After I gave birth it went away. Don't know how long it took. Was occupied with other things and barely remembered about it

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 09/01/2008 20:56

I did not notice any varicose veins in mine, but I did notice it was extremely 'fleshy' and always very moist.
Also very sensitive, which was great as my sex drive was thru the roof, both times!

rdk · 09/01/2008 20:58

im so glad you have started this tread ive got the same problem too hope someone can shed some light on this i mentioned it to doctor and midwife and they didnt even say much i said to them its gotta be the presure and im only 25 weeks.take care x

Beauregard · 09/01/2008 21:03

Without wanting to scare you, i had a fanjo like a bunch of grapes when i was pregnant with dd2.And god they ached ,the last 6 weeks i was waddling along clutching my fanny.

Rest assured though they will go but as to whether they can ressurect in future pregnancies i do not know,i have a feeling they are lurking somewhere waiting to pounce.

What you need is a cold pack and a sanitary towel like a mattress x 6.

You have my symphathy.

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:08

Stacey, i had a vulval vein when i was preg with second baby (in the summer).I was MORTIFIED!!

I didnt have anything like it with ds1, but this time i had been feeling a bit sort of 'heavy' and when i had a look thats what it was.

I know they usually go, but because it was me personally experiencing it, it was a different story! Anyway, it went straightaway after, much to my relief. I honestly could have cried.

I didnt realise quite how the whole area was generally swollen throughout my preg until postnatally, now its gone back to normal! I kept looking in the mirror when preg thinking how it all looked horrible and even worse when the vein developed. Now i cant believe how it all looks so nice.Seriously. I know it sounds Daft!.Even DP tells me that it felt all soft in pregnancy.

Honestly, be reassured!

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:09

Think mine too, is definitely lurking{grin] or maybe that should be.

Staceyk · 09/01/2008 21:13

Thank you for all your replies, sorry if this sounds toop graphic, but it doesn't feel like a swollen vein (not that I had one to know what it feels like) but it's swollen both sides as it were? Is that possible?

OP posts:
carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:23

It might not be a vein then, it may just be all plump and swollen cos of the pregnancy hormones. Or you could have one both sides(thankfully only one side affected with me!!)or maybe one is developing and you are feeling a bit uncomfortable. Have you had a good look?!

sweetnessandlight · 09/01/2008 21:24

TMI warning

After birth my labia (never typed that before and hopefully never will again) were like two tennis balls and the midwife visibly winced at first check

different of course as after pregnancy but to my profound relief they didn't burst or explode and went back to normal size

will now change name

sweetnessandlight · 09/01/2008 21:28

sorry the point of all that revolting detail was to say it can all return to normal without any after effects and don't worry on that front (or that front bottom)

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:29

Should have changed my name! I can only describe what i had as an obsession with my labia! Kept looking to see if it had gone(but of course it hadnt)up until labour!!It was so strange to look at

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:30

Vein had gone i mean, not my labia!

Staceyk · 09/01/2008 21:31

Think this whole thread should come with a TMI warning. Yes had a look, and just looks like I've got dark purple tennis ball (yes accurate size) halfway between my 2 exits!!!

Also and this really is TMI after going to the loo, which can sometimes invlove slight straining, it swells up considerably more

rdk · 09/01/2008 21:32

does it not get worst after giving birth cause of the pushing and pressure you think it would wouldnt you . hope is doesnt tho hope it would just go NOW. take care

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:33

OOH Stacey, sounds worse than mine., Dont let yourself get constipated as, like piles(which i got 'an all last few wks of preg)will make it worse.

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:35

Doesnt get worse with birth, its the pressure of the baby's head, which obviously once out, eases that pressure.

Staceyk · 09/01/2008 21:39

Hi no I am very careful about that. But like rdk says, really worringly about birth, as thats one hell of a strain, really do think they might explode, also pain first time round with normal bits was as bad as I thought bad could be, can't bear the thought of LO trying to come out of such an already swollen, painful, sensative area.

Do however feel slightly better that others have suffered (sorry not usually such a saddist) but was starting to think may have some strange tropical disease, unknown to man, (How I would have caught that I don't quiet know as I haven't ventured out of Zone 5 (tube map reference) for several months, and there has been no physical side to my wonderful marriage for about 5 months, due to horrendous swelling)

OP posts:
carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:50

Stacey, i promise you and rdk that they wont burst. Swear to God!And even tho they my feel heavy whilst you are pregnant, you wont notice them in labour. And they can ease off abit in pregancy even, if the baby shifts position, wont go tho, but may look/feel better.

No one in the worls was more obsessed than me, i was convinced id need surgery after!

We still had sex, but i always made sure oral was in the dark .

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 21:52

And its not as uncommon as you think! I confided in a friend when i discovered mine and she laughed and said she had them with 2 of her pregnancies! This friend told me about another closet vulval vein friend and we had a laugh together. They went on to have more babies too!

Staceyk · 10/01/2008 19:33

Thank you

This is what you need.

Mumblesmummy · 11/01/2008 10:59

Hi sorry to hijack, but I just wondered, I've not got swollen veins or anything, but the whole lot seems to be swollen down there, and a little uncomfortable. I can tell I'm starting with a water infection too- could this be linked? I'm at the doctors tonight anyway so i can find out then, but I'm so impatient and uncomfortable.

Buckets · 11/01/2008 12:20

Everything does get pretty humongous down there anyway with all the pressure and increased bloodflow. I promise it does go back to normal.

rdk · 11/01/2008 13:44

this may sound a bit odd but ive started a few days ago to apply canistan cream down there to see if i does take any swelling down its its worked a little so maybe try that and see if it eases a little .its worth a go and was really doing my head in so thought is better than using nothing.

carmenelectra · 11/01/2008 13:48

rdk, wouldnt have though Canestan would do much good, unless you maybe a bit swollen and sore from thrush? Have you looked to see whats down there
