It doesn't sound stupid at all,I would think it is the Brixton Hicks contractions? I would suggest you ring NHS Direct immediatly, they would be able to tell you what is going on. I'm no expert on this but I would suggest you lay down and whatever you do..don't push. OK?

I'm off to find the telephone number.

Chandra

Stupid me! you said 40+5?. You must be in labour!!! all the best!

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2004 08:45

Sounds like labour to me!!! (You say you've been to the loo 3 times and done a poo? - DEFO labour!)

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Pidge · 22/11/2004 09:28

Period type pains can definitely be a sign of impending labour - I had these for a day before contractions started.

Good luck ....

babybob · 22/11/2004 09:40

hi i have had period types pains for about a week these ones are alot stronger and more painfull

OP posts:
misdee · 22/11/2004 09:41

how far apart are they now?

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2004 09:42

I'd say you will go into labour properly in the within the next few days based on my experience (3 babies).

Hope so!

Looking forward to reading your announcement!

MummyToSteven · 22/11/2004 09:42

are the pains coming more often now, or have they worn off? if you are in any doubt, phone up your labour ward to speak to a midwife. i think established labour tends to be contractions 2/3 minutes apart, lasting 30 seconds each - but not every labour is textbook, so always worth getting checked out

babybob · 22/11/2004 09:46

they are still coming every 20 mins i rang labour ward and they sid it could be early stages and to ring again when they become every 5 min and lasting for 1 min or if my waters break i hope it is the ring thing and not brixton hicks surely they are not this painful??

hang on in there! sounds promising. dont panic and ring labour wd earlier than they said if you are worried. lots of luck and looking forward to reading your story!

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2004 09:51

babybob - when I had ds3 in August I had quite strong contractions every 20 mins apart on the Friday (having completely 'emptied' the night before - sorry if TMI!!) but didn't actually give birth till the early hours of Sunday morning.

I think you are def in early stages - it's impossible to say when it will all take off - could be later today, could be a day or so yet so try and get lots of rest!!!

Angeliz · 22/11/2004 09:54

I had period type cramps all day with dd, (can't remember toilet issues though!! ).
Mine started at 8am and i went to hospital at 5.30 and had her before 9!

I hope your silence is good news++++++++++++++

babybob · 22/11/2004 10:06

think i might go and have a warm bath see if that helps

OP posts:
Pidge · 22/11/2004 10:18

babybob - warm bath is a great plan. After my day of period pains I had 48 hours of contractions every 5-10 minutes before labour really started with the full on contractions every 1-2 minutes. The midwives kept telling me to go and get some sleep, but I was far too excited (plus in pain, having to leap out of bed every 5-10 minutes!!). Anyway, when I did finally fall asleep from utter exhaustion after 2 days, the full-on labour started really suddenly within an hour. So that would be my other tip if you feel even remotely tired - retire to bed!

Frizbe · 22/11/2004 10:36

Hi babybob, I agree with the nice warm bath, it reduced my contractions back to my back, and then about an hour later they speeded up nicely! keep upright to speed thing up (after the bath!) to cheer you up, my labour at home was 4 hrs, including bath, then only another 4 hrs 40 mins at hosp, before I had my lovely dd, good luck! take your mobile into the bath just in case, as one of my friends had her 1st dd in just under 4 hrs full stop!

Frizbe · 22/11/2004 10:37

not literally into the bath, I don't think they work under water!! should have phrased bathroom! PS Get the pethadine its worth it!

Mirage · 22/11/2004 12:43

Sounds as though you are in labour Babybob. My labour started the same way & baby was here in just 4 hours.

How exciting! Good Luck

babybob · 22/11/2004 12:44
