Hi all.

I'm 36+1 and for the past 3 days every day I've been losing my mucus plug, I've had really painful lower left back pain since last Saturday.
I spoke to midwife yesterday and she told me to keep an eye on it things that it could be happening already as you can have back labour and as I'm high risk due to health problems if I get any painful contractions I'm to go in.
This is my 2nd baby with my DD I was induced so I don't know what spontaneous labour is like
When did everyone lose there's and how close to labour?
Thank you

Could be, but might not be. Mucus plug can regenerate. My early labour was back ache but it came in waves.

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 20:06

I said that to my midwife about it growing back she said it's unlikely that it grows back at 36 weeks so god knows, my stomach feels tight at times but mostly not painful, I've also dropped a lot since last week. Past few days I've been up until 3/4 I just can't sleep then up again at 8-9 :( x

It's just my lower left side of my back, but it's a constant pain, to turn in bed to walk to Hoover just everything x

Sounds like it but I've only had one. Lost my plug it looks very similar. Just see how you go.

I wanted an epidural you can't have one after 5cm dilated. X

Good luck xxx

I was induced with my DD at 38 weeks so I've no clue how spontaneous labour feels like etc. I also lost mucus plug with her just after my waters broke whereas this time it's coming away in pieces.
I was thinking trapped nerve but it's been a week I've had this pain now xx

Oh really??? I'm under the consultants and the anaesthetic nurse/doctor said you can have one until whenever as long as you aren't needing to push,
With my DD I was only in official labour for 98 mins so when I asked for one they laughed and said your 8cm and needing to push so only had gas and air x

I lost my mucous plug several times from about 3w weeks. My son was induced at 41+5 and delivered by section at 4w weeks.

It's a sign of things progressing but not necessarily a definitive sign things are nearly there

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 20:27

If I didn't have the back pain I'd think nothing of it! It's agonising :(
He's a big baby as well 4 weeks ago he was weighing 5lb already x

That is that they told me at the hospital.

I did t go in until the pain was hard and asked for the epidural and that is what my midwife said to me.

Ended up getting one anyway as my Dd got stuck and I needed forceps

sophienelisse · 09/04/2022 20:32

Mine felt like back ache also.

I didn't put it down to labour except that I'd had a sweep the day before and the midwife said don't worry if you feel pain after it is just normal.

It kicked off my labour I think.

I just didn't realise.

Someone told me if you can talk through the pain your not in labour and don't need to to to hospital yet. They will just send you home.

Worst advice ever and I don't know why it stuck in my mind as it was totally wrong. I had nothing else to compare it to.

Trust your own body you know it better than anyone in hindsight.

sophienelisse · 09/04/2022 20:36

I was actually on work calls and said to my boss, after a call, my back is killing me. It was her that said right you need to take mat leave from now I think your in labour.

I was lucky enough to to work from home right up till when I had her.

traveltheworld1986 · 09/04/2022 20:40

I had an epidural at 9cm with my DD. It definitely was not ideal because I could barely stay still but it can be done.

traveltheworld1986 · 09/04/2022 20:46

I forgot to say my mucus plug contained blood and was huge (but probably all came at once) mine came out on a Saturday afternoon and my daughter was born on the Monday night! My contractions started slowly on the Saturday and it wasn't until the Sunday evening that I knew for sure I was in labour! They felt like strong period pains or even bowel movements xx

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 09/04/2022 21:10

I had an epidural at around 8cm due to a swollen cervix so it wasn't ideal. I could barely keep still in between contractions either, actually grabbed onto the anaesthetist at one point, knocked my cannula out and covered him in blood Blush

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 21:11

Did you have backache with your labour??
Mines lower left back down my bum a bit as well not across though
I did think trapped nerve but I'm not sure I've had it for a week though this pain then Wednesday I started losing my plug every day since x

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 09/04/2022 21:14

It sounds abit like sciatica ?

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 21:17

Maybe possibly I did tell my midwife and she said to get checked anyway as I'm high risk due to health problems but they are busy to the brim they said.
I will see how I go I have consultants and a growth scan on Tuesday so hopefully I can hold off. I just feel like it will be soon from the way I'm feeling but who knows x

Stomach is tightening but not painful as such, it's so annoying as I've never had to experience spontaneous labour so I don't know what to expect.

For fun take the day he was 5 lb. Add an ounce a day except Sundays and see if you guess correctly...
Good luck!!

PurpleFadesToGreen · 09/04/2022 21:19

Epidurals are usually offered around 5cms.

As any earlier they can slow labour down or stop it.

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 21:22

I never had an epidural with my DD I Was to far gone 😂
I was 8cm by the time they took me up to delivery ward x

Duracellbunnywannabe · 09/04/2022 21:28

Have you been to be checked out? As you are not full term you really need to do that now.

TheFantastic7 · 09/04/2022 21:33

Couldn't say for definite if its your plug, mine were unmistakable! Big gloopy blood tinged blobs, sorryBlush as your not full term yet I would phone assessment unit x

Txo7 · 09/04/2022 21:39

I showed my midwife she said it's deffo my plug coming away, I've been trying to call but no answer they just cut off x

My labours were all in my back. I had tightening over my bump but it didn't hurt at all, the only pain I had for my three was over my lower back.

That said because you're getting it only on one side it may be that the baby is lying on a nerve or something, if it is that hopefully he'll squidge over a bit soon!
