Baby must haves and regret buys...

Mine had to be a baby double food steamer / blender. Took up so much space when could've used a pan and hand blender!

On to dc3 and realised how much they don't actually need.

What are your regret buys and must haves for baby?

Must have: Little white noise machine.

Regrets: The only thing we never used was a breast pump as sadly I couldn’t breastfeed.

wabbeydabbeydo · 22/03/2022 18:37

My regret buy was the Cheeky Wipes strucket. £40 for what is essentially just a plastic box. I don't know what I was thinking!!

Fupoffyagrasshole · 22/03/2022 18:40

Bottles - I spent loads of money of heaps of different types and my little one just refused all of them 😂

Wouldn’t be without my babyzen yo yo or my cheeky wipes

Easymeasy · 22/03/2022 18:42

Must have- decent sling (connecter)
Regret: cot bed as he slept in my bed until 4 and then we got him a double. It was never slept in.

PurplePinecone · 22/03/2022 18:47

Perfect prep machine. Daughter only wanted breastfeeding so it went unused. Also all the bottles etc!

tokyo1 · 22/03/2022 18:48

Must have: massive muslins which were fab for multi purpose use. Gifted a V-tech walker thing that DC used so much from 6mo til now at 2yo. Nappy caddy to keep everything together and carry upstairs
Regret: Sling which was barely used as DC just didn't like it. Next2me bed which baby never wanted to sleep in so we co-slept instead and the cot turned into a dumping station. Gifted a baby bouncer again which baby barely used.
Very dependent on each child as I'm sure for some people my regrets are their must-haves Smile

Ringmaster27 · 22/03/2022 18:50

Best: a good quality sling. All three of my DCs spent most of their first year in it!

Worst: A cot/Moses basket/Next2Me crib. We coslept from birth, and by the time the DCs decided they were ready for their own beds, they were way too big for any of those things! My Next2Me became a really expensive bedside table Blush

Winterfellismyhome · 22/03/2022 18:54

Must haves - perfect prep machine

  • mam formula pots so you don't have to count scoops at 3am
  • sling
  • more muslins than you can count

Regrets - so many blankets

  • too many 0-3 clothes
  • temperature egg (made me paranoid)
Watto1 · 22/03/2022 19:04

Regrets: baby carrier. Dd was born in December. With both of us in winter coats it was just too much of a faff. We’d both be in a sweat by the time we were ready to leave the house! Also fancy high chair with lots of nooks and crannies which were a nightmare to clean and had a dip for a cup which none off dd’s cups fitted in.

Must have: IKEA Antilop high chair. So easy to clean and such good value.

N0va · 22/03/2022 19:10

Must haves: prep machine (had bf supply issues and this was a late impulse buy recently but I love it for combo feeding!), nappy caddy, Big muslins, taggie from the cuddle company (absolutely love these!), baby Carrier

Regrets: next2me (we cosleep), too many blankets, newborn clothes (dc was 10lb 8), dummies (didn't use), bottle warmer (use prep machine and warmer took too long!)

madeleine85 · 22/03/2022 19:10

Regrets: The Snoo!! Absolutely extortionate, my DD hated it, and almost got motion sickness every time she used it. It rocked harder as she got more agitated, until each time she threw up from the rocking, it powered off and messaged us saying come collect your child. So glad for a second hand market. Some people love them, but it's very hit or miss.

Must have: A dimmer light in the baby's room which you can reach and turn lower as you put them to sleep. We don't have one in our new place and i'm looking into solutions. That and a mini white noise machine are god sends.

astoundedgoat · 22/03/2022 19:13

Best money: fisher price rainforest swing for colicky baby who made our lives a misery. We still hum the music at each other now 13 years on to tease each other.

Worst money: that blasted rustley Moses basket that she grew out of in 20 minutes. Oh the huge £££ wooden playpen was a bit pointless too.

madeleine85 · 22/03/2022 19:14

Also second the person who said must have is a babby carrier. We had the Ergo Baby strap on carrier. It was incredible, made walking the dog a breeze, and it was somewhere she really settled/slept until about 6 months-a year when strapped on during the day while we did things.

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/03/2022 19:14

Regrets: Ewan the dream sheep - it did nothing to help my baby sleep

Must have: all the muslins!

PatchworkElmer · 22/03/2022 19:16

Must have: muslins, perfect prep, gro bags, jumperoo, carrier.

Waste of money: sit me up cosy, baby food blender.

RubyFruitSunday · 22/03/2022 19:17

I regret the white noise machine! It turned off after a while and she would wake up. We got on much better with the free videos on YouTube that last 10 hours. Baby food maker also gone unused..

Must have: Muslins in every room, a nappy caddy in every room you spend time in.

devildeepbluesea · 22/03/2022 19:18

Must haves: sling.

Regret: pram. Literally didn’t use it even once. DD went straight from car seat or sling to a buggy.

streamee · 22/03/2022 19:19

I still use mine 4 years later! Where do you keep yours?
DeliaOwens · 22/03/2022 19:32

Best buys: travel cot with removable changing tabletop and bassinet
Worst buys: changing table

The tyranny of the Gro Egg is real! So stressful!
Ducksurprise · 22/03/2022 20:02

Need Pegs. Little people's washing is so small you get need so many.

Waste Nappy bin what was I thinking, total faff.

AuraBora · 22/03/2022 20:11

Must have: Perfect prep machine (this one as you can see is pretty common (formula feeding)

Never used: Muslins - DD was never sick and we just didn't use them. However not a regret as such as we are now using them with DS who is much more sicky!

Regret: Doorway bouncer thing - used it 4 times at most!

How many 0-3 clothes do you think is ideal? Really don't want to overbuy but worry I've not got enough. Was planing on getting more as when needed.

@staycalmmama

Definitely don't go mad, people are bound to buy clothes for your baby as gifts.

Skyeheather · 22/03/2022 20:36

Must have - sleeping bags (much easier than sheets and blankets) and a sling (neither of mine would be put down and it's great for places where you can't take your pram in, at the airport after getting off the plane etc).

Regret buys - Moses basket (neither of mine would go in it), breast pump, steriliser, bottles - I bf on demand and never used any of these items that I bought when I was pregnant "just incase"!

My first baby loved his Jumperoo and went in it all the time giving me free hands to do stuff but my second refused to go in it. My first slept in a cot, my second won't go in it and we've co-slept since birth so I guess some of these things depend on baby's personality!
