Mine had to be a baby double food steamer / blender. Took up so much space when could've used a pan and hand blender!

On to dc3 and realised how much they don't actually need.

What are your regret buys and must haves for baby?

What did you both use instead of a baby bath? We only have a walk on shower and was thinking of getting angelcare bath support.[/quote]

We only have a shower. Baby lies on a towel while one of us showers and then we get down with him and use the rinser to give him a good scoosh. He loves it.

As for baby nests, mine only sleeps in the Done By Deer nest. At 6 months he's fast outgrowing it and I'm sweating!! Confused

Must have mamma roo and perfect prep

Regret a baby sling. I never used it and didn't feel confident to use it

Jonesy88 · 23/03/2022 14:56

Must haves: YouTube on your phone and tv for white noise and sensory videos. Next to me as I like we can see him.

Regrets: bouncer (he hates it - should have tried 2nd hand) and Moses basket (he contact naps in the day mainly and we have the bassinet of the pram as an alternative anyway).

Mama1980 · 23/03/2022 15:15

Best Buy - sling I've had 3 Velcro babies.
Regret - a cot, never used it we Co slept until they were big enough for a bed.

TheChurchOfEli · 23/03/2022 15:28

Sleepyheads / nests etc are not recommended as they break safe sleep guidelines and contribute to SIDS. Please check out the lullaby trust before you go down this route op.

elbea · 23/03/2022 15:41

We couldn’t have lived without the Purflo Sleeptight Baby ‘Bed’ - it is called a bed but is really a nest. It has but has passed British Standard testing for overnight sleep before any one starts!

Regrets -
Spending 500+ on a travel system, thinking I'd keep it for 3 ish years instead of just getting a buggy. But even if I did use it the 3 years, defo wish I'd got one second hand one.

Buying too many outfits/clothes for under 3 months

Must have - a sturdy high chair, a chicco one (polly 2 in 1 I think?) lasted until he was able to sit at the table. Good for a chunky and impatient baby/toddler jumping around in it

Nellle · 23/03/2022 15:57

Must haves: Antilop high chair, travel cot/playpen, small easy-fold pushchair, zip sleepsuits.

Regrets: All the expensive stuff, Snuzpod (travel cot better), massive buggy (unnecessary pain in the arse that barely fit in the car)

This.

A rocking chair: what were we thinking. My Dh pushed for it actually. He claims he used it a lot!
Too many clothes really.
Muslins were useful. As was a towel with the hood in the corner.

Bells3032 · 23/03/2022 17:40

Must haves: white noise machine. She didn't like it first but now is amazing at calming her. We have them everywhere Inc a mini ollie in her pram and car seat. We went for the inovi moses basket which is amazing. Folds down easily for dinners and nights out with family.

We have the maxi coral car seat which has a soft inner seat but which pulls out so much lighter to get in and out and easier to slot into the car which has been amazing.

As for regrets number one is the tommee tippee nappy bin. The refill are so expensive and honestly a regular bin and scented nappy bags do just a good a job and so much cheaper.

We also love our bugaboo fox but it is so massive and unwieldy for small spaces and even in our bigger car needs to be put in a certain way to fit. If I had the time again I'd probably get the chameleon which is the same but a bit smaller.

DappledThings · 23/03/2022 18:25

Must haves:
A good sling. Had a Beko Gemini and used it for 2 babies from 3 months to 3 years. That's a lot of value
Angelcare bath seat. Hated trying to hold baby in the bath or sink.

Pointless
Muslins. Bought a pack of 10. Was given a pack.of 3 giant ones. Hardly used the normal ones and never used the massive ones.
Changing bag. Gave mine away when DC1 was about 8 weeks and I realised a bog standard was much more useful
Travel system. Used the pram/buggy loads but once ever used the adaptors to put the car seat on the buggy frame. Total waste of money.

Lampzade · 23/03/2022 18:30

Fancy expensive pram. It cost £600 and I used it twice.
It is still in the attic

QueenLagertha · 23/03/2022 18:38

Must haves: Muslins, shnuggle baby bath, Morrck car seat blanket, myhummy white noise teddy

Regret buys: spending £500 on travel system. Wish I'd just bought a second hand one as moved to a buggy quite quickly.
Purflo nest- barely used.

Crawfishspots · 23/03/2022 19:07

Best Buy- carrier (connecta and Tula) and baby wearing coat, tuppence and crumble star wrap, all the muslins, antilop high chair

Regrets- expensive pram- 2 pram refusers, expensive mamas and papas high chair with lots of nooks and crannies. Bouncy chair- both hated it!

Laureatus · 23/03/2022 22:35

They really don't need much and a lot of things you can buy once they're here and Dan work out what they might need. We didn't buy much non-essential stuff in advance, and also bought things second hand so it wasn't a big expense if we or baby didn't like them (Snuzpod, Sleepyhead, my 3 slings, Babybjorn bouncer, playpen, all secondhand and all well used by us, saved a fortune).

Absolutely love our Yoyo which we did buy new. One thing that wasn't successful was a cot mobile, he hated it. He hated the white noise machine too. Anything associated with sleep was a fail and in our house!
