Elijar or Zak - for a boy obviously. Am only 10 weeks pg, so early on in the baby naming game. I like both of them, but dont know any Elijar, which I think is a bit more of an unusual name. So think I'm leaning towards that one at the moment.

Your opinions might halp me make a decision tho, so all thoughts greatfully recieved (even if you think they're awful)

Thanx

Isaac and Reuben are on our list for an extremely theoretuical ds3 - but probably won't happen as we already have one ds with an OT name and one with a completely different, Spanish/Germanic one, so it would prob seem odd to give another OT one... but as I said, it's all very theoretical atm

Definitley Elijah...lovely name. Not at all keen on Zak however you spell it.

Agree about dodgy spellings - makes you look illiterate, not different.

meinhiding · 05/01/2008 09:45

I do know the biblical stories. And part of the reason I like Elijah is that he was a strong and couragous servant. Perhaps a little confrontational, but he wasn't afraid to speak out against the majority if he thought they were wrong (this of course didn't always make him popular)

Zechariah - Also was a very good servant, a priest and John the Baptist's father.

I like Ezekiel but my dh prefers the other two.

I would think that Eli would be the shortened name for Elijah.

and didn't he get carried away on a chariot of fire or something? Very OTT. Still prefer Zach.

LynetteScavo · 05/01/2008 10:43

Zachary.

tortoise · 05/01/2008 10:47

Would have to say Zachary because thats my DS2's name!
Shortened to Zach most of the time!
Even with the proper spelling he always gets Zak/Zac on cards! So annoying! (And even my Mum tried to tell me it had no H on the end!)

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 05/01/2008 10:55

gosh do people really think that Zak is an incorrect spelling? For an abbreviation of Issac?

The thing is, I think the Hebrew would be something like Izak (actually it would be ytzak), so I just assumed Zak was correct...

I do need to know this, its one of our likely names for db#3.

Zach just looks wrong somehow, especially short for Isaac...

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 05/01/2008 11:00

I like both, and do know a 2 year old Elijah. Would also prefer Zachary as given name, to then be shortened if you wish.

LynetteScavo · 05/01/2008 11:42

I just love the name Isaac.

Twiglett · 05/01/2008 11:44

please, please don't misspell names ... it's Elijah

I know an Elijah .. it's a lovely name

Zak as in short for Isaac or Zachary / Zachariah ... but not on its own, on its own its a dog's name

I like both (all 4 actually)

moljam · 05/01/2008 11:46

prefer Elijah, lovely name.and i like suggestion of isaac.

Twiglett · 05/01/2008 11:47

now feeling immense satisfaction to be amongst people who accept that spelling a name wrong is just wrong

137wallis · 05/01/2008 11:51

elijah, thats lovely, we have a Jonah, (hope that doesn't mean he'll get into water sports and get eaten by a whale! )

mummylittle · 05/01/2008 13:20

I like Elijah better - its lovely xx

bookwormmum · 05/01/2008 13:23

I like Elijah - Zac has been a bit overused for me. Biblical name are cool .

largevirginbirthandtonic · 05/01/2008 13:24

137Wallis we have a Jonah too Have been told frequently by (old) people the name is unlucky We love it though.

DD is a Serahim, not very angelic though

I personally love Elijah over Zach.

bookwormmum · 05/01/2008 13:26

I thought about calling my then-unborn, no idea of gender, baby, Israel if they were a boy. Might have been tricky to carry that off where I live though (huge Jewish community). My Mum suggested Christian .

bookwormmum · 05/01/2008 13:27

There is a Noah at my dd's school.

fireflyfairy2 · 05/01/2008 13:34

Elijah or Isaac

I think I prefer Elijah

Is Zac short for Isaac or Zachary?

I like all biblical names, my son has one too (Think ark) I do hope he doesn't start rounding the animals up....

bookwormmum · 05/01/2008 13:36

My dd has a Biblical name as well. I think a lot of people do either by derivations or deliberate choice.

LoveAngel · 05/01/2008 14:59

I know a Zach (short for Zachary) and a Zac (short for Isaac). Both 3 yrs old.

Bubbaloo · 05/01/2008 15:03

I like both and ds2 was very nearly Elijah. The main reason we chamged our minds is because I wasn't keen on the shortened version of Eli,whereas Zak,Zack or Zack are all really nice IMO.

Bubbaloo · 05/01/2008 15:04

Zak,Zack or Zach.

janeite · 05/01/2008 15:07

Elijah is lovely; I don't like Zach in any form - don't mess around with spellings; it just looks weird imho.

meinhiding · 05/01/2008 18:28

Wow, thanx for all your responses.

Still not quite sure at the moment, as i do really like both names.

If we choose Zach/Zak/Zack it would be just that as Dh is not keen on Zachery(sp), whereas I love it.

But then dh is also not keen on Eli, whereas he really likes Elijah, my mum suggested Elijah Zach, which could work.
