I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first and im in the process of sorting hospital bags for myself & little one.

Is it recommended to wash the babys clothes before him wearing them for the first time? If yes, is there any specific washing gel that i should use (ie sensitive skin etc)

Thank you

I would personally. Just in case there are some harsh chemicals on them from manufacture. I think the best is Fairy non- bio.
Congratulations.

I washed them all as wanted them clean and to smell nice, and used fairy powder and softener !

NameChangeNymph · 13/02/2022 16:07

I've used Fairy Non-Bio and Comfort on my son's clothes from birth and will be doing the same with this one (I'm also 36 weeks) x

Rua13 · 13/02/2022 16:16

Do wash the clothes.I'd hold off on the softener though in case it irritates its skin.

FayKnights · 13/02/2022 16:16

I remember doing this with all of mine, the oldest is 21 and I still remember the feeling of seeing his little things and the gorgeous smell of fairy 🥰
Congratulations to those expecting!

Kinko · 13/02/2022 16:18

Yes and fairy powder (not pods).

Kinko · 13/02/2022 16:19

I wouldn't, if you absolutely must use softener though - use fairy.

If you have a tumble dryer that usually softens them up.

I’m due on Tuesday. I have washed all baby’s clothes, blankets, muslins, bedding etc with Ecover’s non bio liquid. I checked in their website and it says it’s safe to use on baby’s washing. It’s also not strongly fragranced. I personally can’t stand strong smelling things they give me headaches & migraines.

I never did.

jolota · 13/02/2022 17:11

I wash all my clothes and bedding that I buy before wearing/using so have done the same for the baby.
I just used the same non bio we use in the house & will only buy specific sensitive stuff if the baby has a reaction.

Maverick66 · 13/02/2022 17:20

I would wash
Fairy non bio.
They also make non bio conditioner.
Personally if using a liquid or pod I wouldn't use conditioner.

alexis4theppl · 13/02/2022 17:22

Agree with PP. there's something about seeing the little clothes hanging up and it all feels real and exciting. I did with mine and used fairy non-bio also. I'm sure I added my usual comfort softener also but you can also get the fairy non-bio version. Congratulations 💐

Emsie1987 · 13/02/2022 17:35

I washed all my littles ones clothings before hand and still do now.

However, I have learnt since that fairy non bio isn't the best ones for babies (it's just marketed that way) and Persil non bio is better to prevent skin sensitivity

Moody123 · 13/02/2022 19:09

Don't use powder as if the LO is allergic it takes up to 3 washes to get out (apparently)
Just stick with fairy washing liquid (no conditioner)

I normally use the washing gel so was hoping to use the same, just a different brand if needed.

We wash second hand things in our usual detergent (miele), we haven’t bothered washing things that we buy new and it hasn’t been an issue.

CoastalWave · 13/02/2022 19:39

I personally wouldn't.

Not one thing I bought either of my two fitted them. If I'd have washed them, I'd have wasted all that money! As it was, just took them all back for a refund.

You have no idea how big/small your baby is going to be!

mummyh2016 · 13/02/2022 19:42

I did with DD but looking back (IMO anyway) it's very pfb and nothing I have purchased or received for DS has been washed before he has worn it.

RedRobin100 · 13/02/2022 19:46

Yes I wash all new clothes to wash factory/any chemicals (that may be on there, I dunno if there are..) off them
Just any non-bio

flowervest75 · 13/02/2022 19:46

Don’t people wash new clothes before they wear them? If you do if for yourself then of course you’d do it for a newborn baby who’s skin is super sensitive.

As people have said, fairy non bio is best

RedRobin100 · 13/02/2022 19:47

Would echo what PP said tho about not washing EVERYTHING right away - in case you don’t end up using/want to return or exchange anythjng

womaninatightspot · 13/02/2022 19:48

I didn't and then a new vest brought my pfb out in a rash and so I took to washing everything first.

unfeelingwife · 13/02/2022 19:52

I didn't bother.
