I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first and im in the process of sorting hospital bags for myself & little one.

Is it recommended to wash the babys clothes before him wearing them for the first time? If yes, is there any specific washing gel that i should use (ie sensitive skin etc)

Thank you

I never washed stuff before use, also just used normal washing detergent when I did, all kids been fine, even the two with more sensitive skin :)

I th8nk I used fairy non bio for my first 2. I got a fragrance free non bio one for the third baby though. All mine have had quite sensitive, dry skin. I never use softner. Unnecessary and clogs the machine.

A quick 20min wash is fine with minimal powder. Non-bio is no longer pushed now for babies (unless they are allergic) as bio has the enzymes to remove stains at a lower concentration and temperatures. There is no real difference between brands, so just use your regular powder. You can give the clothes an extra rinse if you are worried.

Always washed everything when new. Some of the factories spray awful chemicals to stop mould growing when in storage or transport. I'm sure there was some found to have formaldehyde on.

I would always use fairy non bio powder or similar, not gel/liquid/tabs.

Also hold off on softener as there skin can be sensitive- also hate when babies smell all perfumed, it ruins the lovely baby smell!

I still wash DD's new clothes before use and she's 2. I always wash her clothes with fairy non bio that's suitable for babies and use fairy softener, that's also suitable for babies

You can add washing clothes nefire wearing to the long list of Things I Did For DC1 Because I Was Vaguely Aware It Had Been Mentioned Somewhere and never considered for for DC2.

The chemicals for transport thing is true so if this bothers you, definitely wash them.

Non bio/baby washing/sensitive washing powders are generally marketing and you can ignore it. Other countries don't even have bio/non bio, it's just all bio and non bio isn't a thing. Nobody seems to have allergies to the enzymes either.

I washed everything too but I also wash my clothes before wearing them. I find things go bobbly much quicker if you don't.

I only ever use bio liquid. And I have extremely sensitive skin. Bio liquid keeps things much whiter.

I didn't, but I think it's a good idea. You don't need to use any special products; just your normal detergent is fine.

I remember buying a special organic baby wash for my first baby and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of washing and preparing them all!! With my second, none of that happened. I don’t think it’s really necessary for it to be a special wash, or even to wash them, but it feels nice as a new mum.
