I have been recommended by my midwife to get a TENS machine for labour. Could anyone recommend a good one (that you have experience of using) please, there's just so many on the market... Thank you in advance!

When are you due?

GuidingSpirit · 12/02/2022 08:39

Buy the cheapest one you can - my labour was so fast that i did not find it to be helpful and was glad i didn't waste too much money. I think mine was Lloyds Pharmacy own brand.

This website babycaretens.com/ was recommended in our classes if you’d rather hire.

DropYourSword · 12/02/2022 10:44

I hired one. Just make sure you get a maternity one so it has a boost button for when you have a contraction. Practice with your birth partner putting the pads on your back before you go into labour, so you know what you're doing when you need to!
Other than that though, just go for the cheapest you can find. I don't think there could be much difference once you have that blessed boost button!

I hired one as well, cost £25 for 7 weeks hire and I didn't even use it! Pains were in my stomach rather than my back plus I had a quick labour. You do need one with a boost button rather than a bog standard one.

@jolota due 29th March and I'm being induced that week.

Thanks all! I'm drug intolerant and being induced - so I'll need to get one regardless and hope it takes at least some of the early labour pains away. I've read some reviews of Boots' own brand one - so I'm wondering about getting that as it's only £39. Maybe I can get it on sale closer to the date.

I got a boots maternity one on ebay for £15 and found it really helpful in fact second labour I managed with 2 paracetamol and the tens machine.

MiracleBaby2022 · 12/02/2022 11:19

@ArtfulScreamer yes that's the one I've been looking at. Think I'll just get that one, it's got great reviews. Wow, that's not a lot of pain relief!!

DS arrived 20 mins after I did at the hospital, the midwife smiled and did a mumsnet tinkly laugh when I asked for an epidural as I climbed on the bed.
Good luck with your birth and lovely squishy newborn.

ArtfulScreamer · 12/02/2022 11:31

I can also recommend an epidural, I had that with DD who wasn't in quite such a rush as DS and ended up as EMCS due to failure to progress but all the many many hours spent failing to progress were made bearable by epidural.

Appleseesaw · 12/02/2022 11:35

I agree with getting one with a boost button and practice with the pads. I found it to be really good and kept it on for the whole labour.

I'm due in about 2 weeks & have the boots maternity one.
My husband did the research & decided on this one - I'll let you know if it works well 😅

HulaHoop31 · 12/02/2022 13:53

Boots maternity one. I used it during labour at home and found it really helped. Baby arrived 30 mins after me getting to hospital Grin, no time for any other pain relief though!
