Hi all iv been reading alot about woman who have had low dose aspirin during their 12 weeks of pregnancy to help prevent preclamceia but also prevent miscarriage from happening? I just wanted to see if there's any stories out there does anyone know much about this has it worked or helped them after miscarriages x

There are some rare, don't give you any trouble normally, blood conditions that are thought to lead to miscarriage. So some obstetricians will prescribe low dose aspirin to those women, although as it's safe a lot of women who've had previous miscarriages take it (because it can take a while to get seen by an obstetrician to get tested).

For me, I was tested and don't have any of the blood conditions so taking aspirin would not have prevented any of my miscarriages. That said there is no harm so it may have made me feel like I was being proactive at a time when everything is out of my control.

Speak to your doctor.

Okay thank you I will.speak to my gp on Friday see what he thinks x

I had clotting screen and APS antibodies tested by my GP after two losses, nothing was found, but decided to take aspirin from next positive test anyway. I'm now 25 weeks, when the first two ended in week 8-10. Now I can't be absolutely sure that it's done anything, but I like to think it might have. Pregnancy is a hypercoagulable state and makes you more prone to blood clots anyway.

Flopsy88 · 02/02/2022 08:18

I took 75mg from ovulation after having one miscarriage. No idea if it helped or not but I'm currently 38wks. I did a lot of reading around it seems like it doesn't do any harm to take it, even if it's not needed. I decided I wasn't going to wait around to potentially have two more miscarriages before being referred for investigations, only to find out they could have been prevented by something so simple

jjunaki100 · 02/02/2022 08:24

Exactly that's my fear iv had a chemical.pregnancy last year in August and just recently a miscarriage at 6 weeks and I'm.just so fearful now.i want to trynagain.but I don't want to have another miscarriage that parronia.is now within me that's why I have been reading on aspirin and wanted advice x

Women who take it to prevent peeeclampsia generally take it from 12weeks to 36weeks and a higher dose (150mg). I had to do this and im pretty convinced it worked because after i came off it, my BP went really high at 38w and DD was born in a bit of a hurry. Still def worth chatting to your GP about it though because i too think the evidence is growing to support its use in preventing miscarriages but might be worth leading with that rather than the preeclampsia if you have had previous losses. Flowers Good luck!

Cakecakecheese · 02/02/2022 08:28

I'm taking aspirin as it was prescribed by my IVF clinic during my treatment and I've been advised to continue. I've had an MMC and a chemical in the past. I'm currently 12 weeks.

Flittingaboutagain · 02/02/2022 08:32

I paid for a consultation to ask about this question and the expert said in my case it would have increased the risk of miscarriage. I wouldn't personally trust a GP with this. Sorry for your losses, I have been there too.

Machina01 · 02/02/2022 08:41

It seems to be fairly standard here in Ireland after miscarriage. 75mg is prescribed from ovulation to increase blood flow which increases chance of implantation. Then it’s taken up to 36 weeks to prevent preeclampsia.

jjunaki100 · 02/02/2022 09:11

@fittingaboutagain how comes they said u were high risk if u don't mind me asking x

I had a daughter and then after her we had 3 miscarriages and then when I fell pregnant after them I spoke to my GP who said taking low dose aspirin had no harm so was up to me, I took it from positive test and now have a healthy 1 year old- am pregnant again and have taken it again and so far I'm 8 weeks, saw heartbeat at 6 weeks......I can't say for certain that's what it was that helped but it made me feel better- I just buy mine from supermarket as cheap, just the 75mg tablets

Machina01 · 02/02/2022 10:57

@jjunaki100

Sure is. Again, it’s common place for this to be prescribed after miscarriage where I’m from. I was on it up to 26 weeks even though my blood tests showed no issues with progesterone levels. My doctor said the name means to support gestation so he left me on it for ages. It’s something you produce naturally so won’t do any harm. It’s taken from 2dpo
inheritancetrack · 02/02/2022 11:00

I had a scan showing notches on both arteries to the placenta. Having had a placental abruption with my first pg it was a concern so I was on aspirin throughout the pregnancy. All went normally

jjunaki100 · 02/02/2022 11:06

Thabk you ladies it honestly feels so good to know I can speak on here and hear these positive stories I will ask on Friday to my gp.if I can take aspirin or progesterone whatever they can give lol il take anything x do u take it soon as u get ur bfp?

OP posts:
Machina01 · 02/02/2022 11:50

Aspirin from 1 dpo as the increased blood flow aids implantation, progesterone from 2 dpo as it plumps up the lining thus aiding implantation and then it supports the pregnancy.

jjunaki100 · 02/02/2022 13:14

Sorry I know this is annoying and I keep going on bur.im just researching after the mc that's all.i seem.to do but now iv read on how good.vitamin b6 is for progesterone and when ttc??

OP posts:
IsabelHerna · 03/02/2022 07:36

Vitamin B6 is important when ttc, it's part of my ivf supplements I take it does increase progesterone, so I think it should do the same after a mc.

jjunaki100 · 03/02/2022 07:52

I had 3 miscarriages and was given aspirin when I got pregnant a 4 th time and started to bleed at 5 weeks . I can't say if it was the aspirin or not but I carried that baby full term with no problems

xXwhenwillitendXx · 03/02/2022 08:05

I had 2 early miscarriages and read about low dose aspirin. The third time I got pregnant I started taking it as soon as I got the positive test. I informed GP who said it was okay to take. A few weeks later I got a call to say there is new evidence to say it may increase chance of miscarriage but it was my decision to carry on ir not. I chose to carry on (was only around 6-7 weeks at this stage). Then at around 12 weeks I started bleeding heavily, went for a scan and it was a subchorionic hematoma (a blood clot outside the sack that's unharmful) I decided then to stop the aspirin as I was over the 3 month mark.
My 18 month old now spends every day driving me up the wall Grin

jjunaki100 · 03/02/2022 09:02

Oh wow they said it can increase miscarriage?? I didn't know that iv only heard good things so far 😫😫😫 tomorrow the gp will ring me so let's see xxx

I lost my first pregnancy at 19 weeks in 2020. I live in Germany and they offered me tests but the tests and the autopsy were in inclusive. However the baby was much too small for the gestational age and my haematologist suggested an issue with blood flow to the placenta. When I became pregnant again my haematologist put me on 150mg aspirin daily from 7 weeks to 35 weeks just in case. My healthy baby boy is sitting opposite me now. I'll never know if it was the aspirin but if I got pregnant again I would definitely start taking it again just in case!

Flittingaboutagain · 03/02/2022 09:22

jjunaki100 I had a higher risk of bleeding, which aspirin can make worse, and therefore increase risk of something going wrong in my case. Hopefully your GP is knowledgeable about it all.

xXwhenwillitendXx · 03/02/2022 10:45

@jjunaki100 she said the risk was very small but she had to inform me. Like PP have said, I can't say for definite it made a difference but the pregnancy with aspirin was the only one successful.
