Hello everyone.

I've been feeling the baby move for months. It's been that active that my abdomen looks really wierd when i'm quiet, moving all over. However, i noticed yesterday it was very quiet and it always wakes up when i'm getting dd to sleep and i still can't feel it.
I feel REALLY heavy at the moment, (like it's pressing right on my bladder).
Am starting to get a bit scared really.
Any tips to get it moving and reasssure me???

i had this quite a bit with ds and scared myself stupid - of course as soon as you notice and start waiting for it to move the more scared you get. If i were you i would ring the labour ward of your hospital (should be on your notes) and speak to someone there - they might ask you to go in or might just give you some advice but will put your mind to rest

Angeliz · 17/11/2004 20:29

thanks zephyrcat, that's what i'm doing, sitting waiting for it to move now

Won't ring just yet as i can't go in, i'm on my own, dp gets back around 11 as he's been working away!

Shower always worked with me. She hated the cold water!!
Actually what worked the best was sex........

KristinaM · 17/11/2004 20:30

Angeliz - Try a sweet snack or a bath/shower - that always got my baby jumping . But then it IS quite early to have so much movement - do you mean you are 36 weeks?

polkadot · 17/11/2004 20:30

Why not just call labour ward and ask them to check you over? They won't mind and always prefer to see people at the first sign of concern because if there is a problem then they are in a better position to sort it out. It's always best to get these things checked out straight away for peace of mind. Please let us know how you get on.

Eating something used to get my dses moving about too. Have you eaten lately?

Do you have an early feotal assessment ward at your nearest hospital? why dont you ring your local delivery suite to ask them for advice re EFAU and movement.
Probably absolutely fine and will completely show you up by starting to kick like buggery the moment you tip up for a bit of monitoring, all the same i would get it checked out by the professionals if it were me.

I too get panicy moments when I think something awful has happened and I've found that kneeling on all 4s, bum in the air often encourages movement, or if all else fails a good poke of my tummy in the bath. Guaranteed to get a response when coupled with a few bangs on the side of the bath itself.

Angeliz · 17/11/2004 20:31

No i'm 26 weeks.
It's a much more active baby than dd was. (It does seem incredibly strong for it's age but two scans have gotten same date).

I'm off to try the wiggling and iced water now!

I used to poke poor ds all the time because i used to get so scared when he wasnt moving - i'm surprised he didnt come out black and blue!! Definately ring the labour ward though. They most likely wont ask you to go in but will tell you to keep an eye on the movements over the next 12 or 24 hours and if there are less than 10 movements you have to ring them back then go in - if anything it will just reassure you to get some professional advice. Best of luck - keep us posted

bunny2 · 17/11/2004 20:35

Yes, cold sugary drinks did it for me too. Also, try a bit of prodding and poking to see if you can get a reaction. But, at 28 weeks I couldnt feel the baby move at all and nothing worked to get it going. By midnight I was in a real panic and rushed off to my local maternity unit. They were only too happy to listen in and reassure me the baby was ok.

mykidsmum · 17/11/2004 20:36

Hi Angeliz I was laways told by my midwife to eat something sugary if worried as often when babe is sleeping this wakes them up, I found it a great excuse to indulge! Hope everything is okay xxxx

WideWebWitch · 17/11/2004 20:39

Have you tried lying on your left side angeliz? Hope all is well and babe's moved, I do remember the feeling of worry when you haven't felt them for a bit.

maomao · 17/11/2004 20:42

Hi Angeliz, hope everything is okay. One of the things my midwife used to recommend was drinking orange or apple juice, as the sugar from the juice would make the baby move a bit.... Please let us know how you're doing!

popsycal · 17/11/2004 20:42

angleiz 0 bump had a phase of feeling heavy and low last week (i am 25 weeks) and movements were more tricky to feel...
hope all is ok

Heathcliffscathy · 17/11/2004 20:43

oh, i had this and was so so upset and frightened...icecream works (cold and sweet) cold water, but get a midwife to have a listen, you'll feel really reassured (i burst into tears i'd been so frightened)...they do go quiet sometimes for ages...xxx

acer · 17/11/2004 20:44

A bath should help, hope everything is ok, sure it will be. xxx

popsycal · 17/11/2004 20:44

;ying still on my back also gets it going...

Angeliz · 17/11/2004 21:47

O.K
I ate half a snickers and ran a bath, still nothing then i lay on my left side and when i righted myself,(still in bath),it kicked alot.

Can't beleive how scared i was there for a while. I haven't stopped all day with dd, nursery-Christmas shopping, Funshack, and then indoors too making up her shoebox for tomorrow. I started to think when was the last time i actually felt it move?
Plus my mam was here last night and i kept commenting on how quiet the baby was!!

Thanks everyone++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

(p.s- is it normal to feel less movement at this time with the baby growing and taking up more room?)
