How to conceal a pregnancy on a theme park holiday when you can't go on rides HELP! :)

Hello!

I have recently discovered I am pregnant - 5-6 weeks. To say it was a shock would be an understatement.

I am due to go on a break, away with my partners family next week and part of the trip is to do a treetop adventure - ziplines and rollercoasters etc. I obviously cannot do anything like this and their website even says pregnant women shouldn't partake. The ticket was a gift from my mother in law for Christmas.

Does anyone have any bright ideas as to how I can get out of this? I will still have to go on the trip (and want to) but I also don't know how to get out of going on any treetop trampolines (fml) without coming across as rude or ungrateful for the gift! I am already having to plan on lying about why I cannot get in the hot tub.

Hundred percent not ready to tell family yet.

Vertigo diagnosis! You are so sad you can’t participate but will enjoy watching them!

Notlostjustexploring · 28/01/2022 22:02

Develop labyrinthitis.

Inner ear infection that isn't painful, you just end up horribly dizzy. Anything involving up trees or roller coasters would be awful and/or downright dangerous.

You'd probably also want to avoid a hot tub with an ear infection.

thefirstmrsrochester · 28/01/2022 22:02

Hurt your back would get you out the aerial activities, the hot tub not so much.

Somerandomgirl · 28/01/2022 22:04

At 5 6 weeks u can probably still do all of that x
But honestly if it was me, even if not pregnant you cant make me go onto attractions 😅😅😅 I'm just afraid, so if u are like this....

gogohm · 28/01/2022 22:05

I went in the hot tub pregnant, everyone did where I lived (pacific northwest) I also went mountain climbing to 14,000 ft at 10 weeks pregnant so I'm not the best to askGrin

Winniemarysarah · 28/01/2022 22:06

I don’t think it makes any difference at only 6 weeks pregnant. I’d still go on everything

JustWonderingIfYou · 28/01/2022 22:15

I don't think you need to avoid any of that. I've definitely been on rollercoasters when pregnant. And I'm pretty sure avoiding hot tubs is really outdated advice.

Great idea! Thank you so much for taking the time x

I did think this, and I usually have a pretty gungho attitude but I am just a bit nervous at the moment/bamboozled by everything. But thank you for inspiring me to get over it! :)

At 6 weeks I wouldnt worry at all. If it was that easy to cause a problem then we wouldnt have had to fight for abortion rights.

This is a very good shout! Thank you very much for taking the time, I honestly couldn't think of a single idea and this one seems obvious now :) thanks again

Thank you for the reply, I know I am probably being oversensitive and anxious. I feel better just knowing I have a couple of decent lies now!

Grab a bandage and invent a sprained ankle, a little limp and jobs a good un, if you develop morning sickness you might have to blame the painkillers!

Hdhr8jsj · 28/01/2022 22:22

Honestly, you can do all that stuff so early on in a pregnancy.

NewtoHolland · 28/01/2022 22:27

Covid!
Or a Tubi grip on your wrist...sprained it you see.

BreadInCaptivity · 28/01/2022 22:35

As pp's have said, you can do these things (and I certainly did) but it's also your right not to do them if the idea makes you uncomfortable.

Personally I'd go with an ear infection as a pp suggested.

Ticks all the boxes re: an explanation why you can't do activities and as a bonus you can also say you can't drink as are on antibiotics.

Lou98 · 28/01/2022 22:40

I would also go with inner ear infection. I've had recurrent ear infections since I was young and also have vertigo, the dizziness is enough to stop me doing anything like that (and I used to love rollercoasters!)

Although, if I was away with someone who was avoiding the hot tub and rollercoasters etc, I would assume that they might be pregnant. Are you sure she won't have an inclination? I think if I really didn't want them to know I'd try find a reason to postpone or cancel just in case

Hugasauras · 28/01/2022 22:44

I went on a tractor pod ride with DD when I was about 6 weeks. We were thrown all over the place, over really hard bumps on the ground, etc. I did think briefly at the time 'Hmm maybe I should have let DH do this one!' (although no way he would have fitted in the ride!) Grin

Anyway aside from a sore arse, all was well.

I wouldn't do rollercoasters as I hate them but I would happily do a zip line or treetop/trampoline stuff I think.

I think most excuses for this stuff are pretty well-known now so I wouldn't be surprised if they did suspect, but hopefully they aren't the kind to ask outright! I've never met anyone who 'can't drink due to antibiotics' who wasn't actually pregnant; it's almost a code phrase for it Grin

Meowwwwwww · 28/01/2022 22:45

I did stuff like that and more in the early stages of my pregnancies. The baby is probably the size of a grain of rice at the point abs has plenty of protection.

Onedaylikethi5 · 28/01/2022 22:52

I think you might be overthinking the hot tub at this very early stage.

SparkleSpangle · 28/01/2022 22:54

Personally I would still do the things.

If you want to get out of it I would go with "oh no, I don't do things like that, I'm a bit rubbish really. But you go and enjoy yourselves. I'll take pictures of you doing it. Then everyone is happy"

Then they can argue without literally saying you should be unhappy and do it anyway.

00100001 · 28/01/2022 22:57

You and your tiny grain of rice will be absolutely fine to do things like zip wires.

When they say "pregnant" they mean obviously pregnant. things like harnesses won't fit safely etc it's a bit like flying, it's fine until your third trimester etc.

Go and have fun.

annlee3817 · 28/01/2022 23:02

If you are one of the unfortunate ones to get nausea or sickness from around 6 weeks onwards, you're not going to be wanting to go on rides etc no matter how safe it is at this stage. I didn't get any sickness in my first pregnancy so could have probably managed, but this time it hit me like a tonne of bricks from 6 weeks, so be prepared for that possibility.

CorpusCallosum · 28/01/2022 23:17

Came to say labrynthitis. Can have nausea/sickness too so it's the perfect cover!

In case you need a nice bit of detail to pad the lie: when I had it for real I was given tablets which had to be placed between your upper lip and gum so they dissolved slowly. Only needed it for a couple of days so I hope it's a short trip!

Congrats and good luck 😉
