For a girl? It's traditionally a scottish name which we both like. Your opinions please!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 23/12/2007 13:19

i jsut think of Tony.

wheresthehamster · 23/12/2007 13:20

But then I have an Essex accent. Ignore me

oxocube · 23/12/2007 13:21

no! sorry!

tillykins · 23/12/2007 13:21

no, I don't like it
makes me think of the Blair witch

JackieNoel · 23/12/2007 13:22

Sorry - don't like it either - made me think of Tony Blair, followed closely by the Blair Witch Project.

Scotia · 23/12/2007 13:23

I like it for a boy or a girl. I've not seen is spelled with an 'e' on the end before.

FlllightAttendant · 23/12/2007 13:24

I prefer Blaise. That's not very helpful though.

FlllightAttendant · 23/12/2007 13:26

It is a bit unusual, we are not accustomed to it, I think that's why so many people are saying no.
It does sound a bit like what I would say if my four year old blew his nose and then gave me the tissue. But honestly, there's no reason why it shouldn't be a lovely name!

finallypregnant · 23/12/2007 13:27

you guys are funny!

We are Scottish so I suppose it sounds different here than say someone from darn sarf would say!

OP posts:
cece · 23/12/2007 13:28

Not sure I like it. Made me think of someone trying to be 'different' as never heard of it before. Also thought it would be for a boy before I clicked on the link.

FlllightAttendant · 23/12/2007 13:29

Handled with equanimity, Finallypregnant, I am so sorry for being so rude!!

finallypregnant · 23/12/2007 13:29

I think most people will automatically think boys name. It's the same with the name Kyle which we like for a boy - it's actually a girls name!

festivecircus · 23/12/2007 13:30

Reminds me of Ian and Tony, sadly. By the time she's a bit older though they may no longer be on the news radar though.

finallypregnant · 23/12/2007 13:30

Not at all - you guys have actually cheered me up with your comments. No ofence or upset caused.

i thought it would be a girl's name but it did make me think why would anyone name their child after tony blair.

SpawnChorus · 23/12/2007 13:36

Ditto what festivecircus says.

How about the name Blythe?

turquoise · 23/12/2007 13:37

I've never heard it for a girl. Know one or two men named Blair (I believe there's a mner whose dh is called this - flicking through my stalker rolodex ).

Actually I rather like Blaire for a girl. Yes!

turquoise · 23/12/2007 13:38

Loooove Blythe.

finallypregnant · 23/12/2007 13:38

yay! thank you turquoise!

awful

Tony, Ian, not such great role models.

Scotia · 23/12/2007 14:32

finallypregnant, you missed me!

I also like Aiden for a girl, but can never remember if it's an 'e' or an 'a' in the girl's version. My all time favoutite though is Mhairi (pronounced Vari) but the poor thing would spend her whole life saying, 'it's not Mari, it's Vari', lol!

beeper · 23/12/2007 16:15

Sorry I think its awful.
