Due next May and am completely out of the loop when it comes to the best pushchair/prams. I'm not someone who wants a fancy brand to impress others but it does need to be reliable, sturdy and easy to fold. Would quite like one that can change from a pram to a pushchair. Won't be doing any crazy terrain, just pavement walks!

Would be really grateful for some good recommendations please.

I had this problem. I looked and looked and settle on a Joie DLX from baby birds. It seemed more reasonable price wise and had amazing reviews online. Hopefully I haven't made a huge mistake lol. My baby is due may so some time before I can try it.

chipsandfish34 · 03/01/2022 18:49

I've seen that one too. I'm quite intrigued in the bundle that includes the pram but also travel cot, high chair and rocking chair. The price is amazing for all that but I wondered if it might be too good to be true! That's basically what I'm looking for in a pram/buggy though so maybe worth the risk especially if it has good reviews....

Prams are all designed differently so the pram our friends bought wasn't suitable for us.

Whether you live in a city/country, you're tall/small, use public/private transport, live in a flat/house all will affect which pram is suitable for you. We could all list the usual pram brands (Silvercross, Mamas and papas, Egg etc) but you won't know which one is comfortable or suitable for your specific needs until you go and test drive them.

Uppababy Cruz V2 - I have it, ticks all of your boxes. Would recommend. You can buy a carrycot or a newborn insert for it these days and then use as stroller.

chipsandfish34 · 03/01/2022 18:56

Unfortunately there are very few shops local to me where you can see a pram in the flesh. I suspect we will have to order online. I've taken a lot of these factors into account and mentioned we won't be tackling any harsh terrain. Also needs to be foldable to get in the car boot. We live in a house so no steps as such.

I like the Ickle bubba pram. But couldn't buy one with that name. 😂 watching this thread with interest !

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 19:19

Like @PurplePansy05 I’ve just ordered the Uppababy Cruz V2. It ticks all the boxes for us (and it looks good too!).

APurpleSquirrel · 03/01/2022 19:22

We have a Cosatto Giggle Travel System - got it for DD (now 7) & used it for both her & DS (now 3). It's still going strong, 3-wheel drive, so easy to manoeuvre with one hand; collapses easily & fits in our car boot. Our one can have a car seat/pram/pushchair attached to the frame & I believe the newer versions can too. We've used it on pavements, grass, sand & off-road & whilst it might not be intended for them it has still coped. It's definitely looking well-used now but it's nearly 8 years old & has been through 2 kids. I'd recommend Cosatto.

Sleepy86 · 03/01/2022 19:24

I’ve got the Mamas & Papas Ocarro. Used it for 3 years with my DD and going to be using it again with my next baby. It’s a travel system, but in pushchair mode it folds compactly in one piece. It’s also lie flat, so the pushchair can be used from birth if you preferred that to the pram

Lou98 · 03/01/2022 19:37

We have the Babystyle Prestige Nimbus. We love it, we chose it as it felt nice to push and easy to fold when we went in to the shop and my DP chose it based on the brown leather handle 🙄😂

Although I will say, I had been looking at a couple of prams online and was planning on buying one but we happened to pass a baby shop one day so went in and I'm so glad I did as I really didn't like the one I was going to buy, it wasn't cheap either so would have been a huge waste of money - it didn't fold nice at all and I found it stuff to push and quite narrow.
I know you've said there's not many about but it really would be worth a drive to a baby shop even if it is a bit longer if you would be able to. You could still order online but I was definitely glad I tried some out in person

JustLikeJasper · 03/01/2022 19:57

Ickle Bubba Stomp definitely

ohidoliketobe · 03/01/2022 20:05

I had uppababy vista for dc 1 and 2, it was big, bulky but very sturdy and durable. Basket on it was huge (impossibly huge!) and the child sits at a really nice high position. However it was well past its best and I couldn't find all the bassinet parts (or spares online) when I fell pregnant with dc#3.

We ended up getting an ikkle bubba stomp v3 travel system package (including car seat and isofix base) with a highchair, bouncy chair and a few other bits from either Kiddie Kingdom or onlinebaby4u for about £600. Apart from the brand name being nauseating it's honestly a brilliant pram at a super price. DC is 9 months now so we've used the baby bassinet and the pram section, it's used daily both walking from the house and further afield out and about in the car, no issues whatsoever. Really recommend it.

silverpinecones · 03/01/2022 20:17

I have been through a few buggies as seem to find differen pros and cons to each one but my current fave (which suits your criteria) is the mamas and papas flip xt2 (but I think there is a newer one out) as it's decent and sturdy when in use with a good sized basket but also folds flat for naps and folds down in one for the car boot so it is much more compact than others I've tried or seen, where you have to take them apart to fold them down. It means I probably won't bother moving to an umbrella fold one when she gets older as this doesn't take up much boot space at all but no compromises on comfort

mrscotton · 03/01/2022 20:38

I have just had the same problem as im due beginning of March. I went to a Mama & Papas and ended up getting their Ocarro range in grey 😍 it is a 9 piece set so comes with car seat, isofix base, carry cot & seat for baby once old enough to sit up on their own. They said it will cover until little one is 4 years old. The car seat will also recline whilst on the pram frame so they are more led down instead of being hunched in the seat.
We paid slightly more as we got an isofix base that swivels so you can get baby out facing you instead of always having it facing backwards (you cannot turn it forward facing and has indicators so you know its locked into place properly). Folds up really easily, quite small & the frame is very light. We ordered ours last Tuesday and being delivered tomorrow.

Would be really grateful for some good recommendations please.

go to a large boots and push a few pushchairs, prams round the shop so you get a feel for them.

then do the same in JL

decide which one you like and look on market place for a second hand pram in good condition.

Then take it to a place to get professional cleaning for £100

you'll still be £400-500 did up

Notasyoungasiwas · 03/01/2022 20:55

My daughter uses a ABC Design Salsa. She bought a set that included the pram, pushchair, isofix car seat etc. it's a beautiful pram and very practical with excellent suspension

PurplePansy05 · 03/01/2022 21:40

Yes, M&P Flip is also a very good recommendation, I was between Cruz and Flip and they were really close. However, bigger basket on Cruz was a winner for me and I'm happy with my choice. It honestly fits in the narrowest of hallways and the smallest of car boots. It's great. The carrycot is suitable for overnight sleep too and you can buy a clip in stand for it. Ask yourself how much storage you have, what size doorway/hallway and where you are planning for your baby to sleep day and night and 'park' him or her during the day. Also the size of your car boot. Then compare the features of each pram.

PurplePansy05 · 03/01/2022 21:45

Also...yes to second hand, but if you're thinking about having more than one DC this might not be helpful if the pram doesn't last or a particular model/version is no longer manufactured, you might struggle to replace parts etc. And another thought is that if you are thinking about more than one DC you might want to look at prams that will accommodate this depending on the age gap (just a thought, obviously you might not be thinking this far ahead now).

HopefulRose · 03/01/2022 23:45

@chipsandfish34 I don’t know where you’re based but Natural Baby Shower has a showroom in Surrey and the staff were really helpful. Me and my clueless DH spent ages in there choosing a pram and got to test them out outside too.

LilacSloth · 04/01/2022 06:17

Would also recommend Cosatto. We have the Wow travel system and it has been used most days for the past 3 and a half years for 2 DCs and still looks good and functions well. It has an extendable handle which is great as I'm short and DH is tall and it currently works well with a buggy board attached too. All cosatto products are guaranteed for 4 years but despite an incident with a pond (no DC inside) haven't needed to use but like the reassurance. Grin

Honestly go into a JL or mamas and papas.

I knew in my cockles uppababy vista or egg was The One!
In reality I wasn't keen for various practical reasons and discounted both. Ultimately i went for a nuna demi but loved nuna mixx...

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots to research now!

Does anyone have any experience with the website online 4 baby? This keeps coming up and is one of the sites that offers these great value bundles? The discounts and pricing seem really good, just wondering if it's all legit.

We got a Bugaboo Fox second hand off eBay. I know I know, I was adamant I was not getting a flashy stupid name buggy until I tried one in JL and that was that. Best decision I ever made especially as Bugaboos hold their value so shall be popping ours back on eBay when we're done with it. We bought new wheels for ours as the ones it came with were well used but other than that it was in really good condition so I'd really suggest having a look on eBay.

Ive used online 4 baby loads of times with no issues at all

My sister has an Oyster travel system which is brilliant, ticks all your boxes and is easy to push.

M&P Flip does do what you want but I find the Oyster easier to push.
