Hello,

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and going to Tenerife tomorrow for 2 weeks (honeymoon)! I'm a little anxious about going, but midwife has reassured me it's safe to travel pregnant. Has anybody else flown when pregnant? How did you get on? Any advice to help my nerves?

Thank you! X

Congrats OP, enjoy your honeymoon, we went to a similar destination when I was 5mths pregnant, we had a lovely time.

Hi,

I’m 24 weeks and flew to Ireland last week and I felt the same. The flight was only short but I was stressing about if it was safe and I spoke to my friend who flew to New York when 30 weeks and she was all good.

Enjoy your honeymoon 🥰

Just check that your travel insurance will cover you if necessary.

Minorissue · 30/12/2021 21:25

Travelled for business and pleasure all throughout pregnancies - no issues. Enjoy your trip!

Totalwasteofpaper · 30/12/2021 21:26

Yep we went on babymoon to tenerife at about 22 weeks.

All fine and had a great time - enjoy!!!

I went to the south of Italy when 5 months pregnant. Had a great time even if it was very sad not to be able to drink all the lovely wine. Enjoy your honeymoon!

wineandchocolateforthewin · 30/12/2021 21:48

Yep i flew to the Seychelles at about 4.5 months pregnant, had a bit a nausea during the flights but was fine otherwise.

Yes, to Cuba at 9 weeks, back home again at 11 weeks, and then at least 4 short haul trips to Brussels and Geneva (at least 8 flights of between 1.5 and 3.5 hours) between 14 and 32 weeks.

The only issue was as we took off on my last flight at 32+3, I burst into tears as we left the tarmac - which was a combination of realising this would be my last work trip like this, tiredness (it had been a 10 day trip to both Brussels and Geneva with a very heavy workload in both places including a few evening events), and hormones. Poor man sitting beside me was horrified (as I was usually totally professional in front of him) but I had mopped up in plenty of time to get a cup of tea from the trolley once it came around.

And I used to ask for an aisle seat rather than my preferred window seat as I got larger, for more comfort and easier access to the loos.

We went to Florida on a theme park holiday when I was 15 weeks. All was fine. My main frustration was not being allowed on some of the rides! Grin

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 30/12/2021 22:01

Did same both times- was lovely. Shallow but you can wear a bikini and not hold in your stomach so that’s an added bonus (although canaries won’t be that hot)

20viona · 30/12/2021 22:03

I burnt myself in lanzarote in 22 degree heat which never happens to me. I was 21 weeks pregnant. Be careful!

Pinkstegosaurus · 30/12/2021 22:06

We went to a Greek island when I was 26 weeks with DD1 and it was a wonderful break! No problems whatsoever! If it puts your mind at rest my in-laws visit Tenerife regularly and have said the healthcare over there is fab.

eurochick · 30/12/2021 22:17

I flew all over the place, short and long haul for work, and to the Maldives for pleasure - the latter at about 5 months. The worst bit was having to rest my tray table on my bump...

rooarsome · 30/12/2021 22:19

I went on my honeymoon at 24 weeks (flew to Florida, few days there then onto a Caribbean cruise) and was absolutely fine. Enjoy and congratulations!

Tay17 · 30/12/2021 22:21

I had a mini holiday at 8 months. It was brilliant. Have a lovely time!

CuriousBogInTheNight · 30/12/2021 22:25

What's the plan if you catch covid while abroad? Do you have very good insurance?

onedayoranother · 30/12/2021 22:28

I went to Spain at six months with undiagnosed diabetes. I was fine. Baby was fine. Enjoy it.

11GrumpsaGrumping · 30/12/2021 22:29

I went to India pregnant- all fine!!

fucketyfuckwit · 30/12/2021 22:30

Are you triple vaxxed?

redandwhite1 · 30/12/2021 23:11

With my first I went at 16 and 26 weeks

Currently 31 weeks and went at 12 and 16 weeks with this pregnancy

Enjoy!! It's the last time for a while!!!

It might be safe to travel when pregnant but you really, really need adequate insurance. And a Plan B if you get covid.
Im not sure if all the replies are from people who travelled during the pandemic (I can see by the timelines that some did).
Have provided assistance to many people who thought nothing would happen to them whilst in holiday - it usually doesn't but do be prepared so you can relax and enjoy your honeymoon.
Look at the FCDO advice, follow local guidance, bring your maternity notes or an outline of the main bits and any medication you're taking. Take out insurance that will cover your pregnancy and covid (as well as the usual stuff).

This. Also worth noting that it's important to check that your policy would cover medical treatment for the baby if delivered early, not just yourself (not all policies do!). Probably not applicable in this case as the pregnancy wouldn't be viable until the very tail end of your holiday at most, but useful to note if others read this and are travelling at 24+ weeks.
Skybooks · 31/12/2021 04:56

Are you concerned about travel or covid, travelling pregnant had always been very common I flew about with ds1. Traveling with covid procedures and risks is very different, check travel insurances covers you and baby and extended stay if you test positive whilst there.

Itstime1 · 31/12/2021 07:29

I flew to Egypt a few weeks ago, 21/22 weeks pregnant with an IVF pregnancy. Double jabbed and I didn’t have any issues at all. Felt safe travelling and safe over there.

Have also flown back and forth to Ireland for family trips. Only stopped now due to Christmas/restrictions.

Enjoy your trip, the time to relax is amazing.

If you have good travel insurance (we have very good annual travel insurance even during the pandemic) then you don’t actually need to tell them. It’s not a pre existing condition!

The only thing we did was scan all of maternity notes so we had them on our phone/online in an emergency, plus my husband knew where the nearest hospital was (but he does panic and like to plan!)
