Going on holiday pregnant...?

Hello,

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and going to Tenerife tomorrow for 2 weeks (honeymoon)! I'm a little anxious about going, but midwife has reassured me it's safe to travel pregnant. Has anybody else flown when pregnant? How did you get on? Any advice to help my nerves?

Thank you! X

Flew to west coast Canada at 5 months for a 3 week holiday. Was up at the toilet a lot and had ds age 18 months on my knee for a good part of it (sharing with dh, dd1 had her own seat thank goodness!). Wore compression socks and did the foot exercises but no bother really.

Reading a previous pp I will add that my experience was pre covid. We have flown since (not pregnant) but I think I would still travel pregnant now however I would make sure I have good cover travel insurance etc.

This pregnancy I have flown about haul to Europe for 4 return trips and one long haul trip (12 hour flight) for my delayed honeymoon with no issues. Flying is perfectly safe, only issues is if you're an extremely regular flyer and in the air multiple times a week (i.e. pilot or hostess). Just stay hydrated and remember to keep circulation going!

I traveled over and back to Ireland a coupe of times as well as to Croatia at 28 weeks. Baby is 12 weeks now so it was all during covid. Never had any issues flying apart from suffering from restless legs so I made sure to have an aisle seat so I could get up and walk whenever I needed.
Like others have said, make sure you have good travel insurance and check where your nearest hospital will be.

Yes @ffscovid I should have added that insurance needs to cover any babies born abroad too for any others thinking of travelling.
People also underestimate the absolute bureaucratic nightmare it can be (depending on where you're visiting) trying to register a baby born abroad and getting a passport to return home. It can be very stressful. Obviously it's rare but it does happen and the closer to due date someone travels then it's worth bearing in mind.

I was one of those women it happened to, had my 1st ds at 28 weeks in Italy. It was not a nice experience. All I will say is make sure your insurance covers you and anything preg related. Also look where the hospital is, just incase the last thing you want to be doing when needed is trying to google where to go, also take ur hospital notes with you

I realise I was just very unlucky and plenty of women travel all the time with no problems

Thank you for everyone's responses. We're here now and I'm so glad we came. Feels really nice to just relax and take some time away from the stress. I was concerned about Covid - but the flight was pretty empty so that relaxed me a bit! We have good insurance but fingers crossed we won't need to use that :) x
