Is naming our dd Delilah a form of abuse?

Everyone hates it except me and my dh, she can be called Della of Lilah for short, we love it... what are your thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

i like it. if you like it go with it x x x x

My friend called her DD olympia, (which would shorten to limpy???)
It doesn't matter what you call your child someone will not like it, I called my youngest Henry which my mother hates and believe me she does not hold back!

We named our daughter Delilah Rose and everyone seems to love it (although older relatives took a while to get used to it). I love it- but yes, you (and she) have to get used to the songs being sung at you!!

do you know the meaning of dalilah in arabic, is the spoilt child, not in the bad way, likt the favorite child, i live it, its most knowen in arab countries.

sod them

we went for a name that everyone laughed at when we mentioned it (including me). Thankfully didn't tell the ILs until she was already named Grin

However everyone likes her shortened name and a lot of people think it's cool to have a more quirky name.

meditrina · 29/03/2011 22:34

It's not a name I'd go for, but I do know one little Delilah - she's about 5. I don't think it's been a problem.

I think the song by the Plain White T's has made it famous for a new generation and really sweet sounding:

I think this is the song her peer group will relate her name to, and it really is lovely Smile

I know a Delilah and Tom Jones never comes into my head. It's a great name and will suit her at any age.

Hersetta · 30/03/2011 09:01

I quite like it but we have a Guinea pig called Delilah so maybe I'm biased.

We call her Dilly but our 3yr old DD calls her Lilah and she is her favourite GP out of 6.

Delilah is great - go for it!
Reminds me of Tom Jones of course, but also the PJ Harvey song Hair - both great songs!
