Labour??

Hello. Last night I started to get what I thought were contractions, but not too regular. Went to bed and woke up with them a few times in the night. Earlier today I starting getting them every half an hour and was also being sick. However, they have now stopped! Havn't had one since about 4pm! Was really hoping that this was it so I can have baby by christmas! Don't want to have her christmas day either! I am due on sunday.

I have also felt quite restless if that means anything, although I have been a bit like this for weeks. I also have worse back ache today.

Have planned a home birth so should really go and tidy my house just incase but can't be bothered! Thats also odd, as I have been having a "nesting instint" the last few weeks and haven't stopped cleaning!

Have got everything perfect for baby now though. Have everything I need etc (other than the baby!) Have also finally decided on a name.

My husband thinks alot of it is in my head, as my friend had her baby yesterday morning and we had always been due the same sort of time and both wanted to be first!

Any advice?

Go for a long walk (or up and down stairs if you can't face the cold). Sounds like niggly beginning pains to me, I had them three days running after a sweep when waiting for ds and they finally got going after long walks every day.
Hope this is it for you and you can be home with lovely new snuggly baby on Christmas morning

callmeoverchristmas · 20/12/2007 20:41

It could be very early Labour, if you slept through contractions it was not true Labour. However I would get the House ready if I were you! I was sick too and had the same as you for hours before things really kicked off, but when it did it did IYKWIM!

Have a good meal tonight just incase things get going during the night, you WILL need the energy.

Good Luck I will keep an eye out for you - nice to meet you BTW
(I am v envious of your homebirth )

my only advice is don't get your hopes up! sorry to be a bit negative. I was due last saturday and have been feeling that xmas is a huge deadline looming and am getting my hopes up at the slightest twinge, but nothing definite yet! I'm sure it's all in the offing for both of us but could be days away yet. Having said that your signs seem more definite than mine, I haven't had a proper contraction yet. This is my second, with DS1 I had several days of prelabour which sounds a similar to you.
Waiting is my worst thing in the world anyway so this is really testing my patience!
good luck!!

chloemegjess · 20/12/2007 20:48

I am off for a walk in a min with my husband. Not sure how long it will be as he is shattered from working long hours. Can go for a longer walk tomorrow on my own when it is daylight (not that it's light for long).

My house is ready for the birth in terms of having everything set out (I have bought a birthing pool and its all set up, ready to be filled), have old towels at the ready etc. Its just that it could do with a hoover and a quick tidy up. Although if the worse come to the worst, my husband can do it as he won't have to go into work if I am in labour!

My husband will be getting up at 4.30am for work, so ideally would like to know by then if its labour or not! He works in central london and it takes him nearly 2 hours to get to or from work!

I which there was a test you could do at home to tell you if its labour or not! lol.

I had to lol at an NCT class when the husband of one woman asked if he would be able to see how many centimetres she was dilating!!! Can you imagine?
Long walk for me was 30 mins btw, I was soooooooooo huge and knackered

whomovedmychocolate · 20/12/2007 20:52

Try watching funny movies or do anything that makes you laugh - pillow fights etc. if you can get your oxytocin flowing, if it is early labour, it'll help get it established. Sex is also a good plan or orgasm achieved any which way you like really.

But above all, don't stress it, it's the baby's birth not yours and he or she will come when good and ready.

BTW there is a test to see whether you are in labour, take your knickers off, sit down on the floor with your legs outstretched, look up your fanjo, do you see a head? This is normally a very good indication that you are truly in labour

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 20/12/2007 20:54

Hey there - glad I stumbled across this, as I've been getting twinges too.
Very useful info here - especially from WMMC

MrsRecycle · 21/12/2007 10:11

Oh - how exciting chloe! Any more news yet??

Actually, I've just remembered I have this "habit" of bringing on labour when I talk to people. I was "talking" to my friend last Thursday morning and she said she had a show and, voila, the baby was born that night! I spoke to another friend one morning and she had the baby that evening as well. I hope my spell has worked on you chloemegjess!

MarsyChristmas · 21/12/2007 10:23

Sort your photo album. Clear out stuff that you no longer need. Keep busy!

I have a feeling that you're holding your baby already though!

MrsRecycle · 21/12/2007 10:29

I think she has Marsy - been trying to email her but no joy!!

Maybe I should offer my services as a "labour bringer-on" lol!

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 13:43

No, I am still here! Everything seems to have stopped now!

Really hoping it wasn't a false alarm! Especially as my husband went into work today, and found out he doesn't need to work after today till new year as he had holiday that needed to be used my the end of dec. Would be really hand as he is not entitled to paternity leave!

Sorry I didnt update the thread, was up till 5am as couldn't sleep, then went to bed when my husband went to work and slept till 11am! Getting used to being up all night now!

Want to try and get things moving, have eaten a pineapple for breakfast but to be honest, I think thats something that unless you eat 10 pineapples in one go, I don't think it does much good!

I want my baby!

oh chloemeg, I remember the sleepless nights like it was yesterday. The body has a strange way of preparing you for the sleepless nights when the baby arrives doesn't it?

Ok so maybe I don't have the magic touch then...But both my friends had theirs on their actual due dates so it could be Sunday!

MrsRecycle - you can try it on me - I'm due Sunday!

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 14:08

I have litterally eaten a pineapple a day since 37weeks! lol. Its crazy the things we do! I have an extreme fear of needles so my worst nightmare is having to be induced. Have done everything I can to get this labour started but nothing seems to work!

Thought the train ride into london the other day might have done the trick!

Will keep this updated if anything happens! Will welcome any labour - inducing vibes!!!!

Have you tried the hubby sweep
IKWYM about pineapple - if I see another pineapple again it'll be too soon!

BTw do contractions feel like very bad tumnmy ache, but low down (just above pubic bone). That's what I keep getting. It increases in intensity then fades off again. Very irregular though.

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 15:33

Yes, I forgot to answer that question about the "hubby sweep" - I like that term, I have never heard that before! To be honest, we have been active anyway and usually do it about twice a week. We did it last night to try and speed things up! Didn't work! When we went to our parentcraft class, the midwife said to be effective, you would have to have sex at least every 4 hours!!!! Don't think we will be doing that much!

Have been using clary sage oil in my bath, which is meant to encourage labour - has anybody else tried this? It did seem to make my contractions stronger yesterday, just a shame they didn't stay!
